Felton Open Space Camp Sites

Found a perfect spot to pitch my tent (Site 8) on a level , mulched spot beneath towering valley oaks. Fauna (aside from Bode’s constant, assuring presence), included deer, squirrels, raccoons, and some very talkative blackbirds. Felton is a great home base for doing everything the Redwood Empire has to offer: hiking, surfing, music…wine tasting next time, 100%. Lorraine’s Baba Temple was the icing on the cake, and John is a wonderful host; see you again, soon!

Site 7 - Felton Open Space Camp Sites

I had a very disappointing experience with both this campsite and Hipcamp's customer service. The listing layout is misleading; the sites are placed right next to each other with very little space. To make matters worse, the single shared bathroom is located very far away, causing men to openly pee right near the campgrounds within view. The bathroom facility itself had a completely broken, inoperable sink, which is a basic hygiene issue. On top of the terrible conditions, the host was controlling and crossed a personal boundary by using my personal cell phone number to text me directly instead of using the official app. When I stood my ground, he was highly unprofessional. When I contacted Hipcamp corporate to report these issues, they refused to help. I will not be using this platform again.

I felt we have our own land. Very quite, clean. Really like the mulch on the ground rather than dirt. Enjoyed the animals !

Great place to family camp after a visit to Santa Cruz. John the host is super nice and accommodating, and he runs an onsite winery with tasty product. All the tent spots are lined in a row and equally nice. Dark, open sky at night. We will be back.

We had a large group of Cub Scouts and parents and we all really enjoyed staying at John’s property and winery. John was wonderful to work and meet with, and the kids had such a great time. We won’t hesitate to camp here again, and we definitely plan to. Thanks again, John!

Didn’t want to leave

Rarely are we sad to leave a Hipcamp, but John’s place is a beautiful and serene space set within his Hallcrest winery. We loved having coffee every morning looking out over the hills and enjoying the company of black kitty and of course Bodhi who frequented our trailer for rubs and cuddles (he’s a character). Frozen cider was much appreciated after a day of hiking or biking through the redwoods. Have to mention the hospitality and charming nature of both Heidi and Wesley. They both made us feel welcome and right at home, as if we were being hosted by friends. Oh and Bailey. Absolute sweetheart. Hallcrest wines are fabulous and so many to choose from. We stayed in the corral which was perfect for our solar panels yet had oak trees that provided afternoon shade. Can’t say enough about this place. One of our absolute faves and can’t wait to return. Thanks for sharing your magical space with us.

First to start. I can nit tell you about the campsite that much. I wasn’t able to occupy the spot due to the rushed last minute planning on my part and too low of travel trailer . But checking it after I found it would have been great for a quiet weekend to rest. Nothing much to it, just simply existing. The host was very communicative and warned me of the low clearance before I got there and if he was on site was open to still try to help me out. Thank you John for your help. I will be sure to bring my tents next time.

This is my 3rd time staying with John in Felton, I love the site, you're close to everything in Felton, but the sites are nice and naturey. John hosts a free food pantry at his winery every Friday afternoon for the local community, and you can tell he cares a lot about the local community. I hope to stay here again in the future.

Great campsite, love the proximity to Henry Cowell and Santa Cruz while feeling remote. One bathroom, which worked out fine for us. Awesome property and cute little winery (unfortunately didn’t get to try a tasting, but wish I did!). Host was very friendly!

Perfect Spot!

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at this property. Initially finding our site wasn’t the clearish but we spoke to some of the other people staying there and found our way within a few minutes. You can hear the roaring camp train during the day which was a really nice touch but at night it was super quiet and we both got two restful nights. The location is close to both the redwoods as well as the beach and makes for a perfect place to rest in between adventures. Highly recommended!

Very peaceful and relaxing stay, John was wonderful (he even speaks a little German). There was a church group that was offering free produce for a small donation on Friday afternoon. The Baba temple in the field was tranquil and inspiring 🌺🙏

This was a lovely, shaded campsite tucked behind a local winery. Hipcampers get 10% off tastings if you are so inclined. This is also where the campsite restroom is located. The sites are about a quarter mile walk from there. There is also a Buddhist-type temple near the sites where gatherings are held. One evening there seemed to be a little vegetable stand on the property with a variety of local veggies for sale with a donation for payment. There is also an area for tent campers and a separate area for Harvest Host campers. John, the host, was friendly and welcoming. We would stay here again for sure.

Santa Cruz Adventures Weekend

Stayed at John’s site for a lovely weekend of adventuring in the Santa Cruz area. The campsite served as a base camp for all of our weekend activities and also got some r&r in as well. We did a Cider tasting on site and it was delicious.
