Lovely spot to camp. So close to the Petrified Forest National Park. Tha driveway in is need of repair. After a small rain our 4 wheel drive had a hard time getting out. Very slippery and rutted.

Unfortunately we could not access the property. The road had been washed out by rain. The alternative route had thick tire ruts and mud. Our 4WD vehicle struggled so we didn’t risk the campervan getting stuck. The host didn’t seem to have a solution for us so we had to drive 25 miles to find a campsite for the night.

Sunshine Tent at Rainbow Ranch
Overall it was a really nice tent and location, downsides were the road to get there, parts were washed out and it was a challenge! The other drawback we found was the uncovered bucket toilet. The outhouse set up was really pretty well done except that it rained and it had no roof so we dealt with wet toilet paper and rain when we used it. I think a few more thoughtful touches would make all the difference. We also added on wood and eggs and never did receive either which was sad.

This was a real convenience, to be able to roll into our campsite, all we needed to do was throw down our mats and sleeping bags in the tent and go to sleep. It was a great way to break up a long drive to Colorado.

I loved camping here! It’s probably the most remote wide open space I’ve ever camped. Gorgeous views of the National Park area and beyond. It’s a dark sky area too, so the stars were over the top amazing. Toilet is not for the faint of heart, but it accomplished the need. Sturdy, roomy tent. It was a bonus not to have to set mine up. Do heed the advice of the hosts and make sure to arrive in daylight the first time to make things go smoothly. Hosts we friendly and responsive, worth every penny and would definitely return!

We enjoyed our stay got to see some beautiful sun sets and a few double rainbows. They were very helpful when we had questions. Would come back and stay again. If we are ever up that way again.

Our stay was great, such a luxury to have privacy yet still be close to the Nat'l park. However, the dirt road to get into the property is muddy and more like two parallel tire tracks leading you in. I have high clearance and AWD and still struggled a bit. The drive on this road is ~5 min. If you don't mind that, then this camping experience is great. We got 6 farm fresh eggs, a nice perk.

Cool REMOTE place. I would not recommend it for trailer or RV campers the road to get to the site is SO BAD. We have 4x wheel drive and a small trailer and it was still pretty knarly. There are not bathrooms, water, trash, showers, dumping or anything so really if you have a rv or trailer you are paying to boondock. If you are looking to tent camp or rent a yurt it could be cool for that.

Minimal effort is put into the condition of the campsites. And the host had vague knowledge of the area. Communication was awkward and aloof. I own a small plot of land outside Death Valley that I host campers on and I’d be embarrassed if I ran it like Jorge.

This campsite fit my needs for the time I was there. The night i stayed it was a little windy when putting up my tent, but I just tied everything down and it was fine. The dirt road going into the place had been messed up due to the rain, but I messaged Jorge and he had already created another path into his campsite. Overall I would recommend this campsite.

This was a pleasant stay. The scenery was beautiful. I only had one night, but if you have time, it would be a good base to explore the area. Come prepared with supplies and follow the directions to get there. I was pleasantly surprised by the composting toilet. What a great, simple idea. I only booked a camping spot, but the tents look amazing.

Primitive camping in a great location. Very fair, great value for the price. Jorge responded immediately to any inquiries I had. You have to some off-roading to get there, but pretty easy. Do check the weather forecast though! It really changes rapidly in the dessert and for me went to super sunny to lightning thunderstorm in minutes.

Rainbow Ranch camp was incredible!!! The location was awesome and super peaceful. It was easy to find, very clean and well maintained...but most of all the on site host was absolutely amazing!!! I am so grateful to have made a last minute booking. I felt so welcome and taken care of. As a solo female traveler, the sense of safety was a giant plus for me. I look forward to going again.

Great stay! The tent was very clean, comfortable and easy to identify. All was as pictured and communicated. I arrived very late and only stayed to sleep, but Jorge was very responsive throughout the booking and I was able to find my tent easily. Would stay again and felt safe on the property as a solo female traveler.

We loved the large tent (room for two of us and our dog to spread out after a month in a two person tent!) and the quiet of Jorge’s property. Jorge was very friendly and welcoming and the sunset was incredible!

Jorge was very communicative before our arrival, providing guidance to minimize the chances of getting lost on the way to his remote location. Rainbow ranch is a beautiful desert setting with views of distant mesas. Getting there is a bit challenging as the last mile is a really bumping dirt road. However once we got there Jorge was out to greet us with the half dozen fresh eggs we requested. He led us down to a nice level parking spot. Even though there were 2 other campers it was a very peaceful and a beautiful night in the desert.

Our experience was great. Jorge was very helpful even though we showed up so late. It was a bit more desolate than I expected. I was okay with the primitive set up. Everything was clean. I wish there would have been a picnic bench. It would have been helpful to cook and eat meals on.
