'Aumakua Acres

Located 4,500 ft above sea level on the slopes of Mauna Loa. Immerse yourself in the peaceful cloud forest. Enjoy a stunning view of the coastline by day, and a dazzling array of stars by night. Bird watchers and nature lovers alike will delight in this space. You'll likely hear the songs of the northern cardinal, saffron finch, and zebra doves. If you have a keen eye, you might be able to spot a Jackson chameleon among the canopy. This whimsical off-grid experience is will give you a unique perspective on the rhythms and flora of the Hawaiian Mountains.

Sleeping space. Sheets and bedding included. 

Outdoor kitchen. Spices and some staple foods provided. Propane oven and stove, propane heated sink, citrus hand press, mortar and pestle, silverware and glassware available for use.

I'm shooting east from site number 9 at 10:30p. Camping at Namakanipaio costs $20 per night $15 if you already have a Volcano's park pass. These sites get less costal moisture at night than camping in the national park and are 3 miles from the park entrance.

Welcome to the private and secure community of Kula Kai View Estates in Hawaii. Situated on three-acre properties, our community offers a tranquil and convenient location halfway between Kailua Kona and Volcanoes National Park. Just a short three-minute drive from Highway 11, you'll find yourself within five minutes of stores, gas stations, and restaurants.

Within walking distance, you can explore the world-renowned Kula Kai Caverns, known for their natural beauty and geological wonders. From our community, you'll also be treated to a breathtaking view of the ocean and the southernmost point in the US.

We offer a private cabin for your comfort and convenience. The road leading to the cabin is well-maintained, providing easy access, and there is ample parking available for vans or RVs. The cabin features a full stand-alone restroom equipped with a shower, toilet, sink, and hot water. Additionally, we provide a washer and dryer on-site, ensuring you have all the amenities you need.

While our property is on the grid for power, we also offer Wi-Fi access if needed. Whether you're traveling around the Big Island or simply seeking a place to relax and enjoy beautiful sunsets, our cabin provides a perfect retreat. And if you find yourself caught in a rain shower, you can take advantage of our facilities to dry your clothes.

Kona comfy RV w/million dollar view

NOTE: There is a 4 wheel 1/3 mile driveway to the campsite, so a Jeep or other four-wheel-drive vehicle is necessary to drive to the rental. All wheel drive (AWD) isn’t 4 wheel drive and won’t work!

If you don’t have a 4x4 vehicle:

You can park in our parking lot at the top of the driveway and:

(A) we can leave a Nissan Frontier for you to drive to the rental and back to your car if you are comfortable driving a 4 wheel drive road.

Or

(B) we can happily pick you up at the top and drive you up and down! 

Your choice! Just let us know when you reserve which you would like to do

We have a 24-foot Class C RV, Ohana, surrounded by coconut palms and offering a 180-degree, million-dollar view! Enjoy the peace and quiet along with refreshing ocean breezes.

The RV sleeps up to 4 guests, with a queen-size cab-over bed and a full-size bed. It includes a kitchen and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.

There’s a large covered lanai for watching the sunsets each evening, as well as a fire pit for campfires.

Mountain goats occasionally graze on the property, and during whale season you will not only see whales—you can also hear them!

We are located in South Kona, 35 miles south of Kailua-Kona, 56 miles from Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and 95 miles from Hilo.

Captain Cook is 15 miles north and offers groceries, a hardware store, and several places to eat.

There are two neighborhood beaches nearby: Pebble Beach is 1½ miles north, and Hōkena Beach is 7 miles north. Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau (City of Refuge) is 8 miles north.

Coco Hut Glamping at Honua La'a

Enjoy the country life in Kau on the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 19 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place).  Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there, but you don’t need 4WD to get to our place, but you do need to rent an SUV or truck with high clearance. No sedans.  Go slow the road is rough and bumpy in places.. 

Off the grid. Rustic, but fun.  If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot!

Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. 
It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road.  We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things.

The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water.

Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is a gas grill and propane single burner. Bathroom has manual flush toilet,.

This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. You can charge your phone and have a lamp in your cabin. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and T-Mobile work here also.

The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing!

Our glamping cabins are in the front 3 acres. The back 17 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve.

Papaya Patch at Sunrise Horizon

The family who own and operate Southern Comfort fell in love with the property  while visiting friends and family over 25 years ago. They knew they would eventually want to retire here from the mainland one day. Fast forward to 2021 and they started their developments. After building their dream home, they knew they wanted to share the beauty to extended family and friends so they created their first site "Papaya Patch", converting their storage container into a private comfy stay and then built their 2nd site “Valley View Bungalow”. 

Both sites offer a queen bed and their own bathroom and outdoor shower access .  Ocean views from the Papaya Patch and Valley Views from the bungalow. Sunrise Horizon is within 1 hour from Kīlauea Volcanoes National Park, approximately 10 minutes to volcano Park Kahuku Unit, 9 miles to South Point, 10 minutes to Naalehu town, and the perfect mid-point between Kona and Hilo. Plenty of beaches and hiking close by! I’m almost always available to offer some friendly tips and advice for your next adventure!

I had an amazing stay at this charming place, easily accessible by 2WD. The room was comfortable, spotless, and quiet. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and made me feel right at home. I truly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!
