Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. There are over twenty species of wild birds that grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A portion of your fee goes towards protecting native flora and fauna as part of our private wildlife preservation program. A limited number of private, widely spaced camp spots are available for visitors. The Eagles' Nest Treehouse (mentioned above) is very isolated and you may or may not even be aware that there are other people within miles of you. For those who value nature, seclusion, quiet and the artistry of old growth redwood, this is the place for you.

Each spot is limited to 8 people including children. Four campers are included in the listed price, with an additional fee of $15 per additional person per night.  Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring (with grill) and access to a port-a-potty. Bring your own potable water and be prepared to take away your trash. Well-behaved pets are welcome, although please keep them away from our working dogs that are guarding livestock within our pastures. The Eagle's Nest Treehouse offers a secluded and tranquil experience in the middle of a private forest. On some nights, you can see all the stars since the lights of civilization are so far away. And when the wind blows a certain way, you can hear distant fog horns and waves crashing on the spectacular Sonoma coast. Located on a 400-acre working ranch, we are near San Francisco, California's premier wine-growing regions and some of California's most breathtaking seascapes. During the day, you can hike our miles of forest trails and never run into another person. You can check out the flora and fauna residing among the ferns, redwood trees and rolling pasture lands and then roast some of our ranch products, all grown right here, over the barbecue located at ground level. You can also explore the ranch operation, which includes Scottish Highland cattle, goats, ducks, geese and the livestock guardian dogs who protect them all. If you like a really hands-on experience, you can help us herd the ducks in at night or come along in the UTV to help with evening chores.  Think seclusion, privacy, peacefulness and nature.  Securely nestled high above the forest floor between two towering Douglas Firs, the large redwood deck of the Eagle’s Nest is accessed via a spiral staircase and a 40 ft suspension bridge. Once inside, the rich grain of the old growth redwood floor, walls and ceiling is astounding. Residential standards of construction throughout include two sets of 8 ft high French doors, sliding windows, a queen size bed, electricity for lights, separate bathroom, hot and cold water, sink, and an amazing copper-lined shower with floor to ceiling windows looking out on the forest below. A heater and the insulated walls, floor and ceiling keep the interior cozy.

Redwood Camp #1
If you’re looking for serenity and quiet while camping on a beautiful property, Redwood Camp #1 at Salmon Creek Ranch is it. The campsite is perfectly nestled among the redwoods, just steps away from a peaceful meadow — offering tons of privacy and a truly magical setting. We went when it was raining a bit, so an AWD was definitely helpful for getting to the site. Upon arriving at the ranch, we were welcomed by the cows they raise, and as we pulled into the visitor parking area to meet Lesley, we were greeted by friendly geese and goats — such a charming start to our stay! The porta-potty was spotless, and we loved that we could purchase ranch-raised meats right from their mercantile — the ground beef, NY steaks, and skirt steaks all we can't wait to try! Although we only stayed one night, we already can’t wait to go back. This place has quickly become our new favorite camping spot. Clean, quiet campground. Very friendly, communicative staff. We stayed in the Creekside spots. Sites were flat. Easy access to the creek, but you can only see the creek from Creekside #3. I also recommend the duck eggs and goat sausage from the mercantile!

Eagle's Nest Treehouse is truly magical! Lesley was such a kind, responsive, and accommodating host and made everything easy. We loved all the sights and sounds of the Highland cattle, geese, ducks, dogs, deer. We purchased meat and eggs from the ranch and made delicious burgers for dinner and scrambled eggs for breakfast. We roasted marshmallows and made s'mores around the fire pit. The treehouse itself is nestled in a beautiful and secluded wooded area, and is so well-appointed and cozy. I could not have asked for more and can't wait to come back.

Beautiful location in the redwoods and would definitely come again. The fire pit and picnic table were great to have and we loved hiking around the trails and near the creek. Appreciated the advice to have an AWD vehicle for the road to the site.

Eagle's Nest Treehouse Farmstay
Such an amazing experience to spend a night up in the trees. Sleeping in a treehouse has been one of my life long dreams and now we've done it. There's even a full bathroom up there!! Recommend to bring eye mask if you are a light sensitive sleeper as the place is almost 80% windows.

Beautiful Hideaway for couples! The treehouse was built so lovingly and showcased the gorgeous forest. There are great trails to walk and it's so very private! Our hosts were wonderful!

Redwood Camp #3
Loved this spot! Such a treat to be able to camp here. We spent the last weekend with a group of friends here. The highland cows greeted us upon arrival. Campsite 3 offered great shade and close proximity to the porter potty. The ground beef and duck eggs were amazing. Would recommend and hope to return soon!

Redwood Camp #1
We've been camping at Salmon Creek Ranch for years. It's always fun experience. The camp sites are well maintained and we really enjoy walking on the trails. The bathroom is clean and convenient. We also like to check out the mercantile for extra firewood or duck eggs. You can't beat how quiet and beautiful the land is at night. The sky is absolutely incredible too, you can see every star. Our 4-year old has come with us for three years now and also has so much fun adventuring around the ranch.

