Tir na nOg Farm

Highland cattle graze at the forest's edge on our Celtic-heritage farm: a gentle retreat with options for farm-fresh breakfasts,  woodland wandering, and campfires complete with Gaelic songs and bagpipes!

Our 40-acre farm includes heritage-breed animals, honeybees, organic gardens, and over 30 acres of conservation woodlands. We favor scythes over tractors--your stay will be quiet and fume-free!  Bradbury Mountain and several trail networks are nearby, along with rivers, ocean beaches, and an excellent locavore food scene.  

Since the early 1800s, this land on the edge of Chandler Brook has nourished bodies and spirits alike.  Sloping pastures meet well-managed woodlands, making this a haven for both humans and wildlife. Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods.  We keep bees, maintain pollinator habitats, tend an orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth and Mangalitsa pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle.  Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm.  Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. This land is already better than we found it, but we hope it will remain a gathering-ground of culture and agriculture, tradition and innovation for generations to come.

The Upper Farm

The Upper Farm is set on 70 rugged acres in southern Maine. Pitch your tent under the cover of mature hardwoods alongside a babbling brook, in fields blanketed by the Milky Way, or atop the solitude of secluded ledges. Your neighbors are deer, fox, and other native animals. Boat, canoe or kayak at nearby Worthley Pond, a spring-fed mountain waterway known for its fishing. Peru provides easy access to western Maine attractions, including Rangeley, Sunday River and Kingfield, to name a few. You may choose to get your hands dirty right on the farm--pitching in with chores and animal husbandry. Denali, our farm hound, looks forward to greeting you. The sheep, pigs, and chickens will also enjoy seeing you. 

Our farm cabin has a great feel of being connected to nature.  It is quiet, cozy and a wonderful place to watch the sunset overlooking grazing animals.  The cabin has a queen bed in the downstair bedroom and another double bed in the loft.  The couch in the sitting room also folds-out to a double bed for the children. We use high-quality cotton sheets, pillows and down comforters - to assure you will be cozy and feel pampered. 

We provide coffee/tea service in the morning in our farm store.  By reservation, we serve a full country breakfast ($14/pp) and four-course farm-to-table dinners with many ingredients from our farm ($65/pp). 

By reservation, we also offer a special evening of our own chef-made wood-fired pizza, backyard fire and Downeast company. Many of the ingredients are from our farm. BOYB. ($50/pp; groups of 4 or more $40/pp) Discounts for families with children. 

The cabin does not have heat, electricity or running water. We provide numerous battery-charged lights and candles making this a is cozy, relaxing and perfect way to experience Maine farm life. An outhouse is nearby.  We provide an outdoor hot-water shower.  

Plan to visit our farm store where you can buy goat-milk soap, beeswax candles, organic wool pillows, sheep and goat skins and other creations made by Patti.

Loads of hiking trails are right out our door or wander down the gravel road. 

Visiting the animals (sheep, pigs, chickens and, of course, Denali - the farm hound) is always a highlight for guests. Please leave your own dog at home, thank you. 

 Chris is a proud Mainer and natural tour guide. He will be happy to provide you with his favorite recommendations and hidden gems.

For the past nine years, hundreds of people have enjoyed seeing the lambs, visiting our pigs, walking on our trails, and relaxing in a cell-free zone.

Slippery Rock Trails LLC

Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River.  We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage,  a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout.   Our lands have long been open to local hikers, bikers and cross country skiers, we are excited to share this beautiful property with a larger community.  Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. Tire yourself by hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing the 10 miles of private trails.  Located across the river from Riverlands State Park, just minutes from Lewiston-Auburn, Bates College, local breweries and just 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Wildlife abounds both on the property and across the river at Androscoggin Riverlands State Park.Quite often, a gentle breeze off the water will offer relief from black flies and mosquitoes, but the right bug repellent is recommended especially to fend off those pesky ticks that are so common in Maine.

If you want to catch the river fog, wake with the sun after a cooler summer night. 

We opted for the site overlooking the water, and needless to say, we weren't sorry.

The inside doesn't feel "tiny" or micro sized in any way.

minutes from LL Bean, Freeport, 30 minutes to portland.  Runaround Pond and Bradbury Mtn State Park, quiet secluded country setting.

If you opt for a tent, there are a few wonderful spots. We opted to set up near the campfire!
