I have owed this property for over 10 years.  In the past, before I listed this property for camping, travelers would stop and ask to camp on my land.  There are not many options for camping on this stretch of Hwy so I decided to offer up my place.  So far guest have either loved it or hated it.

Cholla Ranch Camp, situated in the Chihuahuan Desert of Far West Texas is both remote and convenient as it lies just a few miles from the small town of Alpine.  This desert setting has been consistently used as a working ranch for decades.  The camp is a 10 acre section we have dedicated to hosting guests out of the 1100 acre ranch. 
Three unique Glamping Tents are offered on the ranch to rent. Each tent offers indoor plumbing, comfy beds, refrigerator, microwave, heat and ac seasonally, a private deck, outdoor cooking space and much much more.  
From your deck is a direct view of the Twin Peaks during the day and spectacular stargazing at night.  Pasture Horses and Cattle Roam the Property while Chickens stay safe in their oversized run. One part ranch, one part camp- all Far West Texas Desert.
We supply a range of fantastic organic toiletries that help support our grey water system.  Fresh Locally Ground Coffee and yes even snacks. Hi Friends! 👋🏼

At the beginning of 2021, we moved (I’m originally from a beach area in Southern Los Ángeles!) onto this property which needed a ton of TLC! My husband grew up in Stanton, TX but he got to live in San Diego for over 15 years doing a combination of Youth, College, and Camping Ministry. Three years after we got married we moved to his hometown during the pandemic. The move has brought about a fun and growing learning adventure, that I will always be so grateful for!  

Although homesteading in the desert is not always easy, we have really come to enjoy it here! Our neighbors are nice (and our dear friends) and this area is very safe! 

We have Pecan trees, ducks, chickens, and a small garden. We love to garden and we have learned how to eat native plants too and feed a lot of them to our chickens and ducks! 🌱

The property was originally a trailer park! We are converting those spots so that RV’s can come and have full hookups! 🔌

*Please Note: West Texas is known for having sticker plants! We are actively trying to lower the sticker count on our property but it's definitely going to take some time. So sorry about that!* 

We have big dreams for this place (i.e. grass, a pond, a driving range, etc) and we’re hoping to use the money we get from hosting towards those dreams!

Lightning Ranch

Learn more about this land:WARNING: We can't accommodate rigs with a total length longer than 28 feet at this time unless you make special arrangements and we assist you with parking.You will be camping in a fairly level grassy area among mesquite, Juniper and cedar trees with easy access to our red and green colored mesas and arroyos. The canyons have streams with running water during and right after rain storms. But this is mostly dry semi arid desert country with many different kinds of thorny plants and cactus. The blossoms are beautiful, especially the Yuccas,  in the spring starting in late March through May. We have many types of birds including hawks, owls and roadrunners. Bobcats, wild hogs, deer, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and opossums also share the ranch. There is great county road bicycling on paved roads with almost no traffic.This is primitive dry camping and currently there are no bathrooms, showers or potable water. The county road is paved and the ranch access road is caliche. But during rainy periods the short hip camp road can become muddy so minimize driving.