Hard to find. Primitive site.
Creekside Camp #2
Hard to find the campground. Need to turn on Bodega Hwy to get to Salmon Creek. Gate not well marked and says no trespassing. Full disclosure that this is a primitive site would be nice…no trash bin, single porta potty for 3 sites, no running water (even just to wash dishes), and hike up to Farm itself is very hard for little ones so didn’t make it which was disappointing. Kids had a great time running around but could have easily been better.

We loved camping on John and Lesley’s beautiful ranch. Creekside 2 was flanked on both sides with trees which made it even more private. The hosts were very attentive and we enjoyed buying our duck eggs and meat from their mercantile. Love this camp!!!

Like a portal into another world

Redwood Camp #1
This stay was just lovely all around. Although it's less than 2hrs from SF, the property feels like another (more peaceful) world. Salmon Creek Ranch has varied and beautiful terrain, a welcoming and kind vibe, and cute campsites that are secluded and well maintained. We stayed in Redwood Camp #1 which is very shaded. We drove in with a 4x4 pickup which was perfect for the rugged terrain/roads. There are at least 3 good areas to pitch a tent on site #1. Highly recommend getting some sausage and eggs on the way in - they made for a delicious, locally sourced breakfast. Oh - and the stargazing opportunity is top notch! We hope to come back and to explore many of the trails and roads, rope swings and other hidden treasures of the property.

The drive in was amazing -- passing tons of ducks and cows and a goat party on the way in. It was truly a very special and sweet place with tons of Redwoods and spaciousness. We saw the Milky Way while laying in the meadow. The people who run the place were thoughtful and helpful and clearly love what they are doing. Love Love Love

This was a nice little spot along the redwoods with a picnic table and fire pit, and the trees provided privacy from the adjacent sites. Since the creek side spots are accessible from the road, we were able to arrive late after bioluminescent kayaking on Tomales bay. The host was super responsive, gave clear directions, provided a map, and checked in on us to make sure we made it alright!

Nice, large spaces with ample wildlife experience opportunities, lots of bird song and even one night, a screaming mountain lion!. We were a bit surprised to have never been personally contacted by the hosts, a first in my Hipcamp experience. Sadly, the solitude is greatly disrupted by a very nearby temporary bridge that sounds like fireworks every time it’s driven over, and it is driven over a lot more often than one may expect. One Portapotty for three campsites quickly proves to be insufficient. There’s lots of opportunity for hiking and exploring, and the creek is lovely. It’s fun hike up tovisit the ranch and see the goats, cows, geese, etc. It’s a short drive from Marin and Sonoma Counties, which was very attractive to my group. All in all, once the bridge situation is resolved and if more portable toilets are provided, my group might return.

I spent two nights at campsite #3. No other campers around. The site is basic open space. All the campsites in my area were next to the road. During the day there were cars going by. There’s a bridge close buy and it’s loud when the cars go on it. The spot is very peaceful otherwise and the stars are abundant at night. The porta potty was clean and not too far. There’s lots of poison ivy surrounding the campsites.

This is a beautiful spot tucked away among redwoods. We had nice shade and a good amount of space for 3 tents. It was easy to find from the directions. We would go back!

A slice of redwood paradise

We absolutely loved camping at Salmon Creek Ranch! John and Lesley’s property is a magical piece of land and them sharing it with others really warms our hearts. They were incredibly hospitable and we got to meet John on our second evening. Really kind and caring folks! We stayed at Creekside 3, which was a nice distance away from sites 1&2 (this was our younger dog’s first week of camping so wanted to ease his anxiety) but still very close to the bathroom and trail to the creek and hiking. It’s a beautiful spot with a private little trail that leads to a flat deck to relax or camp on as well as a trail down to the creek. Once we settled in, we started exploring a bit across the creek where the redwood sites are and we were totally blown away. It’s a dreamy redwood grove with sites spread out so each site has privacy and can enjoy solitude. There’s also a huge meadow perfect for star gazing (will stay at one of these sites on our next visit). We didn’t have time to hike the rest of the property or buy some goodies from the mercantile shop this time, but we plan to go back soon!! Highly highly recommend.

Secluded. Beautiful. Nice and cool for good sleep. Host was responsive through text. Had 0 issues... id like to come back honestly... kinda pricey compared to others.. but I really like the area. Just make sure you come prepared. Not alot of options for supplies near.

This campsite was such a great experience! It’s beautiful and well maintained. Easily accessible with a regular car and pet friendly! The creekside campsites #1 & #2 and back to back but there are beautiful redwood trees to create a barrier, and everyone was friendly! The portapotties were exceptionally clean! And we saw deer and a baby fox.
