THE OKINA AT PARADISE UNPLUGGED

1 site · Lodging3 acres · Fern Forest, HI
THE "OKINA", at Paradise Unplugged, is a clean and private cabin that allows you to experience THE REAL HAWAII. This will give you an opportunity to stay within Hawaii's Largest Collection of Rainforest Tikis. Upon your arrival, you will experience our amazing Tiki collection along with our tropical plant nursery which includes over 300 rare Hapuu Ferns. You will see the many ways we live off grid in the Hawaiian jungle. ALOHA! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our 7 life sized tiki statues that represent the game of chess. These tiki statues sit along a fence that was created using 100% recycled pallets. Once you enter the outdoor foyer, you will once again be greeted by 4 more life sized tiki statues. Upon entering the property, you will walk through our natural lava rock path called "The Horse Shoe". To the right you will see our rare collection of Hapuu Ferns along with other tropical plants from our nursery. To the left will be another 4 tiki statues from our collection ranging in sizes from 6 to 20 feet. All of our tiki statues are original pieces of artwork that are 100% hand carved. Along "The Horse Shoe" path you will also see several lava rock sculptures along with a "Rasta" sculpture that is insitu and still in the process of being created. After about a 100 foot walk, you will arrive at "The Okina" guesthouse. The Okina is a unique structure built from 100% recycled pallets! The hallways and sleeping area is about 100 sqft and features several pieces of original mixed media artwork and a futon style bed. We offer open spaced hallways along with a private lanai for you relax in and enjoy the tropical scenery. The hallway with black pillars and stringed bamboo will lead you to a unique indoor/outdoor jungle bathroom that is lined with totem poles that are 100% hand carved. Topical Tree Homestead

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Pāhoa, HI
Aloha, I made a lifestyle decision to move to Hawaii in 2005. I fell in love with the Big Island for the first time in 97. Since then I've explored homesteading and a closer connection to our land. I have been building and creating. Now I am ready to share my property with travelers who visit this magical place. I am into a peaceful sustainable existence, that gives rest to a fast moving civilization. Sometimes it is enough to just look at the stars, and here you can see them well, or just return to the original TV, a nice relaxing fire. And I love to cook on the flames, so simple, so good. Sharing food is my favorite form of communion. I love slow cooking, whether it be smoking or stew making. Slower and longer is just better if you ask me. I am a builder, and as a builder the most gratifying thing is to see people enjoying the manifestations that have been created. Sometimes the focus of what it means to construct something for the utilitarian purpose gets lost in the process. But, the magic is always underlying everything, so many times pure serendipity is right there, reminding us. The intention is everything and construed in all the stones carried, wood carved, land sculpted and much, much else. When the energy is pure, then it is easily conveyed or felt. This land is unfolding as the volcano has taught us. All who become part of this history will see how powerful is the asking. My experience here is that there is an instant reflection in the asking. Have fun and come and see...After all this is some of the newest land on this planet.
