🏕️ Tent 3 – Primitive Site **Oct 2026 - please ask us about our washhouse before booking. It sustained damage in the hurricane. We are taking bookings and we do have a porta potty, but washhouse is not currently functional. Tent 3 is a peaceful wooded walk-in site located near the center of the property—close to the action but still surrounded by trees and nature. It’s perfect for campers who enjoy a bit of privacy while remaining within easy walking distance of the main loop and washhouse. This site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and trash can. Firewood is available for purchase on-site (cutting live vegetation is strictly prohibited). 🚶‍♀️ Access: This is a walk-in campsite located about 100 yards from the main trail. You’ll park at the main trailhead and walk in from there. A wagon is provided to help transport your gear to and from the site. 💧 Facilities: There is no running water or electricity at this site. A Porta Potty is located within the campground area for convenience, and the main washhouse—with coin-operated washer and dryer and a full bathroom with shower—is a short walk away. 📶 Connectivity: Wi-Fi is not available at this site, and cell service may be limited depending on your carrier. 🐾 Pets: Pets are welcome! Please keep them leashed, under control, and clean up after them. 🚶‍♂️ Trails: You’ll have easy access to our maintained half-mile hiking loop and additional trails throughout the gated property—perfect for morning walks or evening strolls. ⸻ 🚪 Guest Access Guests have access to: • Tent 3 campsite area • Fire ring, picnic table, and trash can • Walking trails within the gated property • Parking at the main trailhead • Washhouse with coin-operated washer, dryer, and full bathroom with shower The property is fully fenced and gated, with coded entry for your safety and privacy. ⸻ 🧺 Washhouse Courtesy & Cleanliness The washhouse is a shared courtesy space for all campers. **Oct 2026 - please ask us about our washhouse before booking. It sustained damage in the hurricane. We are taking bookings and we do have a porta potty, but washhouse is not currently functional. Nestled in the woods just off the main camping loop, this peaceful site is perfect for tent, car, or van campers. You can park right on the trail leading to your campsite for easy access. This is a true primitive site—no running water or electricity. A porta potty is a short walk away, and the main Washhouse (with a sink, flush toilet, shower, and coin-operated laundry) is just across the grassy knoll. Your site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and trash can. Firewood is available for purchase on-site—please note that cutting or gathering live vegetation is strictly prohibited. Parking is limited to one vehicle at the site, with overflow parking available nearby. 🧺 Washhouse Courtesy and Cleanliness The washhouse is a shared courtesy space for all campers. Cleanliness, respect for others, and proper shared use are mandatory. It is not a personal hangout area—please avoid lingering or behaviors that make others uncomfortable using the facility. This is a Leave No Trace area as well, and no one cleans up after you. Please follow the rules to avoid loss of access or removal. As we strive to make a comfortable and enjoyable place for all of our campers, please review and agree to our washhouse rules before booking, as guests who cannot follow them may find Gateway Trails is not the right fit.

Welcome to Gateway Trails and the Red Oak Nook campsite! We are a gateway to the expansive activities of the Blackwater State Forest and to the beautiful Northwest Florida Emerald Coast (Destin, Okaloosa Island, Pensacola Beaches, 30A). Our campsite feels secluded as it is surrounded by the natural barrier of trees all around you. We have 3 RV/Tent sites on fully fenced in 14 acres, and 2 additional primitive and boondock site . Hosts actively live on the corner 4 acres of land away from campsites. There are well-maintained walking/biking/hiking trails are on the property, with many parts shaded. Sites have water, sewer, and electric. Red Oak Nook has a 50 AMP connection but we have a 50 to 30 AMP adapter you can use. If you are a tent only camper contact me for a discount code for this site! Pets are welcome! However, you cannot leave your pet unattended outside when you are not on site. Always keep your pet on a leash when outside of your campsite. If you are the only guest on site, contact me and we can definitely set up some off leash play time! 7 min drive from the Holt I-10 Exit (exit 45) 3.5 miles to Baker, Fl (Dollar General, Pic n Sav, gas, couple of eating places) 10 miles to Crestview, Fl (Hwy 85) .4 miles to the edge of the Blackwater River Forest Area 1.9 miles to Bone Creek Recreation Area 5 miles to secluded beachhead on Blackwater River (this route does require dirt road rough terrain access). 2.0 Miles to South Laurel Farms Florida Wedding Venue 3.7 Miles to Camp Retreat Wedding/Event Venue 40 Miles to Destin via Mid-Bay bridge 35 Miles to Pensacola, Fl 50 Miles to Pensacola Beach, Fl ~3 miles from Hwy 189 / Hwy 4 South, as you travel to the Emerald Coast (30A, Destin, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, etc Florida from Alabama). And, if you are coming from Texas, Louisiana, North Georgia, or Alabama, we are a great ½ point to Walt Disney World or Tampa!

Our Boondocking ++ site has fresh water access in the field, 110 outlet, and full access to our washhouse. 🚫 No hookups: This site has no water, electricity, or sewer connections. ⚡ Generators: Standard generators are allowed only for short, necessary use (e.g., charging batteries). Continuous operation—day or night—is not permitted. 🔇 Quiet Generators: If you have a quiet inverter generator that does not disturb other campers, you may use it without restriction as long as courtesy and noise standards are maintained. 📶 Wi-Fi: Not available at this site (signal does not reach this area). ⛺ RV/Van only: Tents are not permitted. 🌳 Setting: Gated, wooded campground with spacious, well-spaced sites. Gateway Trails is the perfect little getaway! It’s small and family run, making it the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy the nature without feeling crowded. I’ve visited as a solo female camper a couple of times and never once felt unsafe or uncomfortable here. The setting is absolutely beautiful and remote, but there are still some restaurants and stores in the area with great selections. Jay and Suzette are so kind and helpful as well; I really can’t recommend this place highly enough.

