Pitch your tent smack dab in the middle of HartSong Ranch Animal Sanctuary - some of the most beautiful acreage in the Sierra Nevada Foothills.  Cook a delicious, campfire meal - kick up your heels "a bit" after a long, hard day and then - Whew!  Cop a squat, sit back, exhale and prepare yourself to take it all in.  Silence is golden around here and once here, you will soon come to know – that if you blend in, be quiet, listen and observe – NATURE, in all its glory, will reveal its majesty - right before your very eyes. The 2 acre reflects the brilliance of “harmony” in nature.  The water is pure, clean and abundant with life yet, HartSong Ranch is a pesticide free facility.  Nature, taking care of itself, is truly a beautiful thing.  Yellow Water Iris are in full bloom, spring through early summer.  Dragonflies and butterflies sparkle in the sunshine.  Frogs croak, bats dart here and there and big mouth bass become airborne in search of dinner in the early evening hours.  Blue and White Heron visit the pond often – gracefully soaring over the pastures and pond in search of a safe place to land among the Iris.  Watching them calculate a strategy to catch a meal, while appearing to stalk in slow motion – FASCINATING! Upwards of 40 Canada Geese goslings are hatched yearly on the grounds of HartSong.  It’s absolutely adorable to watch the little ones as they frantically paddle along behind their moms.  In addition and if you’re an early riser, you will most certainly feel blessed to observe the loving, yet stern, communications between Canada Goose parents (life- long mates) as they teach their young to fly - every morning at sunrise in the spring. head of cattle (that have never known anything other than kindness), graze the pastures beyond the pond.  Yes, they all have names and yes, they are all as sweet as can be.  Their tranquility is contagious. The "one and only" ALP campsite is large enough to accommodate 9+ large tents.  Only one camping group occupies this campsite. HartSong Ranch Animal Sanctuary, a 30-acre facility, is a 100% volunteer, 501(c)(3) non- profit organization and home to 60+ rescue animals.Some are blind - others have physical challenges - most are trauma survivors. Our mission is to provide a landscape of quiet and tranquility for the animals that live within our gates – a sanctuary where they can enjoy nature, peace of mind and suffer no more. Off the ranch adventures are also abundant in the Sierra Nevada foothills surrounding HartSong Ranch. *The Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park – a 14 mile drive from your campsite, features a museum, restored historic buildings and costumed volunteers.  Gold was discovered here at Sutter’s Mill in 1848, sparking the California Gold Rush. *The American River Confluence (North Fork and Middle Fork merge) – a 10 mile drive from your campsite.  The drive down the canyon to the American River is beautifully picturesque.  Over 100 miles of hiking trails, pristine swimming holes and white water opportunities are available for those of you in search of adrenaline laced activities. *Coloma, California – world famous for its white water rafting excursions – a 14 mile drive from your campsite. *Lotus, California - The Coloma-Lotus Valley is the major destination of the South Fork, shaped by the American River today as in 1848. Three riverfront parks provide opportunities for family picnics and wading, and Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park brings California’s history to life.  While in Lotus, please make a point to stop in at Sierra Rizing Bakery, Coffeehouse and Cafe – located in the beautiful Coloma & Lotus river valley just steps from the South Fork of the American River. They feature small-batch local artisan-roasted coffees, fresh bakery goods, breakfast and lunch fare, as well as specialty drinks, beer, and local wines.  They also offer a beautiful outdoor patio that is dog friendly.  Dogs are also welcome inside the cafe. For those interested to tour the sanctuary grounds, meet many of the rescue animals living within our gates(see EXTRAS to book a private tour). Animal Lovers Paradise
This was by far our families most relaxing camping trip! Jim and Kathy were the most wonderful hosts. Every detail for our comfort and relaxation was thought of for this hip camp site. The location is great and we loved relaxing and watching the animals across the pond all day long. Each morning the friendly cows would come to the fence close to the site to say good morning. Jim and Kathy even included our daughter in helping with the animals during their morning routine. We will definitely be back!

