My son and I loved everything about staying here. Our campsite was great -- flat, soft grass, with an amazing view out over the refuge (including bison a few hills away) -- and the tour they took us on of the ranch and prairie was one of the highlights of it trip: meeting the bison up close blew my 4-year-old's mind and mine too actually :). Victoria and Carl are lovely people and great land managers. We can't wait to come back.

Vicki and her Husband were great hosts. Extenuating circumstances led to a late arrival and they were so gracious. They escorted us to our spot and offered any support we might need. We will elect to stay again in the future on our long trip up to Alaska!

The land was SO interesting, with beautiful plant species varieties and great vistas! Victoria was so sweet and flexible with us, and she gifted us some delicious tomatoes from her garden. The hilltop was a bit windy but those sunrises were definitely worth it !! 10/10 would stay again (:

High elevation views and a peaceful environment. The host communicates very well and makes you feel welcome. There are no shade trees so plan accordingly. Very private and relaxed setting.

We loved camping on Victoria’s land! Labor day weekend may have been cloudy and rainy, but we had a blast. We visited the falls and went fishing in the pond. It was great! Would definitely visit again!

It was private and had a very nice view. This area of the country tends to be a bit windy, but we were able to park our camper to block the wind and enjoy the view from inside.

Beaver Pond
We had a great stay at Beaver Pond. Victoria and Carl were great hosts. Very responsive and accommodating. The spot is very remote, yet close to town and to Smith Falls. Beautiful sunrise both mornings that we were there and it cooled down nicely in the evenings. We had no problem pulling our OP15 back into a great spot south of the pond. Would highly recommend if you are traveling to the area.

We were extremely grateful for Victoria's flexibility. She was in communication with us as we dealt with some unexpected camper issues. We unfortunately could not see her beautiful site but hope to get there some day!

we absolutely loved this site. the view of the coniferous valley & the prairie beyond was breathtaking, and being atop a hill, the breeze was perfect for cooling off in the summer sun. our host was really kind & even shared some bison jerky with us!

The place and hosts are lovely! We had an amazing view and the site is very private. We loved our time there and want to come back. Victoria is very responsive and answered all questions and then some. She does note in the Hipcamp listing that you want more ground clearance on your vehicle to access the river view site (suv or truck) and do listen, but it is easy to navigate. The trail there is in good condition and is pretty smooth, just tall grass a a slightly raised in the middle of the tracks that would make it a challenge for a car with low clearance to handle. If you want to camp, enjoy a beautiful sunrise/sunset, and look for animals, this is the ticket. Highly recommend!

I didn’t actually stay at CapStone. I don’t know which site I was. Whichever, the views and space were peaceful and gorgeous.
Definitely getting some more of their jerky!
I look forward to returning.

A rare opportunity to get up close and personal with native prairie plants. Great site. Great vibe. Great hosts - very helpful. Bison meat! Honey!

I loved it. The prairie isn’t what you think, and it certainly isn't boring; miles, and miles, of pre-Colombian prairie, with grass (of course), tree covered hills, and the Niobrara River can be seen from the overlook that is this campsite.. All can be explored on foot, with day hikes. Wild, and captive, bison are nearby. None of them have access to this campsite, though.
A great host awaits, with hands-on bison tours, firewood, and lots of information on the local wilderness. Make sure you take the bison tour with a real bison rancher.

We LOVED this place, which felt like our own special secret campsite, which I guess it was!
Super-quiet, no highway noise when the wind is right. Sand hills wildlife all around. The pond is healthy and the fish are feisty. Victoria and Carl are excellent and generous hosts, and their bison products are outstanding. Very close to Valentine and a put-in on the Niobrara. A gem!

Camped with my Grandsons. The scenic overlook is beautiful. Boys enjoyed hiking down to rock ledges and doing what boys do. B/c of winds,we asked for a different site and hosts graciously agreed. Spent remainder of stay at the pond. Here the boys enjoyed chopping dead logs and climbing the steep hill behind camp.
Stargazing is amazing here.
Also recommend the bison tour. Learned much about prairie ecology and bisons part. Oh......and also got to feed bison.
Hosts are very helpful and knowledgeable. Would love to spend more time with them in conversation.

The land and the views are breathtaking!!! The site was totally private!! The area has a lot to offer with the Niobrara river and surrounding wildlife refuge. About 30-40 min from Valentine National Wildlife refuge also. Vicky and Carl are great hosts and very knowledgeable about the land and the bisons that they raise. Make sure you take the Bison tour!!!!

We have stayed here multiple times. Host is super helpful helping us pick out a site. They have great honey and bison products. A special part of your stay could be a tour through their bison herd.

The views were excellent and the hosts are excellent. Easy to get to two-track trail through a pasture if you have an pickup or SUV. Very primitive spot. No amenities except a fire ring. The hosts helped us fill up the tanks on our RV at their house before going out to the camping site. The bison tour is well worth experiencing. Wonderfully dark skies means you can see a lot of stars.

This is breath taking area. As far as you can see,
trees and rock formations. Across the ridge was lots of Buffalo with babies. Early morning and evening song birds were all around. We even saw wild turkeys. Many other family activities around town. We really enjoyed staying at this Boondocking location . George and Toby

I stayed at the Beaver Pond sight and it was absolutely great. I also took the Bison/Prairie tour which I highly recommend. The host were very kind and easy to communicate with before and throughout the stay.
