Absolutely had a blast, Lars is a great host and so accommodating. The campsite was clean and well put together. He made sure we had fresh clean warm water for our shower and let us borrow anything we needed! We’ll be back!

Sweet spot for us!

Great place. The owner was sweet. They have a sweet tire swing. A place to cook. A sink and well water. Portable potties. There are off leash dogs but theyre super cute and sweet a little shy. I brought my dogs with no issues. The rock and river is walking distance and easy to get to. We were very happy. The camping spots are all very close together but we went and no one else was there. When you get there and cross the bridge go straight and to the left. #6 is the nicest spot. With a already nice tent available. And a deck. We had the whole thing to ourselves and it was lovely. Right on the north side of the highway. A big space to pull off and right down there. I really enjoyed my time there.

Garden Side

My friends and I had a blast here! While we never met Thomas during our stay, Lars and Wild Man took great care of us and made sure we were situated and had what we needed. Lars walked us all the way to the Hole in the Wall, which was really kind and he’s a great tour guide. Garden Side is a great spot for a group. It does get a lot of sun and gets toasty so bring some sun protection! This camp spot was queer and tripping friendly. We felt really welcome and the vibes were so relaxed. Just make sure if you’re coming in an RV or sprinter that you confirm the width of your vehicle. The bridge is tight, I barely cleared it in my sprinter van. This spot represents what hip camp is all about & I will absolutely come back!

This is a great campground. If you are potentially last-minute camping or camping solo it is a small campground with the owner on site super friendly. The access to bathrooms. Freshwater and showers was great if you were looking for something a little more secluded, it might not be so great because even though there is privacy, you do hear the highway, but great location and access to amazing private Creek and beach with a short walk Looking forward to coming back soon!! Dog friendly 🖤

Garden Side

Garden Side was our favorite site – spacious, flat, and set apart near the farm, with peaceful views of the forested hills. The swimming hole is a pleasant 5–10 minute walk across the bridge and down a trail, and all sites have similar access to it. Some sites also offer glimpses of the creek below, as well as from the entrance bridge. We enjoyed a nature walk with Thomas, who shared fascinating details about native plants and the history of Hole in the Wall, and chatting with Wildman, who has plenty of entertaining stories. Around the property, you’ll find creative play structures like giant chimes and swings, which add to its unique charm. The hosts have big plans for this working farm/campground, so come with an open mind– it’s exciting to imagine what this place will grow into.

#2 Fire Side Camp

Thank you Wild Man and Big Earl for the hospitality! Campsite was over all pretty chill not much privacy and the shower didn’t work. Port o potty was okay. Definitely not a safe or motorcycle friendly driveway. Beware or loose gravel and a wooden bridge that might or might not hold you up. Didn’t make it to the creek because you have to hike back up the steep drive way and trek around down to the creek. Address was very difficult to find. Big earl had an issue with his toe nail, I would definitely recommend cutting that off. Over all it was a chill place to rest your head for the night if your just rambling on through the 101.

Wonderful Nature Hideout!

This camping spot was perfect for a 3 day weekend getaway! I loved how fresh the air is out there, and how peaceful it is at night. It had an amazing spring water shower, which was perfect for me since I like to be fresh for each day. The famous Hole in the Wall was just steps away, and offered a quiet sanctuary for meditation and cold plunge swimming! The water was clear and clean. The people running the camp were very helpful and super kind. I would definitely recommend this place for its location, atmosphere, and serenity.

Great environment !!! Very welcoming and friendly, beautiful scenery, peaceful aura 🙌🏾 I would definitely recommend this to a friend. All the amenities were clean and worked like a charm, i made myself right at home lolz :)))) just make sure you pay extra attention when finding it cuz you may drive right past it ! LOOK FOR THAT BLUE BUCKET LOLLL 😁

Our campsite was well maintained with a great platform to place our tent on. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly and kid friendly (great swings and worlds largest wind chimes). Running water and hot shower!