Animal Lovers Paradise
We were camping at Animal lovers paradise last weekend. What an amazing experience. This camping site definitely deserves this name! We made it there a group of 11 campers and two dogs. The location is remarkable with a lovely pond where we enjoyed the local paddle boat and our paddle board, The Creeck crossing the campsite is amazing where we all enjoyed walking in the water, snacking on blackberries, and chilling during the day. The campsite has all you need for a good camping experience: a barbeque, toilet, shaded tables, Chairs by the gas bonfire, a swing and a hammock. The owners went above and beyond helping us with anything needed and recommending great things to do. The kids had a wonderful experience tubing in the American river towards Lotus park! Jim was amazing helping us fixing an electrical blown mattress that it’s cable was torn. In summary, if you’re looking for a beautiful location to camp hosted by wonderful friendly people, animal lovers is the place!

Beautiful space, hosts and well thought out area. Kathy and Jim are so generous and kind, offering any support if needed and respectful of privacy. The lake and stream were a dream and the various animals were such a joy to observe and BE. We are definitely coming back, no doubt.

My family and I loved camping at Hartsong ranch. The property is beautiful and peaceful. Perfect for my kids to play freely. The site is very private and the amenities are amazing. Kathy and Jim were amazing hosts! Even bringing us popsicles for the hot days. My wife as if this is the best site she’s ever camped at, and can’t wait to go back.

I am in awe of Kathy and Jim's hardwork creating this beautiful slice of paradise in California. Experiencing the farm first hand was mesmerizing. They have manicured this peaceful ecoystem where the creatures live in harmony. Their love for the farm was infectious. Every creature, plant, and insect were treated with dignity and respect. The kids were overjoyed helping Kathy in the stables and learning about all the creatures on the farm. We loved riding on the lake in the rowboat, playing with their dogs, staring at the stars above in the evenings, and enjoying all that nature has to offer. We are beyond grateful that places like this exist and that Kathy and Jim were willing to share their peaceful slice of paradise with us. It is a trip we will never forget, thank you!

There aren't proper words to describe how truly picturesque this little piece of paradise is. I hosted my son's 12th birthday here with 11 of his friends, their parents and siblings! It was an absolute blast and the best part is we never had to leave the farm, there was plenty to do, and these kids did it non stop, including swimming in the pond, rowing the little but, taking out the paddle boards. There was plenty of space for them to play dodgeball, flag football and capture the flag, as well as ample camp space for our many tents (seven total including a couple 10+ person tents!) leaving a ton of hang out space for pop up shade tents and our various kitchen set ups. It was easily the best trip of the year and Kathy and Jim were the most gracious hosts, giving us plenty of privacy and space but being available when needed. They were also just SO VERY KIND! Jim even let the younger girl siblings feed the horses and gave them a mini tour around the farm which was the absolute highlight for them. This will definitely not be my last trip to the Animal Lover's Paradise!

This site is so peaceful. It’s nice to be the only group. The surrounding land is so nicely taken care of and the campsite has such great things. The pond and rowboat, the canal, the animals to look at. Love it here!

I loved tent camping at HartSong! This is the most beautiful and special place. I love the horses and dogs and all the birds on the pond. It is a joy to spend the day watching the geese, horses and cows spend their day in the pasture. I will be back soon!

A beautiful and clean campsite! An animal lovers dream. Kathy and Jim are so kind and friendly. They greeted us to show us the area and (with our permission) let their dogs greet ours. The site is extremely well maintained and very serene. Excellent communication with the hosts! If you are looking for complete seclusion, this is not quite that, as you can see other workers from a distance on the Animal Sanctuary. But it still has a very private feel and Kathy and Jim are very respectful of giving space. Lots of animal noises throughout the night and day, as you would expect for an amazing place like this. We loved it! Clean toilet with a place to wash hands. Covered kitchen tables and an enclosed dining space. Grill and small gas fire are for roasting marshmallows. Plenty of nice shade and a good flat area to pitch a tent. Short walk down from parking to the site but they have a wheelbarrow to make it easier to set up. Lots of nice hikes within an hour of the property. Our dogs had an absolutely blast. We hope to revisit this great site!

