Roni's property is conveniently located with awesome views. I was able to pull my van in on the level parking spot and enjoy the sunset. I will be staying here again the next time I'm in Joshua tree.

We've stayed at Roni's site multiple times over the years, and it never disappoints. It's perfect for those who want to visit Joshua Tree but don't enjoy the chaos of crowded campgrounds. It's also easy to get to and close to stores and restaurants while still giving off a nature vibe. There are homes in the area, but it's been quiet every time we've stayed.

Place was right off freeway and close to Joshua Tree NP, so convenient. Traffic noise was noticeable all night. I would not stay here for the place itself, but rather for convenience. Beautiful sunrise.

This was exactly what we were looking for as we passed through Joshua Tree. It was quiet, especially compared to camping in the park. Right around the corner from the entrance. A great spot to spend the night and admire the stars!

There is nothing "paradise" about this spot. The first picture you see on the site shows a Joshua tree and rock alike in the park. The spot itself is just barren. Also, waking up by the traffic from the road below early morning is not what makes me think about paradise. The only thing I liked about this spot is the availability.

Nice place to set up a tent or sleep in the car/camper for the night. It’s not great for a true camping experience and I wouldn’t want to hang out there for very long. It’s a real bummer you can’t have fires too. The view was nice though. We had a problem where another group was at the site when we arrived at about 8:30pm. We were able to contact the owner and their reply was quick. They let that group know that they were in the wrong site. However, we ended up sharing the spot with the other group since we had no real authority to make the leave. The owner doesn’t live in town and only talked to the group on my cell phone. A gate with a combo lock to the property might prevent these problems in the future.

Great view and easy access to everything Joshua Tree has to offer. Site is as described and directions to the site were clear. GPS will send you to a different area if you don’t follow the directions given by the host. Site was private. Will stay again when back in Joshua Tree.

A wonderfully secluded piece of land just off the highway. The stars were amazing as well as the sunrise the next morning! Plenty of room to park the truck and set up the tent.

Super great! Husband and I found this after getting to Joshua Tree and finding out all the campsites in the park were full (to be expected) Super easy to find, pretty secluded and we loved how we felt like the only people around (even though we were close to civilization lol
Only thing to note is there is no restroom, but that is not a big deal if you have bags/wipes with you. We loved this site and would recommend it to anyone!

Primitive paradise was perfect, private, secluded but also close to JT and coffee, food, gas, and supplies. I felt very safe and enjoyed my stay, the sunrise and sunset was beautiful! Roni was very quick to respond and very helpful with directions on the location! Would highly recommend!

We couldn't find a spot in Joshua Tree so we booked this spot. Amazing experience. The wind wall helped keep the sun off us in the morning. Great view of the stars without feeling too close to town.

Full disclosure, I reserved this in a pinch when I couldn't secure a site within Joshua on recreation.gov, but I ended up finding the first-come-first-served (FCFS) sites within the park mostly available (late August at 4PM on a Friday). So, I actually didn't spend the night at Primitive Paradise. But, I did stop at PP before heading to the park and got the gist.
It's as advertised. It's a single dirt parking spot a few hundred feet off the main road with space to pitch a tent and a wind break. No other amenities. The pros are the absolute certainty of a place to stay and the proximity to services (food, gas, etc.). That's it. Given this, in my opinion, $25 is overpriced. But, it's an option.
For those in a similar situation, I would check with the ranger at the entrance for FCFS sites as they seem plentiful (if the right season), use the park's back country sites as a fall back (equipment and convenience not withstanding; they don't look like epic treks to the site), and then it's a toss up between PP and a Walmart parking lot. 🤷
