With westerly views over the Trent Valley and in the shadows of a ruined 18th-century windmill, this is a peaceful and scenic place to take a break indeed…
Well-positioned too, with a generous handful of pubs, restaurants and cafés a scenic 35 minutes’ walk away in Gunthorpe alongside the river Trent. Radcliffe on Trent and Bingham are five minutes’ drive away for any other amenities you might (supermarkets, shops, restaurants, pubs and the likes). Even with such good access to so many towns and the big city, the site itself is remote. It has 10 acres of hay meadows and woodlands for guests to explore and, of course, sublime sunsets over the valley. It’s no frills here. The grass and woodland pitches have facilities including water and portaloo access. Dogs are also permitted, as are barbecues.

We went in our campervan last year and the camp had about 12 units. We’ve just returned from a few nights there over the weekend and was a little shocked at the sheer numbers on site. Manager said that they were expecting 120 to arrive on the Friday. Bearing in mind that no caravans are allowed, the majority were tents with a lot of children with no shower or toilets. 2 men’s toilets and 3 showers for that amount of people was clearly not enough and so queuing was a bit of an issue.
We left on the Monday as did a lot of the units and it was therefore tranquil again.
I would return but only midweek and out of school holidays.

Lovely area close to beautiful walks in Cannock Chase. Canalside walk is even closer (though not a loop!). The campsite also has a great playground for kids, with ponies and horses in the next fields. Small bar to get drinks too for the adults

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the land is spacious and varied. The facilities were clean and pleasant (although one of the 2 showers was out of use - didn't cause any difficulty to me on this occasion and hopefully will be fixed soon). I will definitely return. Thankyou Tom.

I recently visited Lakeland boats sales looking for my new narrowboat home and was pleasantly surprised to see the campsite across the road, as I’d traveled 3 hrs I thought I’d stay the night and I’m so pleased I did.
