Sheryl and John were super hosts. They were kind and informative and gracious. They even brought out some s'mores for us to roast on the first night. They were curious about all of us and we had some fun and funny conversations. They provided us with ample firewood and we are also able to leave them with our trash and recyclables which was helpful.
It ended up being a great trip, though upon arrival the site wasn't what we were expecting. It was much more like camping in someone's backyard than in a remote setting or even a campground.
I think there are two things that would have really made a difference in our stay...
The first is a fire pit in the hipcamp area. We had to leave the area where our tents, kitchen. and chairs were set up to go to the communal fire which was right outside our hosts back door. As I mentioned before they were super accommodating but it was hard to fully relax knowing that we were right next to their house and in their space.
The second thing is a bathroom option. Since the site is literally in their backyard I can understand why they don't want people digging catholes, but it's super rare even when backpacking to have to pack out your waste. I think if catholes aren't permitted then it would be appropriate to provide some kind of bathroom alternative. We ended up bringing a bucket and some sawdust which worked out okay, but truth be told it was pretty inconvenient given that this was a car camping situation.
Overall we had a good time and are grateful for the hospitality of our hosts and their family.

We stopped by Sheryl's ranch on our way down to Joshua Tree. It was a perfect stop with the kids. We really enjoyed the animals. Sheryl was very responsive.

John and Sheryl made our visit to the ranch life of Central Coast Templeton a cool and rewarding visit. With many ranches around this area, this is a good environment for their kids to grow up in. THEY learn responsibility and strive to do it well.

The directions were super easy and straightforward. I arrived and was greeted by the host. As of right now, they are only accepting RVs, motorhomes, vans, trailers since there is not a toilet available on the property for camper use.
I set up behind the barn, near the fence where the horse would come by and visit. I made a bon fire in the fire pit in their back yard and watched the sun set. The sky was so clear that I could see the milky way when the stars were out!! So cool

This is such a beautiful spot. I wanted to find a safe and gorgeous location since I was camping by myself. One night I sat at my campsite and was completely content listening to a chorus of distant goats, a couple of horses, some frogs and a rooster serenade the sunset. The farm has great big trees that are perfect campsites. I’m the morning I watched some birds make a nest while drinking coffee. The owners are fabulous people. I’ll most certainly come back again.

Wow! This site was even better than we expected. The host was friendly. We saw them during check-in, and not again during our two days stay until we waved goodbye.
There were several sweet spots to choose from on the owner's land. We put our tent under a gorgeous tree that kept the morning sun from us, allowing us to sleep in when we chose.
Morro Bay was a 15-20 minute scenic drive from home base. During the middle of the day, we ate at the pier, walked our dogs on the beach, and did some freelance work from our inflatable couch in the beach parking lot (it was big and not too crowded, even on a weekend day).
The cool breezes and plentiful shade, sounds of birds playing and horses in the distance, and just the epic beauty of the land really made our stay unforgettable.
We got great solar on our panels too and excellent wifi/cell coverage.

From the field in which we parked our small trailer, we had a lovely view overlooking oak dotted pastures. There were farm animals nearby, and an occasional grazing deer. We had plenty of privacy. The location is close to many wineries which we throughly enjoyed. We visited the area to attend an event on the SLO campus which is only 25 minutes away. The area is lovely, the host and hostess gracious, and there is plenty of fun stuff to do. We will return again.

We loved staying at Pioneer Home Farms over Memorial Day Weekend in our 34 foot Airstream trailer! Sheryl and John were incredibly responsive, friendly and welcoming. The property is beautiful and peaceful - you really feel like you're out in the country, even though you're only 10 minutes away from downtown Atascadero and 25 minutes from San Luis Obispo. We felt right at home and will definitely be coming back next time we pass through the area!

John and Sheryl were great hosts, and made our stay very enjoyable. The pasture is huge, and provides ample space for the three groups that were there over the long weekend. The field is open and sunny, fenced on all sides with a secure gate to the property. Large oak trees provide shade, and the tall prickly grass is mowed over most of the field. It's pretty easy to access, even in a small car with low clearance. Lots of farm and nature sounds abound, so if you don't plan on rising early, bring your earplugs. Enjoyed talking around the fire pit up by the main house, and had a great time doing some wine tasting across the road at Wild Horse. Templeton is also super cute. All great surprises that we had the pleasure of experiencing without any idea we would find them here. Lucky for us we were late securing spots in Cambria for Memorial Day weekend!

Our family of 5 had a great time staying at Pioneer Home Farms. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, providing freedom to park where we desire and water hookups. Their children were very hospitable and invited our children to jump on their trampoline and roast marshmallows in their fire pit, but also gave us privacy to do things with just our family.
There are not may campgrounds in the Paso Robles area, and the RV parks are expensive. 20 minutes to SLO, 30 minutes to Morro Bay or Cambria, 45 to San Simeon or Avila.
Templeton is a cute town that has multiple family owned diners, Trader Joe's, city park, and a farmers market every Saturday. Paso Robles has a Target, supermarkets, gas stations (RV dump at Valero for only $10!!!) and many fast food establishments.
Perfect spot for our family!!!
