Espri and Darren began Brambleberry Permaculture Farm in the fall of 2003 in the beautiful hills of southern Indiana. We are primarily a plant nursery, but also offer permaculture landscaping and farm consultations. We usually have cows, chickens and rabbits, but are currently taking a break from cattle to build better fences lol. We occasionally have peacocks, ducks, pigs or other livestock as well.

The Cabin is powered by solar &; wind and uses a filtered rain water collection system. It is close to French Lick & Paoli, hiking, golf, canoeing, spelunking, skiing hunting and more. Please note that during the winter months the angle of the sun is lower and the panels do not produce as much power as in the summer months (plus you have less daylight hours) . Depending on the cloud cover you may be limited to lights only in November, December, January and February . There is a generator available for rent at $10.00 per night plus gas or you can bring your own. There is a wood stove and a 13,000 btu indoor gas wall heater for heat, both units provide more than enough heat. There are two window air conditioning units that can be used in, June, July and August. Once you get to the end of August or on cloudy days you are limited to the amount of time you can use the AC units unless you rent the generator. There is a propane cook stove available if you run out of power and 2 charcoal grills (you supply charcoal). Please note that the cabin is still a work in progress and is not 100% completed. Also note that if rain is limited there may be no water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this off the grid cabin. The setup was interesting to learn about and more than suited our needs. This isn't an Airbnb or Holiday Inn, but it's certainly a step up from camping. The host was very responsive in helping with any issues, even driving a long way to replace some equipment. Very quiet and peaceful overall, we certainly plan to come back!

Cozy and relaxing! The cabin was warm with the propane heater even in the dreary January weather. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, pantry basics, etc. a great place to spend the weekend.

A simple, but lovingly built cabin on a really lovely property. We came down from Chicago in early April to get a jump on the spring, and what a treat! Birdsong, wild flowers and the lovely fresh green of the trees starting to leaf out. Peaceful and soul soothing!
It was interesting and inspiring to be in a self sustaining off the grid cabin, and there was plenty of battery power to meet our needs.
There is lots to do in the immediate area. Hoosier national park has great hiking trails, as do the nearby state parks. Exploring some of the nearby caves was exciting.

My 9 year old son and I absolutely loved this cozy little cabin! This place had all of the beautiful touches you would expect from HipCamp: a cool old stove, neat antique items, a beautiful and rustic wood burning stove, efficient and thoughtful touches to increase comfort, and maybe the best lofted bed ever. There were just enough amenities to keep it comfortable (wood-burning fireplace, sawdust latrine, running water for the sink, gas lamps, gas stove). There was so much firewood and kindling that we never had trouble getting the fireplace or the outdoor fire ring going. We enjoyed visiting the nature areas nearby that Espri was kind enough to recommend, and we loved cozying up in the cabin during a thunderstorm. And we adored the baby goats :). This is the perfect getaway if you’re looking for an off-grid glamping experience!

Weekend Trip to Brambleberry Permaculture Farm
Loved the cabin and the whole experience! We took a family vacation with our two girls (6 y/o and 22 month old). Espri was kind to give us a heads up about some of the dangers for us to watch for with the baby. She told us we could walk around the property to see the cows, goats and geese. Kids loved the animals and played on the man made play set. Espri was great and gave us eggs from her chickens that we ate for breakfast and supplied us a power pack to charge our phones which helped us use our gps the next day for day tripping to national parks. She even refroze our ice packs for our cooler.
We wish we could’ve spent a whole week there. Loved the secluded, back to nature feel being without electricity and warming the cabin with the wood burning stove. We did run out of propane but we had started dinner pretty late so we just finished off cooking everything in the fire pit. Had an amazing time! Def recommend to anyone seeking a cabin in the woods.

Oh my gosh, this cabin is adorable! Everything inside is put together for functionality AND it's cute. Its SO private as well! Be prepared to walk a little ways -- your car may not make it back into the woods, but I assure you it's worth it for a cozy cabin stay ❤