We had a great stop at Jay and Suzette’s place. Clear directions to the site, great layout. I did not have the correct converter for the hook up and they came right over to lend me one. The wash house was an amazing bonus!

Gateway Trails was an outstanding camping experience. The campground was clean, well-maintained, and had some of the nicest bathroom facilities I’ve seen while camping. The camp store was a huge bonus—stocked with just about everything you could need, whether you forgot a camping essential or just wanted a snack. One thing that really stood out was the welcoming atmosphere. There were games available both indoors and outdoors, making it easy to relax and have fun throughout the day. The open space around the campground was perfect for my dog, giving us plenty of room to walk, play, and enjoy the outdoors together. The combination of great amenities, clean facilities, and plenty of space made this a memorable stay. Gateway Trails has created a campground that feels both comfortable and connected to nature. I’ll definitely be returning and would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing camping getaway. Some campsites give you a place to stay. Gateway Trails gave me a place to unwind, make memories, and enjoy the simple things in life.

Bath house was great added feature. All instructions were clear and their communication on any questions was quick. Highly recommended.

Set up was a breeze on arrival. Jay met me and showed me my boondocking site - flat and plenty of room to pull in and circle around for my 26' TT. Keyed and gated entry was nice. Each day I heard the neighbor's rooster and a braying donkey - far enough away to be unobtrusive and near enough to be enjoyed. Other campers down the road were either tent campers or RVs enjoying full hookups. Met some nice folks! Only had 2 other boondocking neighbors during my 7 night stay. Jay and Suzette were lovely and welcoming. Enjoyed evening conversation while the guys played horseshoes. The laundry/shower/toilet rooms were clean and well kept. Laundry rate was very reasonable. I enjoyed my time there so much I extended my stay a few more days. You might want to bring your own fresh water as the water hose by the tank dump is not technically potable due to its location.

We needed a boondock site for one night. We booked with Jay and Suzette and we were very surprised Bathroom, shower, laundry, little treats, and lovely trails around the property to take a walk or jog. The tent and RV-hook-up sites are scattered about giving alot of space and privacy . They were lovely hosts as well.

Gateway Trails is by far the best Hipcamp site I have visited. Jay and his pup greeted us to make sure we had everything we needed. We only made a quick overnight but honestly I could have stayed for days. Highly recommend especially to solo travelers looking for a safe place to rest your head.

Jay and Suzette are excellent hosts . The location was very easily accessible to I-10 and the Emerald Coast beaches. Convenient grocery options nearby. It's a quiet place in the country the hosts are really welcoming and very knowledgeable it's great for Boondocking if you want your privacy you can also get a remote to the gate which was really convenient; the showers were clean with hot water, washer and dryer available, potable water. Owners checked in on me to make sure I was okay. My only drawback was the neighbours in the neighbouring property played their music pretty loud at night. I was too tired after a date at the beach to care. Other than that everything is cool. The price was right for me ;a weary traveller needing to stay someplace car and tent campingfor at least four days while I took in the beaches. Found a few dog friendly beaches within 50 miles , thx to Jay and Suzettes knowledge of the area. definitely worth it.see you all on down the road! Jen G, TX.

RV1 - Long Leaf Landing (FHU)

You won’t regret staying here. Whether you’re in a tent, van, RV, or just boondocking out of your vehicle, it’s a really comfortable and safe place to land. The owners genuinely give off that “welcome to auntie and uncle’s place” vibe, which made it feel easy right away. The other campers were kind and welcoming, but also respectful of quiet space, which I appreciated. I stayed in an RV spot but was SUV camping and still felt completely safe and comfortable. The facilities were extremely clean and clearly well maintained. They’re also thoughtfully set up, and there were affordable last-minute snacks available — or what I called “emergency coffee,” which honestly is a huge plus when you need it. I’d absolutely stay here again if I’m in the area. And the location is great. There are a ton of trails nearby through the forests and forest management areas. The Florida Trail is a quick drive away, and there are plenty of dog-friendly options. Overall I had a really good experience here.

We always love staying at Gateway Trails! Suzette and Jay are the absolute best hosts and make it feel like our home away from home. The boondocking spot was an easy in and out for us and the bathroom/laundry room was so clean and nice! Can’t wait to come through and stay again!

It was our first experience using Hipcamp, and we couldn’t have hoped for a better one. We spent the evening around the fire with other campers, sharing stories, it was such a fun and memorable time. We hope to come back again soon!

Thanks to the Reviews here AND the quick Reply to my HipCamp message ~ booked an unexpected getaway. WHAT a great place to start the new year and experience the 1st full moon. The hosts were super accepting and accommodating of my late arrival. It's only an hour away to put your toes in the sand! And that sparkling clean, hot shower is a huge bonus after a day at the beach. Even got a guided tour of the property. Peaceful & private ~ perfection! The hosts' care for the campers promotes an obvious feel of community. CanNOT wait to go back in the spring!

RV1 - Long Leaf Landing (FHU)

Really enjoyed our time at gateway trails. The host welcomed us when we got there. The property is beautiful and loved the walking trails. And the washhouse was well stocked and clean. Would definitely recommend.
