We had a great time staying out here this past weekend. It was very windy and rainy, but that is to be expected. The property is very calming and open, which is great for the astrophotography we were able to take. Clouds made it difficult, but that isn't Christine's fault! The water from the pump is very rusty, and we opted not to drink/use it. However, there is a Dollar General 6 miles up the road, so it was no big deal! Would definitely recommend staying here.

We absolutely loved our stay at High Peaks! Site 17 was in the perfect corner with no one between our view of the mountains and site itself was big enough to fit two 4-person tents, a 6-person tent and 2 vehicles.
There were a few sites nearby to us, but noise was not an issue. We were lucky enough to not have anyone in the sites next to us at first, but even when campers showed up it was very peaceful. We felt like we had our own private campsite even with it being Labor Day weekend!
The porta-potties were SO clean (probably the cleanest I've been in), and the toilet paper was stocked up until our last day. We appreciated that there was firewood on-site and took advantage of not having to go anywhere. The picnic table was also nice to have, and the potable water on-site was a huge blessing.
Wifi didn't work from our campsite but service was still available for calls & texts. Wind was a slight issue for us the first day, high gusts of up to 15 MPH and we had some difficulty keeping our tents down and no campfires in those conditions. It didn't effect our experience at all after it died down, but I would recommend bringing extra stakes. It also gets very hot with no tree coverage.
Sunrise & sunset had the most incredible 360 views, if you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful environment - stay here!! 10/10 would recommend again.

What a beautiful place, the views were lovely and not too far from the sand dunes. Christine was very understanding and accommodating as we had some truck troubles that made us a day behind on our schedule.

This was one of the coolest camping spots we’ve ever stayed at. We happened to be the only campers on the property the first night and stayed at tent site 17. The second night another set of campers joined but they were far enough away that we couldn’t hear them. We had a camper van as well as a truck with teardrop camper and there was plenty of room at tent site 17. The campground is out in the middle of nowhere. You can see the great sand dunes way off in the distance which is cool and you can’t beat the star gazing. Luckily we were the only folks at the campground. You can definitely see other campers on the campground (if there had been some) as there’s no trees or anything between the sites. They are spaced far enough apart though. Would recommend if you want beautiful views of the sky.

High Peaks Campground is exceptional! Peaceful, the sites are nicely spread apart, and the views are incredible! Close to the Sand Dunes, Colorado Gators and the UFO Watchtower! Christine is an incredible host, and it available and friendly! Definitely highly recommended!

The views of the sand dunes and surrounding mountains were wonderful and the stargazing at night was incredible because of the clear sky!
Christine welcomed us as we checked in and said that we were welcome to ride around the property with 4 wheelers , so my two granddaughters took advantage!
Water pressure was low but no big deal, we had a great time!

Christine was very welcoming and offered a pro tip on when to get to the sand dunes allowing us to avoid waiting in any lines! The views and sunsets are gorgeous. Site 15 was definitely close and would be best if you had a shared group, otherwise quiet! Had to remember to carry tp to the portapotty as they were usually out.

Incredible Views. Good camping space - not too close to any neighbors. The only thing that was frustrating was that another set of campers dogs were running around and it looked like they attacked someone else’s dog. We had our dogs tied up the entire time and it felt like we had to be on lookout to make sure those dogs didn’t come over to ours. Please follow the rules. It’s not that hard to keep your dog tied to a leash.

Just spent a magical few nights camping here with my partner, and it was everything our souls needed. The spot is tucked away in nature with breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains that made every sunrise and sunset feel like a spiritual experience. At night, the stars stretched endlessly across the sky—so clear, so vast, it felt like the universe was putting on a show just for us.
The area was super quiet and peaceful, with the kind of stillness that invites deep breaths and inner calm. We fell asleep to the sounds of coyotes howling in the distance and owls calling from the trees, and woke up to birdsong that felt like nature’s own alarm clock. The energy here is pure and grounding.
The other campers we encountered were kind and mellow, sharing smiles and good vibes. Even the portapotties were clean—which, let’s be honest, is a huge plus when you’re living simply.
It’s also in an ideal location—close to the sacred beauty of the Great Sand Dunes, the hidden magic of Zapata Falls, endless hiking trails, the quirky charm of the UFO Watchtower, and the mystical, artistic town of Crestone.
We left feeling recharged, connected, and full of gratitude. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to slow down, tune in, and feel the magic of the Earth. We’ll definitely be back. ✨🌄🌌🌿

We really enjoyed our trip to Christine’s land. She was incredibly kind and gave us lots of good info. The views were spectacular! You could even see The Great Sand Dunes off in the distance. There was also a dog park just a short walk from our site that our dogs enjoyed. 10/10 would recommend this incredible place.

Christine was wonderful! Super friendly, communicative and helpful. We came to see the Sand Dunes and Hot Springs. The hot springs are only 20 minutes away and Sand Dunes were about an hour.
You can’t really beat the views from the Valley. Gorgeous mountains and there’s a map to help you name all the peaks.
We stayed a couple nights in a tent and it was extremely quiet with beautiful stars. The shrubs a bushes do offer quite a bit of privacy as well.
Gas stations are sparse out here! Keep that tank full 😀.

We absolutely loved camping here. The views were spectacular and the site was plenty big enough for our camper, tent, and 2 cars. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced in dog park a short walk from our site. We can’t wait to camp here again in the near future!

Tent site 6 was amazing! There was plenty of room and it was the closest site to the mountain view. The campground is VERY quiet and peaceful. It's so far from the road that there was no road-noise at all! We saw the milky way at night, which was so special. Christine was an excellent host and very responsive to questions! The only downside is the walk to the port-a-port from site 6, but I would rather have the unobstructed mountain view!

Solid option in the San Luis Valley

This is a great basecamp in the San Luis Valley for visits to Great Sand Dunes National Park, stargazing, and any sort of fishing in the Rio Grande (e.g., South Fork, Creede). Tent campsite #1 is nearby and, if occupied, you will be looking at other campers when looking out at the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo range. Tent campsite #1 was, however, unoccupied and not an issue for us at all. The host is an excellent communicator and accommodating too. Will return!

We loved camping here! Check in was very easy and the firewood we preordered was easy to find - the owner also responded quickly when we asked where it was. The site itself was extremely beautiful with great mountain views and gorgeous stargazing at night. We could hear all of the wildlife in the quiet area, and the site was quite big with a nice fire pit and picnic table. It was also really cool hearing the coyotes in the mountains at night! We will definitely return!

The views at the tent site were amazing. And you do get some signal while you’re there! We checked out the porta potty and it was actually decent, like a regular porta potty. Our site (#6) was the closest one to the mountains and had a picnic table + camp fire area. Would recommend this area!

This was a wonderful place to get away from it all. There are other campsites, but they are very well dispersed and being off-season. There were not many others there. You really got the sense that you were out in nature. You have 360° view of Mountains, changing weather patterns, mountain storms, etc. there’s a Dollar General close by, great Sand dunes Park nearby. But otherwise it was a real pleasure staying there and getting away from it all. Christine was very accommodating.

There were beautiful views as well and less than an hour drive to sand dunes.
