The location was fantastic but there were a few holes in the screens - causing there to be a little too many bugs in the house - and the host was unresponsive during our stay. Overall, we had a good time, would recommend but maybe be ready for lots of mosquitos.

Jungle House
Jungle house was awesome! Rustic, but everything you could need. Hot water, outdoor shower, bathtub, full kitchen, and comfy beds. There was a small mixup with our arrival but kelley was super helpful and had everything sorted out in short order. Would totally recommend!

Jungle House
Awesome location! We loved the neighborhood and surroundings. The yard was amazing and provided us with fruit for breakfast during our stay. Yes, there are mainly screens instead of windows but it adds to the experience of the jungle. Perfect mix of camping and a house!

Very special place seconds from the famous Red Road. The house was gorgeous and reminded me of Maine cabins- we spent most of our time in the master bedroom because of the amazing light and breeze up there. The house could use a little TLC (screens, kitchen area). The bathtub and outdoor shower were lovely to use during our stay, but be mindful in the night because the water heater is loud. Really enjoyed the eclectic book collection as well. Thank you for a unique and memorable stay!

Great getaway with a beautiful lanai, hot outdoor shower or indoor bath. Kitchen was supplied with drinking water through a filter system and solar system kept the lights going no problem. Short walk to see the coastline and some big surf. Had great scenic drives from there to get to a wonderful beach and to Pahoa for anything you need. Took advantage of coconuts, star fruit and citrus fruit from trees in the yard. Had lots of rain while we stayed there, but enjoyed lots of sun too. Took some getting used to the jungle noises at night, but cool to see geckos on the walls. Didn't need to open any of the real windows as the temp was great with all the screens. Many of the screens could use some repair, but we kept our food in a closed bin or in the fridge to keep small critters out. Overall it was very comfortable and we would stay there again.

The good:
The jungle house was nice and we felt like we were in nature. The lack of windows (mosquito nets instead) gave the place a breezy feel and the nearby beach is beautiful and rugged.
The bad:
The solar and batteries at the jungle house were not sufficient. Even after a sunny day, we would come home at 9pm and turn on a few lights and power would run out. So we figured out how to start the generator, but the sound of a generator really removes the feeling of being in the jungle.
If only the internet(no coverage, so we needed the wifi) and a few battery powered lamps would last all night, we would be fine, but instead we had to start up the generator every night and every morning.

Jungle House
The Jungle House exceeded our expectations. Definitely a major highlight of a magical trip to the big island. The house was clean, spacious, and airy. We loved listening to the sounds of the jungle as we fell asleep and walking to the nearby beach to watch the sunrise. The outdoor shower was amazing, and the kitchen was well equipt. We loved swimming with spinner dolphins in the distance at Kehana beach and going to Uncle Roberts for the Wednesday night market. We will definitely be back!

We had such an amazing experience at the jungle house! The screened windows allow you to experience all of the wonderful jungle sounds (birds, frogs, etc) while being fully protected from the bugs. The property itself is very well kept with a nice, secluded lawn and play area for the kiddos. There are a ton of fruit trees and we were able to grab some bananas to add to our breakfast. We especially loved hanging out on the porch with our morning coffee or afternoon beer! I would highly recommend staying here!!
About the house - very clean and well kept. There is one very large bedroom up some rather steep stairs (not a problem for us but be mindful with kiddos or adults that might have difficulty with this. Downstairs is the kitchen, living room, one small bedroom with a single bed and an additional bedroom with a queen sized bed and little patio. The porch is off the living room and has swings and a nice sitting area. Bathroom is not entirely inclosed (its screened in but there are some gaps), though this wasn't an issue for us. There is only a tub in the bathroom and a spray nozzle. For upright showers, you can head to the outdoor shower which was so nice! The water was consistently warm and felt like a treat in the humidity.
House is fully stocked with towels, soap, etc. There were some spices and cooking oils as well. The house runs on solar and since it was a little cloudy during our trip, we relied on the generator quite a bit, which wasn't a problem at all. There is a potable water spout in the kitchen sink but we ended up purchasing some water for cooking and drinking, just to be safe. I'm sure the water is fine, though. Oven did not work during out stay. Kitchen was fully stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc.
About the area - this is a very secluded house off the beaten path but still close enough to all of the amenities. We loved heading down the road to Uncle Robert's which has a nice little market and some food options. There is a market on Wed nights that is supposed to be incredible, but we weren't there at that time. I believe that some of the hot pools nearby were covered with the recent lava flow, but there are apparently still some to enjoy. There is a black sand, clothing optional beach within a short drive as well. The main house is on a dirt road and just a short walk to the ocean, though not to a swimmable area.
House is less than an hour from Hilo. We drove up for the Sunday farmers market which I would highly recommend! Also an easy drive to Volcano park.
Overall, would say this house was a definite highlight of our trip! If you are looking for something a little different but with all of the comforts of a nice home, this is the place for you! I hope to make it back someday. Aloha!

Paradise. This place is now my favorite place in the world. The house comes fully equipped with towels, games, books and everything you need to fully enjoy your time in the jungle. It's the most peaceful and beautiful property I have ever stayed at. There are three bedrooms so it is perfect for big groups! Full kitchen with filtered drinking water, a large deck with hammocks, an amazing outdoor shower and so much more. I could not recommend this place enough!
