The beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills showcase their natural beauty through rolling hills, scenic views, and a vast diversity of trees. Volcano is the gateway to the El Dorado National Forest and the Mokelumne Wilderness, where you can enjoy countless outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, fishing, biking, and more. There are numerous breathtaking natural lakes near Carson Pass and the Kirkwood Ski Resort. The closest lake, Bear River Reservoir, is perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing. Kirkwood Ski Resort is only 45 minutes from Gold Dust Ranch.This is a great place to enjoy nature, stare up into the stars, and free your mind by immersing yourself into the outdoors. Little Skies is a great camping location with amazing western sunset views. I am still working on amenities, but soon there will be a deck with outdoor seating, lighting, toilet, hammocks, a fire pit, electricity, and much more. Dry firewood/ kindling is included. For now it is just the land with drinking water, so stay posted! Prices will rise once everything is built. The campsite is somewhat flat but there is a slight slope so I recommend bringing leveling blocks if you are sleeping in your vehicle. 4WD is definitely recommended (especially during winter) since the road to the campsite can be muddy. The forest is dense, roads are narrow, and there are many trees so trailers wouldn’t be able to make it to this campsite due to tight corners. Trucks and camper vans wouldn’t have a problem. I am located about half a mile from the campsite so you can always call me if you need anything or have any questions!

Little Skies Lookout 🏕️⛰️

A wonderful site to camp at! Julian was very helpful! From guiding to the campsite, providing firewood, even setting up the fire nights fire! This site was very peaceful, a little tucked away from the world. You could hear wildlife around, woodpeckers, turkeys, even saw some deers. Amazing sunset and views of the stars. Stayed for two nights and I'd stay again in the future.

This was overall a great experience. Julian came out multiple times to check in on us and offer us firewood and water. The views are great and the site is great. I’d recommend this spot to everyone.

Secluded, Rustic, and Amazing Host

Little Skies Lookout 🏕️⛰️

We had an amazing stay and would give this campsite a full 5-star review. The spot is beautiful, quiet, and truly rustic/“off-the-grid” — very private with no nearby neighbors, so it feels like real nature. The host was outstanding: friendly, responsive, and went above and beyond. He brought us dry firewood, and even included cardboard/kindling in the wood bundle, which made starting the fire incredibly easy. A few tips for future guests: Directions: The last stretch can be confusing and GPS may not be reliable. It’s best to remember the way in, and don’t hesitate to call/text the host for guidance (he was extremely helpful). Vehicle: 4WD/AWD is recommended, especially after rain/snow when it gets muddy. We drove a RWD Tesla and had to retry a couple steeper/muddy spots. In dry conditions, 2WD should be fine if you take it slow. Leveling: The campsite is mostly flat with a slight slope in places — if sleeping in a car/van, bring a couple leveling blocks. Overall, an excellent experience. We’d happily come back and highly recommend it!
