A little bit about our property:
This property has been in the family for multiple generations.
Our Old Family Farm has been an agricultural farm, a cattle farm, and now is a tree farm and nature preserve.
Our primitive campground offers mixture of open land, young timber, ancient hardwood, fishing ponds, spring heads, and streams. We even have a small section of swampland.
We practice an active controlled burn program and almost always have some freshly burned areas that are fairly clean of vegetation - as well as several areas with fresh regrowth. It is not uncommon to come across Deer sheds and other interesting finds when taking a walk.
If You love nature and are interested in Primitive camping, you can also enjoy a dark sky experience in several of our open areas. According to some our astronomer guests, our night skies are mapped as the darkest skies around, east of the Mississippi River, with the exception of one other campground located east of us. Chances are that your Children may see stars that they have never viewed before. When was the last time you stepped out into your yard, looked up, and clearly saw the Milky Way?

Apparently, we are not meeting the expectations of everyone coming to camp with us. In order to prevent further disappointment, we have added the following paragraphs.
We do have several Glamping Sites in the works and hope to have at least one of them available sometimes early next year. Currently we only have a very limited number of primitive campsites that are easily accessible by passenger cars.
We Are A Primitive Campground. We offer only a limited number of camp sites that are developed to convenience. We have many awesome spots, but some may require a small to moderate amount of time to clean and dress up for your comfort. A simple cutting tool, such as a machete or ax, will make short and quick work out of your campsite prep.
Murchison Farm has served in many different farming capacities, throughout generations of stewards. It's many operations have included row crops, cattle production, goat herds, horses, chicken and turkey production, as well as Tree farming. We are currently operating as a Tree Farm, Wildlife Preserve/Reserve, and Primitive Campground - in that order of priority.
If you like clear wide-open areas, you should plan your camping trip for fall, winter, spring, and early summer. Because of our intense controlled burn schedule, you will find the farmland extremely lush and full of botanical growth - during the summer months. Grass, bushes, vines, low lying tree limbs, and a variety of other plants flourish to the point that some areas of the property appear overgrown and unkept. Not much else could be further from the truth. In fact, the massive growth can largely be attributed to all of the nutrients released from the burn process. Much of the lower plant growth is consumed, from our burn activity, and easily available for new growth.
During other periods of the year, the same little area may consist largely of bare soil spotted with new green growth.
There is an abundance of deadwood and broken limbs available around the farm for campfires, if you would like to pick it up. This includes firewood sometimes left by previous campers. Please do not cut down any living trees or shrubs.
Primitive Camping may not be for everyone! I suggest that you take the Name, into account, and do a little research into the Actual Practice.
We offer some campsites which can be easily accessed with cars, but many may require 4-wheel drive, or low hanging branches which may scratch your vehicle.
If You are looking for an orderly and well-groomed commercial Campground, Our Primitive Campground may not be for you.
Pitch your tent in one of our beautiful grass covered fields, secluded and private retreats, or under some ancient old trees, and enjoy access to 263 acres of pure nature. You can go fishing, swimming, hiking, or sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature on this farm out in the country. You can even go wading in a beautiful creek. Get off the beaten path, and maybe even turn your phone off for a couple of days... .

Large parking lot but watch for low power lines. Beach Cruiser Bicycle repair and gas motorized bicycle repair and sales. Have bicycle tires tubes and many bicycle parts in stock!
I only have 1 site renting, the parking lot is never crowded with other vehicles. Great place to park, no detours off of HWY 29, just pull in and pull out, circular drive and parking lot. Direct access to other Highways like Hwy 65. No alcohol at this campsite, serenity. AA meetings if you would like. Property established in 1963.

This property right on the upper Escambia River is easy to get to, fast enough away to feel like you're in the wilderness, but close enough to allow you to see everything you want. The site is an easy pull through. And unique to camps I've see so far, the sewer has an RV connection. No need to use your elbow. Just screw your sewer line directly to the sewer. Brilliant!
Richard and his wife were the best hosts, getting me as I arrived and checking on me throughout my stay. I highly recommend staying here.

Camping at the Wandering Path was perfect. Throughout the trip, it was obvious that Amanda worked very hard to create and maintain a wonderful location/experience. She was always available if any help was needed and very kind with every interaction. The land itself was beautiful, peaceful, and very clean. The rules were very simple and also helped create a positive experience. This was easily one of the best locations we have camped at as a family.

The Wandering Path is an amazing and peaceful getaway. The yurts offer the perfect setup for any season and eliminates a lot of packing. Amanda’s property has everything you need…the cleanest bathhouse I have yet to see and an awesome communal outdoor kitchen. There are primitive sites as well. The creek that runs along the property is crystal clear water with white sand banks throughout. It is deep enough to kayak or shallow enough to walk in and enjoy. The Wandering Path is the ultimate getaway location!

We used to go to a place nearby that recently closed down but after visiting The Wondering Path for a 5 night primitive stay I wish I had found this place earlier! The grounds are small and well kept while keeping nature the priority and even when it’s full it didn’t ever feel cramped. Amanda was amazing and even checked in on use when she didn’t have to and went beyond what I expected with attentiveness.

The creek side campsite was absolutely magical! Bath house and pavilion were adorably rustic (one of the best feeling showers of my life!) Honestly wasn't bothered by the lack of cell service, this spot was 200% the peaceful vacation retreat I was looking for!!

My wife and I really enjoy this camping/glamping area really was so much more then expected, Amanda came and meet us and said hi she was so respectful and also the fire wood we bought from her is really nice also I can not express in words how beautiful this area is you need to see The Wandering Path with your own eyes would definitely plan on visiting again

My night here was peaceful and quiet. I needed some time away from the lights and this spot is definitely something I was looking for. I camped in the primitive 5 site which is right along the river. Amanda was very nice and welcoming! I recommend staying a night or two here.

Just a lovely place to get away & relax by the creek. Couldn’t have asked for more. Site #5 was perfect. Had private creek access from our campsite with a couple of steep steps down & used a rope to pull ourselves back up. This place was adorable & very well maintained. The camp host, Amanda, is nice & welcoming. We can’t wait to come back!

Wandering path was pleasant, clean and located on a refreshing spring fed river. We really enjoyed that it was remote and we could have a nice get away from the city. The outdoor kitchen was a great asset!

Everything was set up great! The spots were easy to identify and the directions for getting there helped greatly.
Tent site 8 was fantastic. There was a wheel barrel provided that came in handy for getting the cooler there. The common kitchen area saved the night for cooking dinner one day that I struggled with a fire. Cleaning up dishes there was very convenient. The bathrooms were clean and fantastic.
The location on cold water creek was my favorite part about this place. There's a couple beautiful sandbars to relax on the creeks edge.
Overall, a wonderful, peaceful, and well equipped campground for a trip outdoors.

Amanda was very nice. We had minimal interaction, but that's the whole point, right?
The stream/river was so refreshingly cool and relaxing. The best about it was just sitting down and listening to absolutely nothing, except that stream. No ambulances, no motorcycles, do squealing tires, just... quiet.
The yurts and bathhouse were cozy and clean. Very comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
For those technology-inclined I did have decent cell service and there is electricity in the yurts. But, try to disconnect and experience nature if you visit here. Listen to the water, the birds, the wind; not TikTok

Amanda is a very welcoming host. The land has several sites on it, but you wouldn't know it, as they are all spaced well enough apart that everyone has ample privacy. The restroom was always clean and stocked. The shower was hot! The kitchen shelter is a nice addition for those who are tent camping.