Unfortunately everything went wrong with this. The host went no contact days before my arrival (still haven't heard from him to this day) so the camp was not set up for my group at all. It was also in the middle of a unsettling junk yard type situation and not nearly as private or spacious as advertised. The grills etc were communal in the middle of the group of sites. The canvas tent was ripped and the two people who were in one of the front trailers (no office type area, I assume these guys lived there? Not sure how they fit in) didn't know who we were. Mostly we just felt really uncomfortable so we didn't even stay. Not recommended.

My teen and I just returned from a week at the Hole in the Wall, and it was delightful! Somehow the campground hovers ~70° even though it's at least 90 just up the road. Thomas was super responsive with my questions before booking and Lars was onsite to show us around, answer questions, and help with anything we needed (which wasn't needed, because everything was great). There are the world's cleanest porta potties and an instant-on hot shower which was decadent and wonderful after a hike. The swimming hole is gorgeous, a short hike away, and we also trekked along the creek in the other direction for more fairy tale level beauty. Bring bug spray They are continuing to develop the site, but it's wonderful already with fruit trees, swings, hammocks, grill and sink

We have such a great time camping at this spot. It is right next to a beautiful gorge with a river you can swim in. Easy access to Eel River, just a quick drive away. The hosts were very friendly and the showers and potable water made the experience even better. There were a lot of bees when food was out but they weren’t too bad. Love this place and will be back!

The Hills Have Eyes

We’re still waiting for a response from the host- and we were supposed to camp here a week ago. Tried to touch base about check in time, no one got back to us. When we got there, the property was across a very narrow handbuilt cable bridge with a sign that read “honk before crossing”- to warn oncoming rigs, alert residence or just honk for good luck crossing we never figured out. Risked crossing because there was no where to turn around. Land is someone’s compound- I’m not gonna talk down the country junkyard vibe as a way of life, but they sure don’t represent it in the ad nor the price of the campground. This isn’t a cute camp spot in the woods by the river. This is a wood chip pad between a broke down truck and collapsed building. While realizing all this, no one ever came out to meet us nor were there any signs of life, so we crossed the bridge, honking for the troll once more and got out of there.

Great short stay at Bridge View

Truly enjoyed our stay here and chatting with our Steve, our host. The campground are was very nice and level. We were at Bridge View and had a table, deck and lounger, all in very good condition. The outdoor shower was nice, easy to use after a quick lesson. All of the amenities and common areas were in great shape and well thought out. The Hole in the Wall trail is a short walk from the camp site then is a short walk to the actual site. Very cool to see. The water was a little too cold for us to wade in but we enjoyed the area. Short drive to the Chandelier Tree is a must. The little town of Leggett has a nice market and the drive to Layton offers EV chargers, markets, shops and restaurants.

The folks that run this place are very kind and helpful, and the swimming hole is really, really neat, but if you're looking for a quiet camp spot with lots of room to spread out, this isn't it. The sites are packed together really tightly, and the campground is close enough to the road that the traffic noise is loud and almost constant. There are also dogs on-site that bark whenever someone drives in (very sweet dogs though!) Overall, if you need a place to stay for one night while passing through, this could be a great option right off the 101. But if you want to relax in nature and decompress, you'll likely be frustrated.

Bad and feeling disappointed

We came and I admit we were late but I expect that there was someone there? I hunk as soon as I drove that bridge and drove all the way to the house. My kids and husband was feeling weird and scared of how it looks and even though we stay a bit to see if the host would at least come out and talk to us but nobody came out and at least talk? So we have no idea if we stay or not? And we didn’t want to be rude? We waited quite a while until my husband decided we have to leave and drove out to a different place to finally found a place we could at least camp for a night or so. I do not recommend this place? I reserved this place as soon as I saw it here in this website and seemed at first was ok because I talked to the host before the final date of our reservation. But things turned out to be a disaster for us! I payed for the reservation plus the extra for incase the weather changed or if cancelled? But the question is am I gonna be reimbursed? For what I paid? I came and no one there? At least the host would have come out talk to us while we were there?

