Quirky, magical, not for everyone
The campsite is absolutely magical! We had it completely to ourselves on a weeknight in August and really enjoyed the spectacular view and watching whales, bunnies, and quail from next to our tent! The "10 minute walk" from the parking is longer, hillier, and more difficult than I expected, especially for my out of shape self and lugging all of our bulky stuff in a wheelbarrow, and the trail is lined with poison oak. I recommend packing light with backpacking gear instead of car camping gear if you have it. The cooking dome includes a stove (although we didn't try using it) but you'll need to bring your own pots, pans and dishes. Dishwashing and hand washing stations with water are provided. They don't want you to pee in the pit toilet and intruct you to pee out in the open. If that's too naturey for you, this might not be your kind of place. But as impossible as it is to book a site at a public campground in the area, this will be a good option for some. As an added bonus, my 6 year old LOVED meeting the goats and sheep and exploring the garden, and the staff were absolutely lovely to him as he talked their ears off.
