The Meadow Grove is a wild and natural pasture with campsites located near the historic Narrow Gauge Railroad bed on a family owned working ranch in coastal Northern California. The camp sites are nestled in a pasture and grove of mixed Eucalyptus, willow and cypress trees. The sites are perfect for tents or camper vans, or small trailers. [When we open in the spring, the grass can be 'slippery' and it is recommended you have 4WD. Around mid-June it is dried out enough for 2WD access to all sites]. Not suitable for RVs It is also, managed and operated by a single mother. Please keep this in mind. Notes about the campsites are: They each come with a picnic table. The grounds are a working ranch, so there is variations of the soil- some lumps and bumps and general natural state of a pasture v. a groomed lawn. Site #1, #2, #3, and #4 have the most level areas for parking and tent-ing. Up until mid-June, we recommend #1 for 2WD access. Campervans that do not have 4WD may have trouble accessing other sites. Please remember this when you book! *Campers who "change sites" without written approval by the host will be charged double!* There is a composting camp toilet, we do not have running water at the campground. The ranch itself is 300 acres of rolling hills pasture, with hilltop views of the Estero Americano valley. The Meadow Grove is home to many varieties of raptors and other birds-providing excellent bird watching. Seasonally there are blackberries to fill your containers, and some hiking. We are mere minutes from the quaint towns of Valley Ford, Tomales, and Dillon Beach, and a short drive from Bodega, Bodega Bay or Marshall, Pt. Reyes Station and Inverness. Nearby attractions include: Sonoma Coast beaches, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, coastal hiking trails, local farm-to-table eateries. Inland attractions include: redwoods, wine tasting, Russian River activities and so much more. The ranch borders Hwy 1, so there is some degree of road noise. Traffic usually dies down mid afternoon, and isn't too much of a disturbance. Virtually all traffic on our stretch of road is daytime traffic. There can be however, some heavy weekend traffic during the day with car clubs and motorcycle riders enjoying the coastal highway. *The Friendly Gray Cat's name is Boots!*

The sites are subject to some road noise, as we are right on Hwy 1. Nearby attractions include: Sonoma Coast beaches, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, coastal hiking trails, local farm-to-table eateries. Site 5 is located in the farthest right corner of the campground (from the entrance) under a very historic cherry tree. It was planted in the pioneer era, when this area was a homestead. The tree is at least 130 years old. When in season, there are cherries! The site is in the corner of the campground, giving privacy from the other camp sites. It is somewhat near the road, but since traffic dies down in the afternoon, noise has not been a problem for the campers staying there. When coming into The Grove campground from the entrance gate, Site#1 and #5 are to your right. Site #1 will be first, and then beyond that- #5. It is the furthest from the entrance gate, along the road side. With a tell-tale old fruit tree being the landmark. **When you book this site, Hipcamp will tell you that you booked site#1 of "Site 5 of The Meadow Grove". (As it is, this site and site #4, are their own listings due to being added at a separate time from the first 3. Hipcamp then also numbers them the first sites of those listings. It has proven confusing) Rest assured, you have booked Site 5 of The Meadow Grove.

The Grove campsite #2 is located near the historic Narrow Gauge Railroad bed on a family-owned working ranch in coastal Northern California. There are no hook-ups for RVs, and the access to the campsite prohibits long vehicles. There is access to a composting camp toilet. Site #4 offers the most privacy out of all our camp sites. It is on the 'uphill' side of the historic railroad bed, making it separate from the rest of the campsites. It is also out of sight from the road, making it more quiet and private. To get to #4, once you pull in the entrance gate to the campground, you will drive towards where the outhouse is- and to the right of it is a short dirt driveway that goes up and over the railroad bed. There is a large eucalyptus tree with an arrow directing you which way to go. This same tree has a HEIGHT LIMITING giant branch going over the road. Most vehicles fit under it, and a short Airstream trailer has been pulled under it. Some of the taller camper vans may not fit under this Branch. (the Sprinter types with anything on the roof might be cutting it very close). **When you book this site, Hipcamp will tell you that you booked site#1 of "Site 4 of The Meadow Grove". (As it is, this site and site #5, are their own listings due to Hipcamps' data management, so they then also number them the first sites of those listings. Site 3 - The Meadow Grove
Decent site. I was only there in the dark because daylight is limited in November. Noise from traffic is noticeable but generally quiets down other than a few middle of the night loud cars. I slept out. The gray cat came around and needed a place to sleep other than the damp grass, so I shared my pad. The second night I let her sleep in the back seat of my rental car with the door open. I had to leave early, but after a comfy dry night curled up in the back seat didn’t seem to mind getting out to hunt for breakfast when I needed to leave. Great place for van campers.

