The host is very nice, and a quick responder! 5/5 customer service. This spot didn’t meet our expectations but I don’t think it’s the hosts fault! For us it was way too windy, and in our mind this was a way more private / secluded as the other camp spot is pretty close. Also the power lines were a bit of an eye sore and we didn’t really like the pit for fire. Again, what you see in the photos is what you get. Wasn’t for us, but honestly you might love it!

Despite the wind and rain, this campsite offered such a healing experience. The upgraded windbreak for our tent made the site feel even more comfortable and enjoyable.

I had such a wonderful time at this absolutely stunning spot. The views were fantastic and the neighbors dogs were so sweet. I also had the opportunity to spot some nocturnal wildlife so that was great!

The space was awesome. I slept so well. Dark. Quiet. Yes it was windy but I was sleeping in my car so no issue there for me.
One of the "wild" dogs came by the say hello but was friendly and didn't stick around too long.
The Joshua trees were truly beautiful.
Masons place was easy to find and only a short drive off the paved road.
Would absolutely recommend.

The site is still being developed, and it’s clear that Mason is putting in a lot of effort into making it even better. It already offers some great features like a wind-protected bench, fire pit, outhouse, and picnic table. The wind was gusty, so I’d recommend checking the wind forecast beforehand. We really appreciated the site, and the views were great. We had a visiting dog that was really sweet! I look forward to seeing how the site continues to improve. We’d love to stay here again soon!

Loved the isolation, but extremely windy (my cot went flying lol). The dogs came to hang out at night and in the morning. Nice place to disconnect from the city.

Its wonderful place if you seek escape from city and being chill in nature. It's quite windy place so highly prepare the wind when you pitch your equipment on site.

It was still a peaceful and pleasant journey, though the wind blew quite a bit. If it's a windy day, set up your tent using Joshua trees as a windbreak.

Amazing spot, great views, right in the middle of a Joshua Tree forest. A herd of sheep came through and with them two Shepard dogs who stayed around our site and kept us company, we had a dog with us and they kinda butted heads but it was worth it for having two guardian dogs with us for a late night campfire! Would camp here again. 5/5 stars!

Wild winds (as expected, there’s a wind farm up the valley!) in this stunning spot. We loved camping among the Joshua Trees and going for a bit of walk through them. Easy to find. Toilet was clean and neat. This felt like a nice extension of our road trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Recommend!

This was not our first time at Terra Vivus--we returned for the quiet joy of camping in this isolated stretch of Joshua trees and goldfields. It is only ~1.5miles from a busy highway and just a few more from Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, but you would never know it from the silence and broad views.

This site was perfect for car camping, and was so easy to find with Mason’s directions and the signage! I arrived in the dead of night and woke up surrounded by wildflowers. I would definitely come here again, especially during this time of year.
Not about the campsite specifically, but important to note: I booked this site to break up my drive from SF to SD, but came across some unanticipated road closures that ended up an hour or two to my overall trip. If you’re planning something similar, I would look into road closures so you can be more strategic about how to time your drive.

Absolutely beautiful views and perfect for pups off leash! Loved my stay here with my dog. We went on nice flat walks and enjoyed the plentiful Joshua Trees. I have mixed feelings about recommending it to BEGINNER TENT campers because of the wind. I’m an expert tent camper and was still “blown away” by the wind (ha). But seriously, you MUST stake down your tent in at least 6 places (I did and 2 of my stakes ripped out of the ground) and use your rain fly to protect the inside from flying dirt and debris. It was tough to get a fire started due to the wind but not impossible. If you’re coming out here to sleep in your trailer or other vehicle, the wind is no problem.

It was a time of complete satisfaction from start to finish: a quiet and private space, a beautiful sunset followed by stars that seemed to pour out at night, the pleasant chirping of birds at dawn, and the morning sunlight that melts your body. However, since it can get cold at night, if you are planning tent camping, make sure to prepare well for the cold weather!

This our second time staying here. Mason as always, is an amazing and communicative host. The grounds were immaculate and the skies were clear. Quiet, remote, serene. We are always looking forward to staying again. We will see you again soon!!

Great secluded location. Easy to find and quiet. Some light pollution from Lancaster, but not bad. Count not hear any traffic from the nearest highway.
We paid extra to reserve the entire site. It's worth doing that if you don't want to potentially share a fire pit and toilet with other campers.
I had to search a bit for a tent spot to avoid any hills, but was able to find a good spot. No problems with getting stakes in the ground. It was a bit windy, but not too bad. We didn't have dogs with us, but we got burrs on out shoes/socks...which could be a concern for dogs' paws.
Great clear, friendly and prompt communication from the host, Mason.
Overall, I highly recommend this site if you want seclusion from other campers and people in general, and I suggest paying the extra fee to reserve the entire site.

This site is well maintained (most noticeably the outhouse) and Mason gave very clear, easy directions. It perfectly served my need for a night outdoors. It’s quiet and surrounded by joshua trees. Definitely some light pollution, but the stars were better than in LA!
Be warned that the wind is no joke. Dust got into everything and anything not weighed down got blown all over. However, the firepit is well built so getting and keeping a fire going was no problem.
There are also tons of ants. Not sure what kind, and I didn’t have any issue with them, but there are so many you kind of get itchy just seeing them.
It’s camping, so neither of those were beyond the pale, just sharing the full experience. I would happily stay here again.

Really peaceful and quiet place! Secluded but very easy to find. Beautiful sunset, stars and sunrise. Composting toilet was well maintained. Love the environment!

Remote, private, and beautiful. The sunrises, sunsets and stars were incredible! We had a great time!
Shared the fire pit and had a lovely time getting to know our camping neighbors, Lance and Carlene.
Only thing I’d say is that the desert isn’t kind to pup feet, so if you take your dog stick to the dirt areas and away from bushes and burs.
The place is rustic, but well tended. And Mason is both communicative and kind. We love it!

Wow, what a trip! The campsite was just so beautiful it made me pinch myself every morning to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I mean, who wakes up to such stunning views every day? It was pure magic.
Now, about the wind, yeah it was strong! At times it felt like our tents were going to pull a Mary Poppins and take us on a ride! So, a little heads-up, make sure to pack some sturdy gear. Loved every bit of it, the gorgeous views and the mighty winds! I'd say, if you love a bit of thrill with your calm, then this is the place for you.