The property and campsite were fantastic. It was right there in the most gorgeous setting by the pond and a nice big flat area, with covered tables and seating. The animals all around were awesome, horses, cows, geese, waterfowl. THe highlights were the canal for wading, taking the rowboat on the pond, and just simply enjoying the peace. The hosts were so lovely, it is impressive the care they give all the animals. An amazing weekend.

We had such a great time staying here. Sounds of nature, waking up to beautiful views of the lake, seeing all the animals at peace, cooling off in the creek. What a special place. And Kathy and Jim are so incredibly nice and truly love what they do. We can’t wait to come back!

What a beautiful and sweet spot this is! A group of several families - we had such a wonderful time. The ranch is really pretty and well kept, and the hosts are so friendly and welcoming. They have thought about the little details and work really hard to maintain this animal rescue as well as the campers. Jim was so kind to our kids including a tractor ride all around the ranch, and Kathy helped them feed the various animals which they adored. The pond is really a small lake and allows for mostly floaties, our kids loved spending hours at a time there. Our younger kiddos loved dipping and playing in the creek which has melted snow water and is very clean. The grill with a propane tank ready to go and the gas fire pit for roasting marshmlos and rrlaxing made a big difference, as well as plenry of tables, a screened gazebo with seating and 2 shade structures - crucial for the hot hours. Was also easy to find, the directions were accurate 👌 We loved our stay and are planning to return! Highly recommend this for nature lovers and for those looking for a quiet spot to connect with your family/ friends. Thank you Jim and Kathy!

We really enjoyed the campsite. The kids loved riding in the tractor, and they really liked feeding the horses. The lake was beautiful, and we all had fun on our pool floats. I wish we would’ve stayed longer!

The site was ideal for our group! We had several families with kids of varying ages, and the setup was fantastic. It included shade structures, a propane grill and fire pit, solar lights, a rowboat, and a toilet. Our kids especially enjoyed the animals. The running stream right by the campsite provided a safe spot for the kids to cool off in the water!

Kathy and Jim were very welcoming upon arrival and during our stay. It was hot but a very nice breeze during the day and night. The lake was warm and a lot of wild life was around. All her animals have a story which made it so much more meaningful for the work she does. It was amazing and peaceful. Would stay again!

Booked this for my bachelorette trip and it was everything I could have imagined and MORE! We all had the most amazing time meeting the animals, hanging out in the canal, chatting with the wonderful hosts, rowing around the lake, and taking in the sights. We couldn’t have asked for more kind or thoughtful hosts and the campsite had all the amenities we could need. It was perfect and I will definitely be visiting again and will book the tour again next time, too! Animal Lovers Paradise
This place will grab your heart and you’ll fall in love with the animals, the owners, and a slice of serenity. Kathy and Jim have done an outstanding job of creating a peaceful environment that you have all to yourself. No other campers to compete with. They’ve thoughtfully have setup all the major things you need. This is our first time camping without our boat, first time camping with our 9 month old goldendoodle puppy, and brought some cousins for their first time camping too. I don’t know who had more fun the kids, the cousins, the dog, or us. The kids spent 50% of their time in the row boat, 20% up and down the trail playing in the river, 20% visiting all the animals, 10% eating, sleeping, and swinging. They were ready to move in and be ranch hands. It was a hot weekend, and Jim was so thoughtful to bring down an extra pop up shade and to put over the river so we could hang out in the chairs and inner tube on the water with a popsicle too in the shade. We all got an inside view of the daily life on an animal sanctuary. The kids all helped one morning take care and feed each of the animals as they learned the history of how they came to Hartsong. I can’t begin to describe what a special place this is. Everyone needs to go here. It’s an experience unlike any other and we plan to go back in August. It’s the first time since having kids that my husband and I actually got to sit down relax and take in the scenery while the kids could were free to play and explore.

