A unique private home milled camping cabin designed and built by the host. Tranquility on the edge of a whimsical forest full of Redwood trees, Pines, Oaks, Hemlocks, Rhododendrons, Ferns, wildflowers and mushrooms. The cabin is on our 8 acre property, only about 7 minutes to the historic village of Mendocino. Beaches and trails close by and waiting for you to explore! Hear the ocean waves crashing in the distance, if you listen closely you may even hear the seals chatting. In the spring see the tall brilliant pink rhododendrons bloom. Star gaze at night and listen to the trees talking through the costal breeze while keeping warm by the fire pit, and stay cozy inside the cabin by the mini wood burning stove. Use the tea kettle to brew up a delicious drink to sip. All while making memories to last! WILDLIFE: This is an active bear area. We suggest a bear horn and/or spray. It’s important to keep food locked away and never leave any outside at night. The area is also known to occasionally have mountain lion sightings. Other wildlife in area: foxes, bobcats, raccoons, skunks and possums to name a few.!PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION! Foxfern cabin is a glamping (camping lite) experience in a forest. Hand milled and built by the host. Windows all around and double french doors open out on the deck for views of the forests edge. Enjoy a campfire out doors and the mini wood burning stove indoors. You will have privacy and won't be able to see the main house from the cabin site. Parking is by a trail with less than a minute walk to the cabin. LIGHTING: The cabin has electricity with limited voltage. A ceiling light and an outlet for charging phones and electronic devices. Solar lights are outside along the trail they don't last too long since they are in the forest. We suggest bringing a lantern for the trail at night. BEDS: The loft has a full size bed. There is a futon as well that folds down into a full size bed with attachment. Don't forget your pillow, sleeping bag or blankets! We do not provide bedding. BATHROOM: On the side of the cabins wrap around deck is a composting outhouse kept clean. A portable sink for hand washing only (Not Potable). There is a battery powered motion censored light in the bathroom for night. FIREWOOD: We offer firewood freshly hand cut from our property, therefore it is not completely dry. In the cabin there are instructions on how to build your fire. WATER: Bring your own drinking water. There is no running water. No shower. PETS: Well behaved house trained pets only. Clean up after pets! No pets allowed on the bed or couch. There is wildlife- bears, skunks and more! We have horses, chickens, ducks, cats and a dog, so please always keep dogs on a leash! COMPLEMENTARY: Fire starter sticks, tea kettle, BBQ and Biodegradable TP. MENDOCINO VILLAGE: Only about a 6 minute drive to the charming historic village of Mendocino. Close to beaches. CELL SERVICE: Verizon comes in at the cabin, other phone carriers we are not sure. Wifi in the Village. FULL DISCLOSURE / WILDLIFE: We have a Livestock Guardian Dog to protect our farm animals from wildlife threats such as bears, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes and more. She barks at wildlife, unfamiliar people and vehicles that drive by. She will not be allowed to roam during your stay. You may hear her bark at wildlife! NEVER leave food out! Pack bear horn and spray. ADD ON WEATHER GUARANTEE: During winter and spring storms can occur. To protect our guests and ourselves we require ALL guests to add on Hipcamps WEATHER GUARANTEE to their booking during winter and spring. Weather on the coast changes often and fast. Firewood provided, firepit, wood burning fireplace, private. Fire wood is cut from our land and is the same wood we use to keep our house warm.

Toilet available

Pit toilet. A composting outhouse kept neat and clean. Biodegradable TP provided. Never put feminine products, diapers or wipes in the pit. For obvious sanitary reasons be respectful and keep the outhouse clean. Thank you!

Pets allowed

On leash. Well behaved house trained pets only. Clean up after your pets. Do not leave pets unattended. No pets allowed on the bed or couch. There is wildlife such as skunks. We have a horse, chickens, ducks, cats and a dog, please keep pets on a leash.

This was such a gorgeous and magical cabin tucked away, surrounded by ancient giants. It felt truly remote but still easily accessible to the nearby towns and state parks. Although being quite hidden, it was very easy to find with the signages and instructions. Victoria and Kyle did amazing work building this Hipcamp site and adding whimsical touches around, especially the little fairy door where some friendly banana slugs can be found 🌟 The lodging had all the basic necessities that we needed, and while colder than we expected, the furnace was incredibly useful and kept the cabin warm enough to wear shorts. Definitely make sure to bring extra layers if you're used to the valley weather though!! Highly recommend staying at Foxfern if you're looking to explore the magic of the Mendocino coast :) 💖

Beautiful, immersive, and just outside of Mendocino downtown. Nice escape with proximity. Read the listing closely to ensure preparedness! But highly recommend for a cozy retreat. Hosts were accommodating and responsive.

