Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Welcome to our newly established campsite! We made our dream a reality by creating a compassionate place where plant-based, vegan, and vegan curious individuals can unplug, enjoy nature, and socialize. The campsite is designed to have the comforts of home but in the surroundings of lush Hawaii. The bathhouse has solar heated showers, and we provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You can step right from a hot spa like shower into nature. Then, take a short walk up the log stairs through a decorative garden to the kitchen. The large communal kitchen is built out of local trees that we sawed ourselves. The kitchen has lots of counter space and an island with barstools that are perfect for a social cooking experience. It also has a double sink, a bar sink, a gas stove top, and a cooler (bring your own ice), as well as everything you need to make a meal and eat it. The newly planted vegetable garden might even have some treats for your next meal. Experience the emerging gardens as young plants and fruit trees flourish under the Hawaiian sun or pouring rain. You can break out one of the puzzles or games for some fun, borrow one off the books and blankets, and even make yourself a picnic or cozy up by the fire on a chilly night. At night, the campground is illuminated by solar powered lights, disconnect from modern distractions, and reconnect with nature under starlit skies. You can treat yourself to the fruits of the island with two nearby fruit stands and a Sunday farmers market in town, offering fresh, locally grown produce. The wild animals of Hawai'i might stop by. This includes I'o (Hawaiian Hawks), Pueo (Hawaiian owls only found on the Big Island), turkeys, pigs, and geckos. Please bring ear plugs and bug spray as this is the forest and we have critters like mosquitos and animals making noise . We are mostly off-grid but with county water supplying our buildings that is safe to drink. There is no electricity or wifi, and limited cell reception in the area, so make sure to check your phone before heading out from Honoka'a. This is a perfect opportunity to disconnect and have an offline experience. We are approximately 5 minutes from town and 7 minutes from Waipio lookout and have an easy 2WD accessible road from the highway. Please arrive before 5.30pm if your setting up your own tent as it gets really dark, and no later than 8pm for glamping. Send us a message if you have a later arrival and we can see if we can make it work. We are passionate about animals and their well-being. Out of respect for our 9 and growing rescue animals we have on the property, we ask that you eat vegan on the premises. We have poured a ton of love into this property so you can have a wonderful experience to remember as well as potentially meet new people and create lasting friendships.

Butterfly Camp
We booked the campsite very spontaneously. But everything worked out perfectly. A very lovely hostess and a great campsite. We made a campfire and enjoyed the night. There are lots of different plants to discover. We would love to come again.

Memorable experience with Family!
If you want to get away from all the noise in the city and relax in nature this is it! Emma & her Husbands camping ground is by far one of the Best we have experienced on this side of the island. It had exactly what was described, from Amazing hot showers, and the kitchen was my favorite. It had everything we needed, from pots, utensils, & a big dining area allowing us to come together as a family to enjoy our yummy plant based dinners together.. Loved the cute tiki mosquitoes lanterns which helped keep the mosquitoes away. The bonfires & star gazing were lovely each night (wood was already chopped & ready to go for us) 😍. Emma brought us a delicious fruit bowl on our first night, it was def a warm welcome & we felt right at home. Loved the games provided, plant based cook books with recipes. Thank you for an Amazing experience, we look forward to coming back soon!

A sweet escape :)
Camping at Emma’s was lovely! It was easy to pull in to the spot and get comfy as everything was super clean and organized. I brought groceries and cooked dinner in the kitchen (which was stocked with all I needed), made a fire under the stars, and took an amazing hot shower that was seriously spa-like in one of the cute bathrooms. Sleeping was peaceful inside the big tent and there was even a cozy memory foam mattress and super fuzzy blankets!! The tent also has lights/nightlights built in, and the rest of the campsite is lit up in a perfectly subtle way. The site is surrounded by growing fruit trees and flowers then nestled in the woods. There’s sunshine and the sound of tropical birds to wake you up in the morning! I wish I had more time to chill here since it was so serene…plus there were plenty of books and board games so you can totally disconnect. This is a great getaway and perfect spot to relax after a long day.
