Flat Rock Campsite #4
Rugged and remote location with lots of space to explore. The old dam is super cool. I spent two nights there and had fun adventures. Hosts are very cool with an interesting backstory. The dirt road is pretty steep in parts, so you gotta know what you're doing with a heavy vehicles.

We loved our night at Carlotta’s place. It all started with a fund ride down off roading (bring a higher car) which the kids loved, then she upgraded us to a bigger site with a decent outhouse. The highlights were definitely the privacy, the swings and the awesome hikes around the property. Would definitely recommend, especially with a nice host like Carlotta!

Great location - less than an hour from San Diego, but you feel much further. Tons of stars at night and we couldn't hear any noise from the other sites. Road in isn't bad if you have some clearance and AWD/4WD. Would happily stay again.

Really beautiful spot with friendly, accommodating hosts. We stayed at the Dam site and felt completely secluded. It was a warm day but the site has a big shaded area so we were very comfortable. There was an outhouse as expected and it even had a nice view. The hosts were kind enough to even leave us water for dousing the fire and a trash can. This is not a glamping situation at all, but it's exactly what we were hoping for and expecting when we booked it! There are many historical sites and features that we didn't have time to check out this time but are looking forward to seeing on the next trip. Only word of caution is that the road really is pretty rough to get in. You definitely need reasonably high clearance and we were glad to have 4WD on the way back out, although you could probably get by with FWD. Normally I think people overstate this in reviews but I really don't think you should try to access this site in a sedan or low-ish crossover. Not a complaint, just a heads up.

Loved this spot! We did combo truck/tent camping and enjoyed a lovely weekend hosted by Carlotta and her 2 dogs. Hollow was the dog to stay with us practically the whole weekend and led us around the property while we explored. She also watched over us at night and had our backs throughout our stay. This is a great spot for beginning campers looking for a step up into a more secluded camp, we recommend bringing friends and enjoying this awesome nature rich spot. We definitely plan on coming back!
P.S. the drive in is a rocky dirt road, we recommend only bringing higher sitting verticales: trucks, jeeps, SUVs, etc.

The property is beautiful, natural Southern California foothills with tons of wildlife. All I could hear was the wind and the birds, and lots of them! No noisy neighbors and it was wonderful! Carlotta was a great host, and I’m thankful to her and Richard for making their property available to others to enjoy. They provided well water, privacy and a beautiful landscape with lots of lovely trails to trek. The road in and out is a bit harrowing, and I’m glad I had my AWD Subaru. I want to come back again soon, and hopefully with more time to explore the little town of Descanso down the road. Download your maps before you leave because there is no GPS or cell service. Ahhh…

Carlotta and her husband were so incredibly hospitable and helpful during our stay. My group of friends had a wonderful time cooking, listening to music, and going on nature walks throughout the property. I would absolutely recommend King Creek Campground, especially to those with a large group. We will absolutely be back - thanks again Carlotta!

Wonderful. secluded, quiet spot! The host showed us a great little hike to watch the sunset. Tons of shade, so even with the heat it stayed cool. The pups are super cute and fun bonus.

This place was amazing! The hosts are very accommodating and the property is beautiful. I am looking forward to camping here again. I would recommend an AWD vehicle to get to the location. The hosts’ dogs are very sweet. The location has so much to see and all the camping spots are situated far away from one another so you still have privacy. You are also near the town of Julian so I’d recommend grabbing a pie for the campfire at night. I am looking forward to camping here again. 10/10 recommend.

The site was beautiful and very private. Carlotta was exceedingly kind and helpful; She provided us a few gallons of water for bathing and cleaning our stuff, and was very willing to help us with any issues. I couldn’t recommend the site more. Her pup, Benny was a great addition to the trip as well.
Make sure you have a vehicle with decent clearance for the drive in. A road car would not be a happy camper… pun intended.

We had a great time here! We had a large group and stayed at The Meadows Campgound.
Carlotta and her husband were very attentive and accommodating. They gave us specific directions and met us at the gate to provide maps and information about the camp grounds. We were guided to our site and provided with water. They refilled our water when we needed it and also we’re kind enough to get us some firewood from around the camp. The road was a little rough so keep that in mind! There were plenty of areas to walk around. We had kids and babies. The night sky was stunning and we even saw a meteor shower. There are lots of critters, but we brought some stuff to put around our tents to keep the fire ants away. I loved that we didn’t have service and we got to unplug while we were there. There is emergency Wi-Fi at the hosts home but we didn’t need it. There wasn’t water in the creek when we were there, but that was kind of nice because it meant less bugs and mosquitoes. There was lots of shade under the oak trees, and the poison oak was easy to avoid. I would definitely recommend this campsite!

