READ BEFORE BOOKING
17 ft rooftop tent · With pets · ORIGINAL REVIEW: The pond was pretty, and we had it mostly to ourselves. The host met us when we arrived, showed us to our spot, and had firewood available, which we appreciated.
Unfortunately, the flies were overwhelming. We went to Lowe’s that night and spent about $85 on bug lights and traps trying to make it manageable. By morning, our tent was infested, and we decided we couldn’t stay the second night we had booked. At that point, my review would simply have said the setting was pretty, but the current fly situation made camping extremely difficult.
UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OUR INTERACTION WITH THE HOST: The host came by while we were packing. We explained why we were leaving and asked for a refund for the unused second night. He initially agreed. He later came back, asked us not to leave a bad review, and told us he would not refund the second night if we did.
I told him I hadn’t planned to leave a bad review, but I did need to honestly mention the flies so future campers could make an informed decision. I don’t fault anyone for nature or insects. However, conditioning a refund for an unused night on whether a guest leaves a negative review completely changed my impression of the experience.
