Underworld Farms

Great place to camp at. Wanted to go somewhere calm for my first solo trip and it did not disappoint. The views are amazing you have cell reception and are so close to amazing hikes and places to see. It’s definitely more of an RV or sleep in your car kind of spot so if you are in a tent I would probably bring a sleeping pad. Again great place loved my time there!

Great view of the lake, 5 min to kernville so a great place to stay before going rafting. Place was as advertised and I enjoyed my stay!

Amazing View and Great Area

Number 5 has the best view, truly amazing to eat and look out at the lake and mountains, and then the stars at night are also amazing. having the little beach right near the site is also perfect. the town nearby is great and has lots of history, and the lake was incredible. we rented a boat as per esteban’s suggestion and it was so fun. Three things to note: 1. the site is rocky, so if you’re using a tent you should have something to put under the tent (we drove to the gas station and got some empty boxes and put them under the tent) 2. there is no shade at the site, so bring some sort of shade if it’s going to be hot 3. the outhouse could use a bit of maintenance in my opinion (needs a clean and there are lots of spiders) but that might not bother some of you anyways. still 5 stars in my opinion though, and if you’re in a camper/trailer you won’t even have to think about those things i mentioned. overall super fun and enjoyable!

Awesome site! Great views and nice rustic setup. Close to a day use cove for fishing and swimming, and only a few miles to restaurants and groceries. Facilities are rustic , but definitely cover the bases for a couple nights. Directions to the site we're straight forward, and Esteban was communicative throughout. Awesome stay!

Had a great stay here! Except for the first night we had the place to ourselves. The site is close to many things and it’s nice a quiet there. A few things you need to know before booking: 1) We stayed in the sailboat that sleeps 2 (kind of). It was honestly pretty tight for my girlfriend and I as the very back narrows quite a bit. I would say it’s better for 1 person! Note: I’m only 5’8 155lbs and my girlfriend is smaller. 2) A lot of bugs! We expect that while we’re camping so we were fine but if you hate mosquitoes and spiders/webs maybe this place isn’t for you. 3) Pretty bare bones and not much shade coverage so be prepared! We planned on staying on the river most of the days anyway so that wasn’t an issue for us. All that being said- It’s a really fun place to stay and I would recommend it!

Encampment 6

Overall, this campsite was good. The site itself was clean and the bathroom was well maintained and for an outhouse did not smell. Easy access to the lake was really nice. We did have to walk down a hill through some foxtails and shrubs, so if you're going with a pup, please keep that in mind. The path down to the lake wasn't the easiest to find either and we ducked under the fence to walk to the lake. There is also driving access to the same beach right down the road. We used this option and just parked our truck right on the beach. The campsite has LTE and there are restaurants 5 minutes up the road if you choose to go that route. Some things to note that we didn't consider when we booked. It gets really windy at the top of the hill from the lake so cooking and campfires can be a bit of a challenge for sites 5-7. The wind gusts got pretty extreme and I would recommend some heavy duty tent stakes. I honestly can't emphasize enough how windy it got during the day. The site itself is relatively small. We barely had enough space to set up our six-person tent and Park our truck in the campsite space. The campsite itself was clean but did have lots of shrubs where we needed to set our tent, which could be uncomfortable for some if you're not sleeping on an air mattress or a pad. The foxtails were really bad, we had our dog on a raised bed relaxing most of the time we were at the site, but if you're bringing a dog, I would keep this in mind.

The property it was on felt very unsafe and I hate to say it but a little bit trashy. I couldn’t figure out where to get to the lake and when I finally did, there wasn’t hardly a beach or anyway to enjoy it. The boat felt very sketchy and I just overall did not feel very safe staying there. Maybe it would have been different if I was with a group/family, but I’m not sure anymore than one person would be able to sleep there, the bed was very small and was just a piece of foam, not a real mattress.

My grandkids had a blast exploring the area. The boat was a bit noisy at night when the wind would blow through but the kids slept through. The solar powered lights were beautiful at night. There’s very little light pollution from city lights, so the stars were amazing!

We stayed in encampment #5 and loved it! Amazing views as the site is on the upper terrace. It was also great that the fire pit had height to it. Nothing like a fire and huge starry sky at night. The bathroom set up is clean and has water and paper towels to wash your hands. We were the only campers so it was quiet for us. Estaban was a breeze to communicate with. Must go to the Kern River Ceviche Company for dinner, best ceviche in a long time!! Absolutely would recommend!

We enjoyed really enjoyed staying at Esteban's land in number 5. The view was amazing! Also only a few minutes from Kernsville and Sequoia National Forest. The outhouse was not something I would want to use so it's best it you have your own toilet.

Secluded, great views. Clean. Kinda hard to find. The host posts a few great links to google map points of interests. Hard to get to once you get there from the service being kinda slow to make sure to download them in advance. Also for some reason the address when you punch it into your iPhone maps it sends you to a different house. If you show up to an area with a red gate or a house with a driveway. This isn’t it. The campground is next to a cemetery and a day use area. Also site 5 is a tough for an RV I would recommend using the pull thru sites not pull in. It’s pretty tight. Would definitely come back. You could hear tons of wildlife from our site. We came during November and got the whole campground to ourselves.

We stayed here as a halfway point between Death Valley and Kings Canyon/Sequoia. Highly recommend getting here before dark as it was really tough to navigate the land and find our exact camping spot. It’s a unique property with a great story, and the morning sun view was beautiful.

The campsites were very rocky and un kept. Not a welcoming environment and the driveway in was closed so you had to go around through the house driveway. Was also not clear if walking down to the water was advisable or if that belonged to someone else.

Esteban gave us detailed instructions for getting to his place so we found it easily. We had a wonderful and quiet stay in our RV at Underworld Farm. At daylight we enjoyed the stunning view to River Kern, Lake Isabella and the surrounding mountains, at night moon and stars. Our host was helpful and gave us explanations concerning our further journey. Thanks a lot!

Not the comfiest but it is pretty!

Overall loved the novelty of staying on the boat. My partner and I really wanted to be near the water and were able to walk to two “day use” areas near the campsite. Since the campsite is located right where the lake meets the upper kern river, the current was pretty mellow and we were able to float in the water near the shore with no problems. It was also fun to go and say Hi to the horses and goats! I wish we were made aware of a few things before booking. 1. There appeared to be artificial hives on the property? My partner is allergic to bees so we had a hard time with the amount of bees nearby during the day. Thankfully we were gone for most of daylight. 2. I find it hard to believe more people are not writing about the ‘bed’ inside the boat. My partner and I are both 5’6” 160 lbs each and we could not sleep together on the mattress comfortably. One slept in the cabin on the bench and the other on the mattress. If you are a light sleeper, beware this boat makes a sound at the slightest movement during sleep. If there is any wind outside it will make loud noises. 3. The outhouses were full of cobwebs and completely unusable to my own standards. I’d rather use the outdoors. (Not a big deal, we were camping) This all being said, the hosts were very nice and gave great direction. They have a cool eclectic property that we enjoyed for a night. Would love to stay in the miners shack next time!

Unique Waterside Stay

We had a wonderful time in the quiet waterside serentity of Underworld Farm. Our sleeping arrangement was a little small for our 2 larger bodies but we enjoyed the ambiance and would definitely stay with the farm again! The grounds are a beautiful space with lots of options for groups too. We thought we would love to come back with more friends again. The River and Lake were nice getaway from city life.
