My girlfriend and I spent a beautiful night camping under the stars overlooking the Pacific. Slide Ranch has everything you need for your next adventure. Between the tide pools steps away from our tent, the friendly animals, and secret garden, we had a very restorative time. Highly reccomend.
We have camping gear, not backpacking gear, and we have kids.
We had to make three trips to the car and back — it took us 1.5h.
The site had approximately 11 tents on our first night, so it was more packed than a national park.
Also the grass on site is dead with lots of bare, dusty spots.
Our kid was bitten by a tick within a few hours. We camp to relax, to let kids be kids and roam around. Unfortunately, we had to constantly watch them to keep them from going too close to the bushes or just sitting in the grass.
There is no running water — you have to walk 20 minutes to get water to wash your hands and/or dishes. There is no staff on site during the weekend, and the water is shared by everyone, but everyone waits for someone else to go get it.
We were the only family with kids, so we also had to regularly clean the bathroom, which was constantly covered in urine…
And it's not a cheap site. A simple hose with water would be nice, and this site is not too big to be sprayed for ticks in a county with a higher risk of Lyme disease. Poison oak could also be removed from along the only path to the campsite when it's run as a business.
The ocean view was not worth it for us.
I would say it's a nice spot for one night only, with backpacking gear, with tick spray applied in the parking lot, and with no kids.
I would not rank it too low since all of it is mentioned in some way on the page, but I would still post my experience for some other family with kids.
We loved camping at Slide Ranch! It was peaceful and beautiful and we look forward to coming back! It worked well for some folks to bring their own foldable wagon and we liked packing light and using backpacking backpacks for carrying our gear. Everything was wonderful, thank you!
Overall we had a nice experience. The view was breathtaking. The trail there was a lot more rockier than I imagine, so don’t take that part of the listing lightly and pack as light as possible. There were also way more campers than expected and was hoping for my privacy. I can see how this would be good for other campers, just not for us.
Easy to get to. Gorgeous view of the ocean , very quiet only in other pair of campers. Nice composting toilet, great cooking dome. I will likely come once a year! Shocking to be in the crowded Bay Area and have a prime location virtually to ourselves. Could walk coastal ridge trails and down to the water. Slide Ranch is also a great educational resource, so happy to support the organization!!

So beautiful! Lovely little ranch and it was fun to watch the goats being fed. The lack of bathrooms for peeing was a challenge for the female members of our group. There was also very little shade.

Amazing location! Hands down one of the most beautiful campsites we have visited. We were in the area to fish and found good surf fishing nearby. This site was very well maintained and had some great hiking trails and amenities. I would consider this site a "beginners backpack camping site" rather than a "car camping site". Even with the provided wheelbarrows, it is a bit of a challenging to haul more than 1 load of things in on the hiking trail. Plan accordingly.

This was such a sweet camping spot! We loved cooking in the dome and looking out over the ocean. Definitely recommend bringing stakes for your tent and lots of sunscreen. Would camp here again.
As a novice camper, we couldn't have asked for a more picturesque summer camping experience. The 15-minute hike to the campsite was completely manageable and even enjoyable, but as the instructions clearly state, pack light. My group learned this the hard way as we packed a little heavier than recommended. Luckily, the wheelbarrows were available for us to use, which was a lifesaver for hauling our gear in. The wildlife alone made the trip unforgettable we ran into a family of deer, spotted plenty of quail, and encountered many other lovely creatures throughout our stay. One important tip for future campers: make sure you close the dome door behind you! A camper left it open and a critter got into our trash bag, which was a minor inconvenience but entirely avoidable. Other than that small hiccup, the experience was nothing short of incredible beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day and amazing coastal views at every turn. If you're looking for a breathtaking outdoor getaway that's approachable even for beginners, this is the spot. We'll definitely be back.

Slide ranch is a beautiful space and so much to explore! All our needs were met for basic cooking and bathroom/ water! You can’t beat the location! A few things to note: the campsite is slated for 15 sites and thankfully it was just us and 2 other lovely families but had it been 15 tents it would have been crowded and zero privacy whatsoever which defeats the beautiful nature. Additionally it’s pack in pack out however whoever manages the site did not return the compost bucket so there was so space for scraps at site. Finally and most importantly there is poison oak lining the short hike to the site. It is marked but it is not cut back and despite long sleeve and doing everything to not come in contact with it it is not covering 25% of my body as it is incredibly to just brush off from backpack or clothing onto body so please be aware (and site managers consider cutting it back from trail)

