Camp Chowenwaw is a unique 150-acre recreational haven nestled along the serene Black Creek in Green Cove Springs, where it meets the majestic St. Johns River. This picturesque park is a treasure trove of outdoor activities, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying a variety of amenities. From camping and event facilities to hiking trails, fishing spots, and kayak access, there’s something for everyone. Families can also enjoy a volleyball court, picnic areas, a seasonal pool, a museum, a nature center, and a playground, making it an ideal destination for both relaxation and adventure. In 2006, Clay County acquired Camp Chowenwaw from the Girl Scouts of the Gateway Council, with support from Florida Communities Trust through Florida Forever funds. The park is now carefully managed to protect its historical significance and natural resources while providing ample recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages. For over 70 years, starting in 1933, the Girl Scout Council of Duval County operated this site as a camp, creating lasting memories for three generations of young women in Northeast Florida. Today, Camp Chowenwaw continues to be a cherished destination, inviting you to explore its beauty and discover the hidden gem of Clay County.