A balcony into the forest!

My partner, myself, and our two little dogs had the most lovely weekend staying at Foxfern! It is a very unique property where instead of being on the forest floor with the trees it's like you're on a balcony looking out into the forest. Then inside the cabin, the loft elevates you even more, and the view into the forest is absolutely stunning you feel properly amongst the trees. Waking up in that cabin is magical. The hosts were lovely and communicative and all of the instructions were very clear. The area where the cabin is situated is very private and it felt like we had the entire forest to ourselves. So very special for the hosts to open up this special place to visitors. We do hope to be back!

Cute small house cabin in the woods with tons of privacy. Two of us slept here, one upstairs and one on the fold-out futon couch. Outhouse just a few steps away out back was clean with no smell. They ask that you sprinkle saw-dust on the pile after you use it, and that seems to do the trick. Was concerned about letting my child use the restroom after dark after the owner’s messaged about always carrying bear spray outside and the possibility of affairs and mountain lions. Could hear the Mendocino Bay Whistle Buoy inside, but I wear earplugs so I slept through it.

This was beautiful all the way! Sweet spot with perfect fire ring and wooden bench. The cabin was cute, clean and efficient. I had an incredible sleep and was mesmerized by the huge trees surrounding me when I woke up. Hosts communicated timely and very pleasant! Definitely recommend ♥️☀️🧚🏽

Family Memories in Foxfern Forest!

We had an incredible stay at Foxfern! We came to celebrate our 13 year anniversary and the start of our 10 and 12 year old's summer vacation. We booked a professional photography session with Victoria and could not have had a better time. We enjoyed meeting the animals and the serenity of the forest surrounding the little cabin. The kids had fun at the beach and the local bookshop (both just a few minutes drive away), making s'mores by the campfire and playing board games in the cozy heat of the little wood stove in the cabin. The space felt peaceful, private and was the perfect way to start summer vacation and our 13th year of marriage!

we absolutely loved our stay at foxfern. truly one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever stayed in! the intention and detail was so special, all of the windows, and the nature surrounding was surreal. the small wood stove was amazing to keep warm, lots of fun books to read and so much to do in close proximity! we visited cafes, glass beach, hiking trails all so close. the place was perfectly clean and the bed was cozy! i really hope to be back soon and stay longer.

Such a beautiful cabin nestled in the backyard of the wonderful hosts, you can’t really tell that your near people from the cabin with all the gorgeous redwoods basically hiding it and how peaceful and quiet it was. My family absolutely loved it especially my two very young kids, they didn’t want to leave. If you are thinking about doing the petting zoo, do it. The animals are so sweet and afterwards we had a very fancy looking chicken come to the cabin to say hello. I was happily surprised by the outhouse, it was so clean and honestly not scary at all. The wonderful hosts made sure we had enough firewood for our weekend and we loved getting warm by the fire after being on the beach. There’s a small town nearby and a bigger one about 10 minutes away. The skunk train was one thing we did in the town and absolutely loved riding a train through the redwoods and so did the kids. I definitely recommend and hope to be back there someday.

Christmas in a whimsical Cabin

This cabin felt like a warm hug from the moment I arrived. It’s whimsical and magical in the best way,you can truly feel the love, care, and creativity poured into every detail. The space is sooo cozy, inviting, and thoughtfully made. I stayed here during a storm, but it didn’t ruin the experience at all. Even with the power outage and everything happening outside, the cabin stayed warm, steady, and comforting. Kyle and Victoria were incredibly kind and thoughtful, checking in several times to make sure I was safe, which meant so much. They also made the cabin extra special with little, fun details that made it feel festive and Christmassy. That meant a lot to me, especially since I was celebrating Christmas on my own this year. Those thoughtful touches made the stay feel joyful, peaceful, and deeply comforting. I’m deeply grateful for the hospitality and for being able to stay in such a beautiful, thoughtfully created place. This is a stay I’ll always remember :) , and I would absolutely love to return someday!!
