I absolutely loved camping here.. the 360° views are awe inspiring and the simple beauty of the high desert is a beauty if you know how to see it.. the night sky was loaded with stars like bright gems and I'll never forget my stay here. Even though it was cold at night.. January in the desert can be pretty cold at night. I still enjoyed my time here very much and will be happy to come back again! Ashley, the host here at Camp Starfire was wonderful and kind. Thank you for the opportunity to visit California. I enjoyed every moment! .. Joshua Tree park is a short 10-15 minute drive and that is a worthy venture while staying here! Thanks Ashley!

Great alternative to park camping. Loved how quiet and private the site was. It was wide open so wind was a bit of an issue but other than that amazing. Fire ring, nice picnic table and a flushing toilet, what more could you want?? Gorgeous sunsets/moonrise’s in the desert. Would absolutely come back.

Ashley was quick on response. The spot was kinda a weird open yard and it was extremely dusty. Seems like it would be dusty often there! We bailed the 2nd night of our stay to find something better. If it was cheaper it would have been easier to settle on but for camping we were paying a lot at $50 a night. And not as close and accessible to the park as I expected. If you have no other options, go here. If you have other options, go there. Backcountry camping is a better option in the park!

This place was great! The camp site had plenty of space to park our two cars, a tent, the firepit, and a picnic table with lots of extra room for games or anything else. The "outhouse" was cute and very convenient. It wasn't far from Joshue Tree NP and I would definitely come back again. I did try to contact Ashley about four days before the trip and she never got back to me (only negative with the whole trip)

StarFire Campground is an amazing place and Ashley is awesome host! This place has everything you need in your endeavor - convenient location to Joshua Tree Park, tranquility, farm of desert, convenience with available amenities and wonderful starry nights. We’ve stayed 4 nights with our friends here and our conclusion - this is a real gem. Highly recommend to anyone who is planning his visit to JTNP!

Great site, has everything you need for camping in the desert. Fire pit, picnic table, water spout, and toilet were perfect. The landscape is gorgeous and felt secluded, and although the house is in sight there is a large fence and plenty of space separating the campsite and the property so it still feels private. Cell reception at the campsite too is a huge plus!

Had a great stay over New Year’s at Star Fire Campground. The campsite had nice amenities (really warm fire pit, and the flush toilet is a bonus) and thoughtful touches. 20-minute drive from Joshua Tree NP. The view from camp is out at the mountains on all sides— beautiful sunsets and stars!

ashley was a very helpful and responsive host! the site was close to a road that nearby cars used so it was not the most secluded spot, but it was quiet and had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. the amenities were fantastic and the campsite was well worth it!

This site was perfect! Such good value for money considering you're the only campsite. The fire pit, picnic table and toilet were great, and there was also little solar lights in the ground to help us navigate in the dark. Plus, the hosts left matches for us, which was thoughtful :-) To give you a sense of isolation, we had a campervan, but with it parked between us and the hosts residence we could shower in the outdoors without feeling like anyone could see us. So great!

This was a nice campsite about 20 minutes from the north entrance to the park. The fence line to another property was maybe 100 yards away but we felt secluded the whole time we were there because we still couldn’t see anyone around. There was a functional toilet that worked perfectly fine. The site had one picnic table and a nice fire pit that kept us warm on a 30-35 degree night! Make sure to bring EXTRA firewood if its forecasted to get that cold. Directions from Ashley were easy enough to follow and all of us camping had cell phone service at the campsite. Ashley was also a great host who would reply promptly whenever I had any questions. Don’t forget to look up because the stars are incredible when the moon isn’t shining too brightly.

When we arrived, it was after dark and later than we expected. The address was accurate - we saw the "<-- camp" sign pointing the way. A dirt road led alongside the residence and then we saw faint little lights lighting the way to the camp site! With a picnic table, a fire pit, and a little wood we were setting up guided by the moonlight (and our lantern). It was secluded, quiet, and we slept well. We didn't notice the lit water spigot until the morning. The outhouse was resource-fully built, clean, and had a flush toilet and hand sanitizer.
The valley view was great, just what we were looking for to relax, cook, and look at the stars. We stayed in November so it was 40° at night, 4 blankets was enough!
This site us a good base camp for going into Joshua Tree - through the less-busy North Entrance, and convenient for checking out some of the back country in the less-traveled areas of the park. Sunsets were great around here.

We had planned for a spot in Joshua Tree park but of course all was booked so I jumped on Hip Camp and Starfire showed available so we booked two nights. The place was private and the views are amazing! Our host replied quickly and provided a nice bundle of wood. The bathroom was a short walk but was private and flushed. The fire pit was nice and safe even when the wind kicked up a bit. Overall this is a great place to stay when visiting the park. Thank you so much for a great experience we will be back!!

We had a wonderful experience camping for 2 nights here. Aside from the host, there seems to be nobody else around in the expansive desert valley. The sunset views are spectacular, and we really appreciated the private bathroom and water spout.

Great site!
Quiet & remote, but close to Joshua Tree 29 Palms entrance.
Great for stargazing and close to a restaurant/bar nearby. Very clean toilet, and had soap, matches, firewood, and picnic table available to use. Appreciated the lights along the path for walking back from the toilet.

I quickly booked this place after striking out for finding a campsite inside JT Park, but ended up being so happy I did. The site is beautiful and so comfortable: great fire pit, really nice bathroom, picnic table, remote with plenty of space, running water (equipped with dish soap!), and Ashley was quick to welcome me with a load of firewood. I watched an epic sunset over the valley, stared at stars with no light pollution, listened to coyotes, and overall absolutely loved it. If you’re going to JTree and are open to being outside the park for a night or two, give this site a go!! You won’t be disappointed.

Everything was as expected. Nice secluded spot not far from 29 Palms and Joshua tree entrance. Toilet was clean, spacious, offered privacy, and worked perfectly. Picnic table, bench, fire pit, and potable water were great camping ammenites. (No shade unless you bring a canopy, but had plenty of flat land for tents, cars, canopies, games etc). Very quiet - little to no traffic going by, far enough away from main road where you can't hear cars. Amazing view of the stars!
