This is an incredibly historic site in Santa Barbara history. 2 tribes of Chumash Indians lived here for 10,000 years. This is where Spain landed and began colonizing the area. In the 1950's and 60's, this was the site of the World's largest orchid farm. There is a book called The Royal Rancho, if you are a history buff. We are a farm on the beach just North of Santa Barbara and Goleta, Ca. You will camp in a historic, glass greenhouse with incredible ocean views. Inside is a cob pizza oven that works awesome. (Bring your own firewood),,, a place to pitch tents and tiny artistic structures to explore. You will have a private bath and shower (Primitive, no electricity, but the hot shower has the best view in the world of any shower!) Bring your own toiletries and whatnot. Private beach access from our property. We have a barnyard with a multitude of farm animals. Limited electricity in greenhouse (A couple of extension chords). The fire ban is ONLY for open campfires. The pizza oven and YOUR bbq or propane flame is fine. If you are camping during the rain, be advised, it gets wet in the greenhouse. It's an antique after all!$200 base price is for two people. All additional  day or night campers are $75 a day/night.   *****LOOK***** BE ADVISED, at times, the property has events with upwards of 100 people. These events are not in your space, nor near you, but you will see people walking around and will hear music in the distance usually from 3 pm until 10:15 pm. What a magical experience and stay! Great for families, brought our two little ones and they loved the animals, the stars, the passing trains, and the private beach. Pizza oven was a hit! The girls loved making pizza and watching it cook. Also loved exploring the various greenhouses, we left inspired for our own home garden. Appreciated the fresh drinking water and running water for washing our dishes and showering after a day at the beach! Beautiful sunsets and moon rises. The lighting in the greenhouse at night was so cozy. Kept our food closed up in a snap lid bin (especially at night) had hungry visitors like raccoons and mice sneaking around. Overall, fantastic weekend!

We loved camping here, the greenhouse was beautiful and peaceful and the beach was gorgeous too! We saw dolphins & seals, would love to stay here again

Everything about this place is magical. Camping in the greenhouse was perfect for us to help contain two toddlers and a dog, as well as giving us a beautiful, private place to relax. We loved cooking with the pizza oven. Bring a cast iron skillet! It was great to be able to walk to the beach, and even have it to ourselves most of the time. We hope to be back!

This place has a very special energy. We brought our little travel trailer, but the real magic is in the greenhouse (you can camp in there!) and the private beach. Quiet and absolutely stunning, we would definitely come back and bring more family. It’s so special that we want to share it! Thank you to our gracious hosts and for letting us know about the launch. It felt like a private Oceanside flyby!

This place is a true gem!!! There’s lots to do and see, just on the property! Greenhouses full of plants and character. Farm animals. Beach. We even heard space X launch. Lots of room to set up camp. Completely private. The private Beach was a short walk away on this beautiful property. It was such a relaxing, cozy atmosphere for our base camp to the Channel Islands! Definitely want to visit again!

This was my second time to this magical property. My gf and I brought a little sun shelter to pop up on the beach and hardly saw another human on it the 3 days we were there. It’s stunning and the light breeze makes it feel like paradise. For those folks confused about the tar…it’s all mother-nature, peeps. The surf is hard here and the tar is plentiful, so bring your old shoes if you want to keep your feet pristine, or just let your feet get black and spend a few more moments scrubbing your feet in the beautiful private-yet-outdoor-shower that looks out over blooming succulents, wild horses (okay, just regular horses, but…they’re in a big lot, running around), and the ocean beyond. The greenhouse is a wonderful place to draw, read, cook, lounge…and again, gaze out at the sea. If I could win the lottery, I’d offer the owners whatever they wanted, but for now…buying a couple of days in the most beautiful spot in California, will have to do. If I have any complaints, it’s that the resident kitty, Milo, only came for a quick and transactional head rub and had other things to do. Please let him know that he can step up the love, a little. No tip for Milo.

Beach camping in the greenhouse

Such a great experience. Enough protection from the wind to make a February camping trip very comfortable. Beautiful location and several spots to sit and enjoy the sunset over the beach. The property is amazing , we enjoyed feeding the goats, chickens, alpaca, and pig.

The private beach farm was spectacular !!! The greenhouse was perfect to pitch a tent - make a pizza and spend some quality family time. The barnyard was extra special as well !! A quick walk to the private beach with the picnic table and shelter was super terrific !!!! It was extremely hot this weekend- but stayed pretty cool at the greenhouse and perfect at beach. The farm is just far enough away from the city lights to see all the stars and milky way !!!

Our little beach farm adventure fully fulfilled our dreams: An idyllic location with the charm of good old times, undisturbed adventures at the beach, goats & chickens that excited our daughter, and romantic evenings at the campfire. I want to especially highlight the unique romantic spirit of the green house. Initially, we were impressed by the enormous variety of the plants and the sheer size & variety of our private camping location. The initial setup is as inspiring as the many photos in Hipcamp suggest. The real charm of the location unfolds once you get settled, have set up your tent, and spend the first evening cuddling at the campfire. All the little items in the greenhouse give you the feeling to be part of that little hippie community that must have once lived here. You absorb the harmony that so many people (and especially the initial community) felt at this place before. This place is truly an authentic escape. Beyond the green house, there are so many things to do on the farm and around it. We spent a lot of time feeding the animals, we discovered AirBnBs & skate camps nearby, we dug deep at the beach, and we had amazing hikes in the nearby neighborhood. Only limitation (-1 star): We found numerous broken glass pieces in the green house and therefore needed to train our daughter to continuously wear shoes. In addition, there are numerous nails that stuck out at the wall of the shower. It would be great if the owner could address these safety concerns.

This property is so unique and private! There are some incredible views. The farm animals were a fun experience the sunsets were incredible. Unfortunately, the green house you sleep in has a lot of critters (rats, ants, spiders) and the private beach smells like tar (we got tar on our bodies and bathing suits that were very difficult to remove). Swimming in the ocean was something we were most looking forward to. This hipcamp cost a group of 6 over a thousand dollars for 2 nights. That’s a significant amount of money- so these are some things to consider!

Amazing spot! Your own private greenhouse that we cooked in/made breakfast and dinner in. There is a beach down the trail road which is beautiful. There are farm animals enclosed nearby your greenhouse and there is a bathroom/shower for your personal use. Really amazing trip I highly recommend!

Such a special, beautiful place with kind and gracious hosts. Perfect for family adventures, especially with young kids. The goats, chickens, alpaca, and pigs are so fun. The beach is just a short walk away and the ocean can be seen from the site. Had a great time!