Lush Camping on/behind the Knoll

Site 4 of The Meadow Grove
Site 4 of the Meadow Grove is the best site in terms of location, view and privacy. It's up and over a knoll and backs up against a bigger hill. The new picnic table is great and there is a little tree to pitch tents under. Green, lush grass abounds. The site did get some traffic noise from the main road further away on a Saturday night but otherwise was a very nice experience.

loved this site. private and cozy in a beautiful setting. we enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the cows and birds in the morning. and the friendly cat patrolling the meadow gave us the warmest of welcomes. outhouses were clean and well looked after. overall great stay and would recommend! as noted in the description, there's a low hanging branch to get up to this site #4 -- I would hesitate to bring a high roof van with a roof rack

Site 5 of The Meadow Grove
The site is in a small peaceful, primitive pasture area on farmland, so it depends on what you’re specifically looking for as this is not a typical campground. There is not a shower, but there are outhouse bathrooms that I felt comfortable using. No odor or anything like that. The cat startled me, jumping on my truck a couple of times in the middle of the night, but once I realized that’s what it was and there was no cause for alarm, then it was fine. The hosts were pleasant.

Lovely camp site. Some beautiful trees surrounding a good sized space for a handful of sites. I enjoyed watching the cows across the way and Boots the cat was a lovely ambassador. All other guests were very respectful. Will be coming back.

Site 5 of The Meadow Grove
We loved the camp cat! Boots was adorable and really good with our kids. We loved hearing and seeing the cows. The sun rises in the fog were iconic. The big downside was the proximity to the highway. At night head lamps from cars would blast through our tent. It seemed like camp site 4 would not have this problem but it is expensive ($95 a night). For the proximity to the main highway, it should have not cost as much. Maybe consider packing in multiple groups into a single campsite to save on cost.

Site 2 was actually relatively spacious and private for the price - bathroom was clean and had cute lights!!! ALSO A HUGE BONUS was the camp cat Boots who was a fantastic host, welcomed us warmly to the site and hung out all night.

Great quiet area except for minimal cars that drive up and down the adjacent road at night. Since it's a main road there are occasional drivers who have noisier cars that rev their engines up and down the road (not too often though). The area had a lot of different spaces to spread out around the designated site, and the trees provided a good amount of shade. The sites also were at a very small incline since it's at the side of a hill (there are decently flat areas for those needing a leveled surface). The campsite is a great space close to Bodega Bay. Also met the campground cat security guard named Boots! 😸 Super friendly cat who says "Hi" to the campers. Just be careful when there's food around. Overall great campground!

Not sure I'm seeing the value equation. On a 2 week trip where we mostly stayed at commercial campgrounds, this was the 2nd most expensive night. It's a pretty location and the night skies are great, but the sites are kind of close together, so the 'feel' is about the same as a commercial campground, but without the amenities.

Pleasant camping area. All sites were full, but there was enough space between them, and others were well-behaved. We were in site #2, quite close to highway 1, but traffic was not heavy. Some loud cow bellowing and roosters crowing at 3 or 4am, but that's to be expected! Composting toilets and urinals were quite nice. Friendly cat was fun, as was rusty old tractor skeleton. Site was under eucalyptus, so worred a bit about sudden branch drop, but no problem this time! Host Anna was very kind and helpful.

We loved camping here! We came here for a weekend trip from San Francisco and had the best time. Highly recommend taking a walk to see the animals from afar, and stopping at the Valley Ford Cheese &Creamery 😍

I was the only one there, easy to find accessible great well defined camp spots sheltered from the wind. Would of been a bonus to heave some running water, other then that perfection thanks 👌

Great camping sites well kept and secluded. The host Anna will make sure. All yours needs are met. The bathrooms are clean with a very nice decor western style. As a bonus there is a furry friend that will greet you on your way in and in the morning. We will sure come back

Close to highway 1 but pretty minimal road traffic, especially after dark. Site 2 is spacious, with a picnic table and several different flat spots sufficient for our larger tent. Other sites are close but the large tree gives site 2 nice privacy.

Nice, rustic campsite close to Dillon Beach; an inexpensive way to stay and explore the area. It’s right next to the road, but there was very little traffic overnight and noise was not a problem. Be sure to read the host’s directions on how to get there - her directions are clear and you’ll find it just fine that way, but relying on your phone maps will steer you wrong (we drove by it the first time and had to turn around). Definitely plan to arrive before dark.

Beautiful views; clear, complete directions. We had the place to ourselves. Spot no. 4, up the hill, would be best, if your vehicle can make it up the knoll.

Location was good and the directions were straightforward. the outhouse is one of the best that I’ve ever seen. The land supervisor was very cute.
