The location was great and more or less private, certainly much more than established campgrounds! It had a few level spots, not really enough for the size of our party, so one of our tents was not level. Seeing the wildlife was pretty cool (geese, turkeys, cranes, snakes, hornets-NOT, Watch out for nest under the swing etc), and fun for our kids to row around in the lake. Areas in the shade were lovely, but some general maintenance should happen a little more frequently than what we experienced. There were a ton of foxtails, cockleburrs and other weeds that we dealt with. The composting toilet didn’t smell fortunately, but it should have been maintained more frequently as it was pretty “piled up”, if you know what I mean, for the amount of campers onsite! That situation improved halfway or so into our stay. The door kept getting stuck/not closing on some of the campers. I think in that respect you “get what you pay for”.
The hosts were very communicative during an uncertain time where we may have had to evacuate due to a nearby fire, and very understanding of our noisy kids (5 yr old and 20-mo old).
They gave us an AWESOME locals recommendation for a most secluded swimming spot (that had wild ripe blackberries on the trail!), which more than made up for the heat at camp. I think maybe in the spring season the area might be much more enjoyable, as it was SO HOT without a ton of reprieve, in the middle of summer. The lake onsite is not swimmable, as indicated on the listing.
