An hour from london, a world away…
A lovely and relaxed spot to get away for a night (or three) - only an hour’s drive from central london and yet a world away. Basic facilities provided, perfect for some off-grid, back-to-nature repose. All year round too! We ate breakfast on an open stove surrounded by alpacas, miniature goats and baby lambs, and stayed warm around our campfire at night, fueled by firewood from the surrounding forests (rapidly filling with bluebells in spring). Lovely nature trails all around the site, and a five minute stroll to Britian’s oldest freehouse where Charles’s II is thought to have hidden from Cromwell’s men. Highly recommend a pint of Conqueror! No shortage of things to do nearby- a short 10 minute drive will take you into Roald Dahl country and next time we plan to check out the model village. Kid and dog friendly. Can’t wait to return in the summer!

Great place for all ages.
I stayed 3 nights, 31,M, travelled on a motorbike the host was very accommodating, lovely scenic views all around, roaming sheep, goats and llamas on the same field you camp, only a 5-8mins walk to englands oldest pub the royal standard of England, in the other direction up the hill opposite and down a lovely bridle way you can find yourself with another pub called the red Lion and a small village shop with a pond opposite about a 30min walk worth the walk through the woods and fields. Facility’s was good, 2 toilets, a well built shower felt warm, water, small fridge, and a small extension cable for basic charging of your phone if needed, had easy access to fire wood free of charge because of work being carried out. access was tough as I have a sports bike so the gravel hill was hard work only got two wheels each of which have independent brakes 🤣but there was another way out at the bottom of the field so I took that way out it was definitely worth it. Would highly recommend. 5⭐️

Surprisingly rural.
Simple campsite in a surprisingly rural setting. surrounded sheep and their new-born lambs, pigs and goats and llamas. Only a few minutes drive to a station that can get you to London in 30 minutes! There’s a five minute walk along a wooded footpath to an fascinating ancient pub, The Royal Standard. There’s a shack for washing up and portaloos. Really feels like you are miles from civilisation. There are a few cabins and bell tents to hire on site. The land could do with a bit of tidy up. Some campers seem to have left their pitches in less than pristine condition. Don’t be one of them.