It says it convenient to hwy 101 and it is, so close you can hear the traffic which interferes with tranquility but it wasn’t loud enough to interfere with sleeping. The hole in the wall, a short walk away, is a very tranquil and delightful spot. The owner is off site but the resident manager is delightful to have a conversation with.

Overall, the trip was great! Lars was extremely nice and attentive and the river/swimming holes were beautiful! The campsites were a little bit closer together than I was anticipating, but it really wasn’t that big of a deal. The only thing that was really an issue was that there was a tent already set up at the overlook site, but the zipper to the cloth outer door was broken and the screen was completely ripped apart. We had no way to keep out the swarming mosquitos or the bees, so we ended up sleeping in the back of the Jeep 2/3 nights. We tried to duct tape it, but that came apart pretty quickly. They are getting a new tent though, and I think that’s the best one of all the sites, so I’d recommend just making sure they have the new tent set up before you plan to stay at the overlook site.

The photos and description are beautiful. Yet our experience varied greatly. We traveled 3 hours to get here. The host was not reachable when we arrived and failed to ever respond to our messages. We found our campsite that was hard to access with small kids, barely fit our tent and creek access is a steep 40 ft drop - we were not given access to the cooking area Due to host being unreachable the outdoor shower is makeshift bamboo hunt and right behind the communal cooking area. Upon arrival a very unfriendly (caged) k9 was observed near a weed trimming machine and a plethora of dangerous scrap junk. The scene was more like out of “the hills have eyes.” Or “Texas chainsaw massacre” Going to bed was impossible because there was a family of some 20+ intoxicated men fist fighting multiple times, blaring Congo music all night before finally settling in at 3 am. We packed up and left 11 hours into our planned 4 day trip. The only pleasant surprise what the porter potty had 3ply toilet paper.

HARD PASS. Drive through a shanty town right off the 101 freeway into very tight camp sites. Dogs are allowed off leash however the owner keeps his in a pen where they lunge and bark if you walk by for any reason( like to ask them to clean your site of poo.) I paid over 100$ for a canvas tent, unfortunately the bug screen was completely ripped and could not be closed. The listing makes it sound like I would have a view of the river and private cooking facilities on my deck. Not true. The only view is on top of other camp sites and the cooking and showering is communal. By the way, the shower ran out of propane… This place is LOUD the traffic is literally 200 yards from your sleeping and is non stop all night. The owners dogs bark all night . My neighboring campers had to be rousted to love their car ( by the owner) at 9:30 pm because he said campers would be coming in at1:00am. When she protested due to the advertised rules he said”I just don’t care, I have hundreds of five star reviews”. I never met the owner but I did have some interaction with the helper, Lars, who was kind but drunk and forgetful. Honestly, I didn’t feel like it was a safe environment and I didn’t sleep at all.

This was a beautiful spot with lots of river access. Bring a good pair of shoes as the descent is steep. The bathrooms are portable and they were keep very clean. The shower was nice and hot. The camp host were very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area.

Camping with the lovely Helen

A funky little place with good vibes and good folks. Lars was a great host, with a thorough tour of the small campground above the creek. There are two porta potties that are kept very clean, an outdoor shower and a sink for washing dishes. The campsites are a little close together, so recommended quiet hours would be appreciated (including the use of generators on the occasional RV - the noise disrupts the sounds of nature). Don’t be alarmed by the structures and heavy equipment when you first cross the bridge; the campsites are past that and tucked into the hillside above the creek. The campsites are a short hike from the Hole in the Wall swimming hole and the creek is not accessible from the sites. Our campsite, #3, was just above the creek but it’s down a steep hill and there is a fence for safety. Campsite #5 has a great view of the creek and the swimming hole so next time I will book that one - and yes, I would definitely return! The other campers were friendly and kind and made the experience great. The Hideaway is dog-friendly so a lot of people, including me, had their dogs with them. My dog was comfortable off leash and explored the area and made friends with other dogs. Thomas has great energy and clearly loves the land, Lars takes fastidious care of the amenities. Thank you for a great experience!