We had a great time at Kings Creek Campground!
We had a large group and stayed at The Meadows site.
Carlotta greeted us at the gate and gave us extra maps for group members arriving in other cars. She was very attentive and communicative. Her husband guided us to the site so we’d know exactly where to go.
The campsite was very nice. They had water jugs already there for us and let us know if we need more they have it available. They showed us poison oak and areas to avoid. They also showed us areas we could walk and explore. They were very accommodating and even brought us extra fire wood.
We got to see a meteor shower on our second night. The wildlife and scenery was fantastic.
We had small children and babies and the campsite was perfect for us.

Highly recommend staying at King’s Creek! Carlotta is a super welcoming host and the property is absolutely gorgeous. Miles of dense chaparral, local flora and fauna, all not too far from San Diego proper. The Meadow campsite is spacious, shaded, and very idyllic.
One note: please take her instructions about your vehicle seriously and be sure to read the advice on driving out before you leave. The road down to the camp is not suitable for low profile vehicles and she gives ample details to avoid any issues with your car.

My partner and I had a lovely weekend at this campsite. It was private and had a lot of land to explore. The site had two little tables, two plastic chairs and had a jug or spring water, all of it came in so handy. The fire pit was large and got a lot of use. Carlotta was very nice and informative and had the cutest dog. The bathroom is not the happiest place on earth but I was grateful there was even one to begin with and it served its purpose. The drive off the main road to the campsite was rough especially leaving but we got through it with some maneuvering. Overall, I can’t say anything negative about the experience and I plan to come back with more friends for more fun.

Great hosts, large, secluded and private campsite. Great for star gazing, and tons of wildlife. Lots of trails to explore in massive lot. Sadly the creek was dried during the summer when we visited but the stay was amazing nonetheless. Would highly suggest offroad capable car for the trip.

Incredible secluded valley. The Meadow campground was a beautiful spot, and the water at flat rock was amazing to sit by. Carlotta was accommodating and supportive, even though I missed her messages and showed up fairly late! Richard even jumped my car when the battery died in the morning.

Carlotta and her husband were great hosts and their land was beautiful. We stayed at campsite #4 - Flat Rock, near the creek. It was so relaxing being able to hear the running water from our tent. Each campsite also has an outhouse which came in handy. I would 100% recommend this campground for all campers. P.S. Believe them when they say you’ll need a truck or SUV to get through the dirt roads. It was quite an adventure getting to our space!

We loved our camping trip! Went with a group of friends and stayed over Memorial Weekend at Lake Campsite. Had plenty of space for tents, parking, and activities— including lots of shady areas.
Bathroom was a pit toilet, well kept and clean. Water was provided in a 5-gal jug (could go up to house to get more) so recommend bringing some extra. Wifi only at the main house, we had 0 service at the site. There was water in the Creek, definitely not enough to swim and we weren’t able to find an area to hangout down by the Creek.
Beautiful areas to hike, hosts were super nice and helpful. Would also add that a heavy SUV struggles to get up the driveway, so be mindful of that with car choices.
10/10 would stay again!

We had an incredible stay and can’t say enough good things about our experience. Carlotta, the host, was absolutely fantastic—punctual, super helpful, and full of great local tips. She gave us a map and recommended some beautiful hikes nearby, which we really appreciated.
The campsite itself was everything we hoped for and more: private, peaceful, and surrounded by lush greenery. The shade from the trees made it extra comfortable during the day. We were a group of 19 people, including kids, and there was more than enough space for everyone—plenty of room for tents, a food area, and even a dedicated space for the kids to play.
Everyone had a great time, and we’re so happy with the whole experience that we’re already planning to come back soon. Highly recommend!

Great stay at the Flat Rock camp location! The creek down below was making relaxing creek sounds all night. I slept like a rock. I was here solo, looking for a night away from the city. This is the perfect place for some quiet stargazing. Carlotta is an amazingly informative and welcoming host. I recommend bringing a high clearance vehicle coming here because that's what the road calls for. I borrowed my fiance's lifted F150. He just showed me how to drive it the day before and I made it down the switchbacks to the camp location. The 1.5mi drive down was an adventure on its own; for me at least. The truck made the journey down an easy breeze. I couldn't recommend this location more. As a San Diego local, this place will definitely become a regular spot for me. Thank you!

Absolutely stunning spot surrounded by oak trees. So peaceful and quiet. Could not hear near by campers. Carlotta was so nice and helpful greeting us to our spot. Very enjoyable and I will definitely return!
