Ant infestation, not habitable
My partner and I were very much looking forward to our stay however it turned unpleasant and we left early. The yurt had a severe ant infestation when we arrived and throughout our trip. We used insect repellant, kept all food in the freezer and fridge, and kept sink and counters clean however, the ants were everywhere—on the kitchen counter, along the walls, in the bathroom, on the carpet, and eventually somehow made it onto the bed (that’s when we had enough and left). On top of that, the outlet pipe for the kitchen sink was not attached (causing grey water to leak into the cabinet which attracted more ants); we found that the pipes were connected with duct tape versus a gasket and washer so of course the tape had fallen off from the dampness and who knows how long it had been leaking for.
We contacted the host immediately and kept her updated on the ant situation and kitchen sink as we really wanted to make the trip work. Luckily we took photos and videos and were proactive in our communication. The host was helpful and responsive, and was willing to give us a full refund when we requested it. Hipcamp also refunded us.
This has the potential to be nice but there are signs of negligence and it really needs better management, cleanliness, and substantial repair to make it a habitable accommodation. We personally would have liked brighter and more neutral decor as well—the personal artwork and dark furniture made the place feel gloomy and added to our negative experience.