Kathy and Jim’s sanctuary truly is a sanctuary. All of the animals are so well cared for and happy. You can tell Kathy and Jim care about each and every one. If your kids love animals you need to bring them here asap! Jim could not have been more friendly and welcoming. The campground is perfect- they have thought of everything to make your car camping experience a perfect trip. I never sleep well during camping trips and I slept like a dream! I recommend pitching your tent near the canal so you can hear it at night. And do yourself a favor and bring a beach chair and put it in the canal and read a book- the water was so refreshing when it got hot! Don’t hesitate- book now!

Animal Lovers Paradise
Kathy and Jim have built a truly lovely sanctuary for the animals and campground for the people. We loved our stay and were impressed by the amenities such as the shade structure, grill, propane fire box, and rowboat for the lake. We also enjoyed the tour with Kathy. It was great to meet the animals and learn their stories. Thank you for having us and we hope to return again!

We loved camping here. Very well maintained campsite with amenities like fresh water spigot, port-a-pottie, warming pit, bbq, chairs, rowboat, and picnic tables under canopies. Our dog loved being able to run around off leash. It was a great place to take her for her first camping trip. Lots of adorable horses and farm animals, too. And a surprising (to us) lack of mosquitos considering the huge pond! Kathy and Jim were very welcoming and kind.

What a dream, Kathy and Jim’s place was literally paradise for its animals and any visitors who come. My husband, dog and I had an amazing weekend! Watching the animals naturally do their thing, was incredible to witness. We were greeted by Kathy upon check in, she explained the amenities provided (all the amenities are listed in their listing) and gave us a welcome tour of the very spacious camp spot. Kathy and Jim were very respectful of our space and time, very hard working and passionate people towards the work they do! The ranch tour gave us an insight of that life and their care with the animals- biggest recommendation! We will definitely be back!!!

We had an amazing time camping at Kathy & Jim’s animal sanctuary. The campsite is nestled between a lake & canal, with views of the geese on the lake & cows roaming the hillside in front, and views of the sanctuary horses behind. It’s not too far from the main house, but because of its location feels secluded. In the evenings, you fall asleep to the sounds of water rushing through the canal, croaking frogs, chirping crickets…and honking geese (I recommend bringing ear plugs if you’re prone to waking when hearing strange sounds). As a bonus, although we felt so connected to nature, we rarely saw any mosquitos the entire weekend! Also, visiting during early autumn was perfect for harvesting the fruits & veggies they have on the ranch. Before we left, we picked pears & figs and Jim even cut some squash & a watermelon for us! The highlight of our trip was definitely the sanctuary tour. Highly recommend doing this tour if you have time! It’s ~90 mins long and you get to learn about the animals and support their sanctuary. I can’t recommend staying here enough. The campsite is beautiful, with so many amenities it was one of the easiest car camping trips we’ve been on; the hosts are friendly and you can tell they’re incredibly passionate about their mission to provide the best lives for the sanctuary animals; and the location is great, perfect for visiting Apple Hill in the Fall for apples & pumpkins, and visiting Lotus in the spring to summer months for white water rafting.

We loved camping at Hartsong Ranch! Our dogs had an amazing time swimming and enjoying seeing the other animals. Kathy and Jim were fantastic hosts and we loved our weekend!

Almost everything was perfect. The owners are very nice and easy going. The campsite was set in a lovely area away from the main house giving you plenty of privacy. Meeting some of the animals was fun and thought provoking. The only thing is the pond/lake in my opinion is not swimmable as we witness a horse poop in the water along with all the ducks and geese.

We LOVED our stay at Hartsong Ranch. The property is beautiful, and Jim and Kathy have gone above and beyond with little details to make the stay comfortable: a picnic table in a screened tent so you can eat without flies bothering you, a canopy over 2 other tables, a hand washing station near the outhouse, and several chairs and benches in the shade. And to make sure you have fun, they have a corn hole set and a rowboat to use in the private little lake. Jim even brought us popsicles one day! Jim and Kathy are kind, helpful, attentive hosts and their property is beautiful and peaceful. We will definitely be returning.