Camping at Slide Ranch was awesome! Fantastic views, clean shared areas and bathroom and a sense of remoteness that's hard to find in bay area camp grounds. i will definitely be back!
Slide ranch exceeded expectations, and we already knew it would be awesome! The views of course are amazing but we also enjoyed the wildlife (fox, deer, quail), and a cold plunge down at the beach during low tide in the morning. Perfect spot to spend the night on our bikepacking tour through Marin!
The view is amazing throughout the hike into the site. Pack as lightly as you can - the trek in is short for a hike but long if you have too many items. Great for families, large field, tide pooling and multiple hikes nearby along with a farm and bone yard to explore.
Beautiful, simple and well thought out. If you are comfortable with walking to your site, hauling out your trash, and using a compost toilet then heaven is your reward. Slide Ranch is a little slice of what life could be if we all lived a simple life. This is a perfect place for peace and beauty.
Amazing views, excellent site. But pack lightly because the walk from parking to site is long and rocky path, so it’s better to avoid bringing many items or heavy stuff. The wagons they provide are really helpful but being a wagon cart if you have one. Loved the beach and tide pools.
Slide Ranch sits in such a beautiful stretch of Coastline. Our daughter loved visiting with the chickens, ducks, and goats- and the gardens are beautiful too. The dome meadow is spacious and the dome kitchen is a cool place to have a meal. All around great site to take kids

My 9 year old and I were first time campers at this remarkable location. It was everything we dreamed of! After a slightly challenging, 15 minute hike with a wheelbarrow provided for our gear we were able to pitch our tent overlooking spectacular Muir Beach. We encountered so many species of wildlife both on our hikes and trips down to the rocky tide pools below. There is plenty of drinking water and soap for handwashing. Loved every moment and would definitely recommend this magical location!
We loved tent camping at Dome Meadow. Cooking was easy in the Dome. Views are beautiful of the ocean. The wheel barrows are helpful for carrying gear down. There are some nice trails down to tide pools, and the goats nearby are charming.
You can’t beat the view from this campsite. While it was hard work carting our gear from the parking lot to the site, we were incredibly grateful for the wheelbarrows provided by the Ranch. My advice: pack as light as you can! We stayed on a Thursday and Friday night and only shared the area with one other family each evening. It truly felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We spotted plenty of deer and diverse bird species on the nearby trails, not to mention all the animals at the Ranch itself. The absolute highlight was visiting the nearby tide pools, where we enjoyed the beauty and sounds of the ocean up close. The Dome at the campground was perfect for food storage and prep. The weather dictated our meals: we ate breakfast and dinner inside the Dome to stay warm, and enjoyed lunch outside at the picnic tables under the lovely sun. Heads up to fellow planners: the Dome has plastic bins for washing dishes and pots. While there is a sink with drain pipes, there is no traditional running water. Instead, they provide large water jugs with attached faucets. The setup also includes four burners for cooking, a kettle, shelves for your food containers (plus extra bins if you need them), and cleaning supplies. We’ve camped all over the country, and this place stands out as one of the most unique and special. We would definitely come back!

The view is exactly what it looks like! It was very beautiful and peaceful. The hike towards the campsite felt more like less than 10 minutes; it was very easy! The dome had a stove which was easy to use as well.
No showers. Just a portable potty, but it was decent and not too dirty. There’s handwashing right out the portable potty which was good!!

The hike is not hard, but you will want to pack light! I was able to enjoy myself with my tent, food, and sleeping gear. The picnic tables and tent with the rainfly off took care of the rest! Absolutely beautiful views. Pictures do not do it justice. Overall, very serene and quiet. Saw a mom and two fawns hopping around on the trails each day. Highly recommend this campsite and I hope to come back someday!

The views from this campsite where amazing. My son and I were able to pitch our tent close enough to the edge of the campsite that we were able to view the ocean from inside the tent. While there were other campers everyone was able to space their tents far enough apart to still feel private. We were able to hike down to explore the tide pools and hike all the way up to the Muir Beach Overlook all on the same day. Mt. Tamalpais is also just a short drive away which was nice.
Outside of the initial messages and directions, there was no contact with the host. This wasn't an issue though because the directions and instructions were clear both in the messages and on signage when you get to the property. Some of the other campers there were friendly and also helped provide some direction as necessary. We didn't get a chance to use the stove in the Dome because we had brought cold lunches but when we went in to store our stuff a young couple had just cooked a meal that smelled delicious. (so it was clear the stove worked)
On one of the nights it was extremely windy so be prepared with some type of ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The following night was totally quiet so it really just depends on the day.

Our 3.5 yr olds first camping experience!! Truly breathtaking. We went with three other families from his class and spent time down at the tide pools. Make sure you try to pack light! You need to bring in your gear via wheelbarrow for 15min pathway up and down but it is worth it! P

The site is beautiful and dome facility for cooking a nice feature. There is a trail down to the ocean front that is beautiful at sunset.
The compost toilet was not working and finding a private spot to pee is a bit of a challenge. Also, there were no lighters for the stove so bring your own lighter.

Amazing location and site - easy hike/walk in from the parking lot.
We loved camping at Slide Ranch! The views - both when foggy and sunny - are amazing. The ranch and surrounding trails were a lot of fun to explore. Some of the goats let us pet them which was great. Beyond the ranch animals, we saw a lot of wildlife - pelicans, hawks, chipmunks, deer, lizards, and most amazingly, a pod of humpback whales! Bring binoculars to better catch the whales breaching. We would happily come back.
