Moonlight Camp - Minutes from JTNP!
We got to the site right as the sun was setting, which made for gorgeous views! The site would benefit from trash barrels and some upkeep of the fire pits.

THE STARS!! The most peaceful, private and beautiful desert spot I’ve ever seen!! Just an amazing property!! Mark, the host was a bit difficult to get a hold of, but he did say he is having some issues retrieving messages. The site was simple enough to find. Would go back in a heartbeat if given the chance.

Moonlight Camp - Minutes from JTNP!
For the price, this site was just fine. It was literally a corner in the desert, where there were a few fire rings set out. It met the needs of my friend and I, even as we arrived in the dark and had to leave very early the next morning. It's a primitive site, but the views and stars are pretty incredible.

Moonlight camp was an amazing campsite. Totally off the grid and full of peace. If you like primitive style camping moonlight camp is the place to go.

Great place, especially for the price. Note that you will be camping very close to a loud Ambroy Rd. That is the only negative if this place though. Great place, great price!

Great view of the stars. Was a place to pitch our tent which was all we needed, and an easy short drive to the Joshua Tree entrance

We tent camped at Moonlight Campground from March 26 to 27 while visiting Joshua Tree N.P. It took us 20-25 min driving from Oasis Visitor Center to the campground. Campsite host Mark Andrade provided clear driving directions on website and detailed directions, tips, and important landmarks through text messages. He always replied to texts promptly even though we've never met in person. The campground itself literally had no service so there's nothing to complain about. There was a fire ring which we enjoyed. Although some people had made ruts on dirt roads, we were still able to drive over them with our Hyundai Elantra. The ground was smooth for sleeping, the other three campsites were spaced out far enough for privacy, but also close enough to not feel desolated in the wide open desert. The camp is located right next to Amboy Road, but the traffic sound didn't bother us at all. The sunsets and stars were wonderful. Make sure you stock up on gallons of water and bring trash bags. Bring a table and camping chair for comfort.

Unfortunately, I was not able to make it out to the site but leading up to the trip, Mark was very helpful and clear giving directions, even sending pictures of the site for extra clarity.

Very detailed description of how to get to the campsite. There was a nice fire pit and plenty of space. It's a great hipcamp if you're looking to travel on the cheap and aren't picky about amenities. Joshua Tree and towns are just a short drive away!

Nice, private spot perfect for camping. Next to a busy street so you can hear cars passing by occasionally but didn't bother us much. Highly recommend!

This Hipcamp was exactly what we were looking for, secluded and beautiful.
It’s worth noting that while this is close to the National Park, that does not mean close to town. So bring everything, remember shade, and you will have an amazing time!
If you get firewood in town, the locals sell great wood but it burns fast and the wood we got from a gas station burned longer. A mix of both would have been great.
Prepare to listen to wildlife, enjoy amazing sunrises/sunsets, and get back in touch with yourself.

I liked the campground a lot, cheap and open space. There are 3 small cottages in semi close proximity. Far enough for privacy, close enough for peace of mind if that makes sense. I heard coyotes every night and that was just magical. Woke up to rain one morning and ended up getting stuck in the sand and had to call a tow truck but it made for a great story to share. I'd probably shy away from this campsite in the winter months due to this. Other than that I had no complaints and it was actually quite pleasant there.

Great spot only 20min from the national park entrance. The proximity to the road made it a bit loud when some cars passed but nothing to lose sleep over. The camp sites were nicely spaced out so we didn't feel like we were listening in on other campers' conversations. Mark provided very detailed directions which made getting there very easy.

Great campsite - very beautiful setting and the campsites are well spaced out so you have privacy. The property is right along Amboy Rd which is a fairly busy road (something we didn’t realize bc we’ve never been here before). Also, we really liked being in Wonder Valley but it was farther away from 29 Palms/Joshua Tree than we expected. Finally, this is definitely indicated in the listing but it’s worth noting that there is no water at the site - the closest water we found was at the Joshua Tree Visitors Center in 29 Palms.

Moonlight campsite was fantastic!! Site was easy to find and was perfectly located for day hikes in Joshua Tree.
The campsite is beautiful and gave us a wonderful spot to watch the meteor shower. I will definitely be booking again next time I want to come back to Joshua Tree. I totally recommend this site!

This campground was definitely better than my friends and I expected. It was easy to find, right off an easy to find dirt road. Definitely a primitive location and the stars were so bright and of many. I was even able to see the Milky Way and shooting stars. The campsites and fire pits are of decent distance from each other, far enough for some privacy but close enough to make friends with your neighbors. And Joshua tree national Park is not a very far drive either. Great place for some real tent camping.
