Fall road trips can be a challenge and this spot was perfect. I needed to stop before the mountains because the nights were getting cold. Not only was this an easy, affordable option, but it was gorgeous. I watched the sunrise before heading home.

This spot worked like a charm for car camping during my weekend gem show at the Shasta District Fairgrounds. Restroom with composting toilet was clean and well set up. The barn has a nice "hang out" toom at the back. The site was easy to find and not too far from the fairgrounds, but much more peaceful than staying there would have been.
Overall we had a decent experience but a few little details could change it to a great experience!
The owner's left us alone; we were greeted upon arrival & there was a sign with a phone # if we needed anything/wanted fresh eggs in the morning which was a nice touch. The parking lot was very large & we were told we could camp anywhere we wanted to which was also great.
Places for improvement would be: the barn that is advertised with games, relaxing & even your morning cup of joe was sighed upon once we entered as there were spider webs everywhere-in the rafters, on the seating, the light switch to turn on the fairy lights, the games-EVERYWHERE there were spider webs. Once campers make an appointment it would be nice for them to take a leaf blower in there & blow all the webs out & make it more presentable for guests to actually enjoy. Another nice touch would be having a garbage can out there for guests to have a direct deposit for their trash instead of having to travel with stinky garbage in a camp trailer trying to find a place to put garbage bags. We had this luxury at a previous hipcamp & it made a huge difference.
The dogs in the neighborhood were very annoying. They were not the owners, but to sit outside & hang out under the stars isn't happening w/ these dogs.
There were lots of bushels of pokey stickery weeds that got stuck in our dog's paws & are no good for shorts/sandals.
They did have hose water. We didn't use the hot shower/nice touch though.
Some Hipcamps have specific places to set up tents. This location is broad with plenty of flat space to pitch a tent. Easy location to sleep in your car or trailer. Shade is minimal. We didn't get a chance to explore the barn.

Karen’s place was a little hard to find in the dark but she was very prompt to meet us and show us the way. Didn’t get to take advantage of the barn since we arrived late in evening and it was quite warm outside. Toilet with access to water a plus. Thanks for sharing your farm Karen!
Karen greeted me and showed me all the areas I could park. She was so welcoming and even walked over some snacks which was awesome! The barn was so cute and the bathroom was very clean. The stars at night were incredible and I was able to catch some of the meteor show 😍

For my kids and I, this is our favorite camp. Karen is a wonderful host and you can't beat the barn. Can't wait to go back when it's colder!
Karen's farm was perfect for us. We just needed a last-minute place to stop and camp overnight in our camper van when we were driving south on I-5 near Redding, California. Even though we got there at dusk, Karen met us and said hello to us and made sure we had everything we needed. The meadow that we camped on was nice and flat and it was definitely far enough away from Highway 5 to not hear any traffic sounds. The neighbors were generally quiet so we slept well. We didn't linger because we needed to keep on driving the next morning but we really appreciated the stay.

A great place to set up for a night. I loved the barn and the bathroom (composting) was very functional. There is very little tree coverage when camping, but lovely to see the stars at night!
Beautiful space buffered from the wind by the large trees. A giant open space where others camped as well but certainly had my own large area. Shower and toilet were clean. John was great. So wonderful that I stayed another night!

My family's plans changed last minute and we were just looking for an affordable option near Redding. Happy Valley Roadhouse turned out to be so much more. Karen was very friendly and welcoming and treated my daughters like family. The barn was a great spot to hang out and get out of the wind. Would definitely recommend.
Karen was so nice my kids had fun picking fruit and playing in the barn

This farm is amazing, perfectly situated in the Redding area with a view of Lassen.The hosts were kind and thoughtful. Having access to the barn was Plus, the barn looks like it could be in a wedding shoot. Outdoor shower felt so nice after a long day out in about. The overall amenities far surpass typical HIPCAMP places you'll find . Highly recommend this place.

The farm is in a lovely, quiet location with an ample amount of space for camping. The host was friendly, and there is a nice little hang out space in the barn.
It was a perfect low cost overnight on a long trip north!
Friendly helpful hosts who happily assisted the late arrival of my son to their property. He had such a good sleep in the quiet and peaceful environment. He woke up to the sound of chickens (unusual for a city boy lol) and a horse paid him a visit while he took down his tent. Would love to return if the opportunity arises. Thanks for hosting!

This is a wonderful retreat and Karen is a lovely host! The spot works well as a place to stay as you travel elsewhere, or as a home base to check out the area. Great spot, super cool barn lounge, spacious tent area.
This was supposed to be a quick stop on our way back home from a long road trip. We weren't expecting much just somewhere to sleep for the night. Well we were wrong! This site was amazing.! It had a lounge in a barn that was lit up in fairy lights, a nice bathroom and a wonderfully kind host. We got a bit turned around when we got there and Karen was so helpful and patient. Even though it was late at night. Karen's husband came to greet us when we arrived and pointed out a great spot to pitch our tent. My daughters and I felt so comfortable and safe. We will 100% be coming back here! Thank you so much Karen!
Amazing site! The barn has a communal spot with tables and chairs and the composting restroom is nice as well. The site is a wide, flat field which we easily found a spot to put up our tent. There’s lot of dogs barking throughout the night in the neighborhood - so maybe bring some ear plugs. But other than that, it was great!!

This was my first experience with Hipcamp. Greg and Karen’s Happy Valley Roadhouse is a gem! The property is located in a country neighborhood. The welcome from Greg and Karen and their canine companions was genuine. Their sharing of farm fresh eggs and a thermos of cauliflower curry soup and dog cookies was an added bonus. The views of the Trinity Mountains and Mt. Lassen were marvelous. Great place to camp and enjoy some downtime. I camped in a camper van with my Labrador retriever.
Honestly one of the most beautiful places that Ive stayed the night at. I was car camping and was able to drive right onto the property and park by barn to catch the sun set over the mountains. Also showed up alone but I wish I didn't because the space is perfect to relax and play some board games with friends. The hosts were also extremely kind and made me feel super safe and welcome. Toilet and outdoor shower amenities were also a huge plus and made the stay so much more comfortable. Its in a beautiful countryside area, away from people so you'll wake up to the sounds of farm animals and horses in the distance. Its a deal you cant beat and Im definitely staying here next time im in the area. No complaints from me! Thank you Karen!:)

I had a great night at Karen’s place. It’s easy to get to and makes a perfect stopover for people traveling on I-5. The area is beautiful and she has put a lot of thought into making it welcoming for her guests. Karen’s gift of farm fresh eggs was a lovely bonus!
