Right by the shores of Cascade Lake. Just down the road from Tamarack Resort. Walking distance to the Fishing Bridge and Mountain Meadows Adventure Rentals. You can fish from the bridge, rent a jet-ski and go on the lake, or take an off-road vehicle and ride in the mountains - right from your campsite. There is even a small pond on the property. Some history and geography: Where are the Falls? I wondered that myself when first bought the property. I have asked around and done some research - and come up with two answers, although I can't verify either one. First Answer: The old Tamarack Falls have been covered up by the reservoir. That is, there used to be a waterfall in this vicinity, but now it is covered up by Lake Cascade. Maybe, but I can't find any old photographs showing that, and the reservoir has never gotten low enough to see any falls. In fact, at low level, the upper reaches just look like a meadow with the original channel of the Payette River meandering through. But maybe at the narrows by the Fishing Bridge it is possible there are some submerged falls there. Second Answer: The Falls are still there, but they also are not the classic water falls you might imagine. Instead they are the numerous streams that gush down West Mountain every spring and really never completely dry up, even in a dry autumn. They are quite pretty, but not exactly a roaring mountain waterfall. These streams can be seen everywhere, especially in the spring, and they to tumble down a steep slope. They come right out of the rocky faces of the tamarack forest, so it makes sense to call them Tamarack Falls. They are all over the place. At least two of these streams ( and more in the spring) feed the pond on this property. Hence Tamarack Falls Pond. The pond is "artificial" in the sense that it was created when fill dirt used to build West Mountain Road blocked the stream and created a small pond. The pond stays at a constant level because its outflow is a culvert that runs under West Mountain Road and from there into Lake Cascade. Two main streams feed the pond - one on the northside and one on the southside. The shape of the two little submerged valleys give the pond a lopsided crescent shape with a small peninsula curving out into the middle of the pond's west side.

Built in the 1940's by the late actor Eugene Pallette as a hideaway from Hollywood and a Refuge from looming world disaster after World War 2. There once was a cannery, a power plant a sawmill and a 5,000 sq' concrete warehouse built to withstand anything and house years of provisions. Many buildings are still standing and utilized.  The past guest list included Cark Gable (Gone with The Wind) Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan and Errol Flynn and many more. Located on the shores of the Imnaha river we have 2 miles of accessible, private spots. There is a lot of wildlife here and there is no better place to "unwind" and regroup. Pitch your tent in total privacy along the shores of the River and then kick back and take in all the sights and sounds of Nature. Surrounded by canyons on all sides tucked away in a private Valley is 300+ acres of room to roam along the river.   We have firewood and frozen bottles of water for coolers available for an extra charge And have added 3 outhouses. Potable water, picnic tables, and outhouses on site. Pets are welcome. Camp fires are permitted outside of a fire ban. Our guests love staying here: "Camping at the ranch was pure enjoyment. We did not see or hear anything but the rushing river and the surrounding woods. The stars at night we’re amazing and there was plenty to explore on the property and nearby."

Camp Last Light is a private, primitive campsite perched high above the Joseph Plains, offering breathtaking views of some of Idaho County’s most rugged and beautiful landscapes. This is a true dry campsite—there is no running water, electricity, restroom, or developed facilities, so guests should arrive prepared for a primitive camping experience. However, firewood is provided, and while there is no water available directly at the campsite, the camp host lives year-round just three minutes away and can provide a reasonable amount of water upon request. What Camp Last Light lacks in traditional campground amenities, it makes up for with unmatched views, privacy, convenience, and location. For those familiar with dispersed camping in the Joseph Plains, this campsite offers an elevated experience: the simplicity and solitude of backcountry camping combined with a private designated site, provided firewood, a nearby host, and an ideal basecamp for hunting and exploring the surrounding wilderness. For hunters, the location is especially unique. Camp Last Light offers some of the best glassing opportunities in the entire Joseph Plains area, with sweeping views across miles of surrounding terrain. Guests can glass directly from camp, watching distant ridges, draws, and timber without ever leaving their chair. The campsite sits on 25.85 acres of private, forested land directly adjacent to approximately 2,308 acres of public land, greatly expanding the hunting and recreational opportunities available right from camp. Instead of spending each morning breaking down camp or driving long distances, hunters can use Camp Last Light as a comfortable basecamp and head directly into a large area of public ground. Camping does not include hunting privileges on the private 25.85 acres where the campground is located. However, registered guests may add private-land hunting access for an additional $50 per day. This provides the opportunity to hunt the property itself, subject to all applicable Idaho hunting seasons, licenses, tags, and regulations. Camp Last Light may not be the cheapest place to pitch a tent in the Joseph Plains—and that is intentional. What you are paying for is a rare location that offers what typical dispersed campsites cannot: incredible views, exceptional glassing, direct access to thousands of acres of hunting country, optional private-land hunting access, and true peace and solitude. The Evans Farm is a Century Farm which has been in our family for three generations (with the fourth generation children enjoying it now).  It was a self sufficient family farm for many years with Jersey Dairy cattle, Suffolk Sheep, pigs, quality horses, both Draft and Riding, and a flock of chickens.  A large garden supplied family vegetables.  A love for the land and the area were all part of the Farm. Located two miles from Joseph, three miles from Wallowa Lake, and close to hiking, fishing, camping, and outdoor adventures, the Farm is secluded but offers easy access to the surrounding area.

Beautiful property featuring a rustic 1920s cabin (our home), located just minutes from the head of Wallowa Lake. The lot is over an acre and backs up to the Wallowa River. The driveway to the flag lot provides additional privacy and serenity. Nestled against Chief Joseph Mountain, the property offers a peaceful natural setting. The river flows along the lower portion of the property, and a small pond fed by an underground spring is located near the campsite. There are also several mature evergreen trees throughout the property. The tent camping area is located on the lower level of the property behind the cabin and is accessible by a steep gravel path (foot traffic only). A fire pit is available for use unless fire restrictions are in effect. The property is within walking distance of Wallowa Lake State Park and Marina, Wallowa Lake Lodge, the Wallowa Lake Tramway, trailheads, go-karts, horseback riding, miniature golf, fishing, and a variety of local shops, restaurants, and coffee carts. Some businesses operate seasonally, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
