Owners were super nice and helpful. The setting is very quiet. The camping area is quirky and fun (decor and appointments). Great sunset and overview of Albequerque at night.

I can’t recommend this place enough! We thoroughly enjoyed the view, the sweet touches (like the beautiful solar lights), the commitment to sustainability, and the graciousness of the hosts. And our time with the animals was beyond fun! If we’re ever traveling back this way, we’ll definitely seek out this lovely desert homestead again.

Our Desert Homestead - RV Site
We loved our stay! It felt remote and peaceful, yet was just 10 minutes away from shops/restaurants. The property is beautifully decorated and we loved being able to hang out with the farm animals. The bathroom was nicer than many stage parks. Highly recommended for a fun family getaway!

This was our first Hip Camp experience as we normally camp in state and national parks and we really enjoyed it. Heidi and Khalil are welcoming and friendly hosts and offer a fun and funky alternative camping spot. We loved the sunset view with the distant city lights, the enormous night sky, the sounds of bleating baby goats and a morning rooster, meeting interesting fellow campers, and the occasional visits from Peaches and Bandit (the hosts dogs) who checked on us throughout our stay. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an off-grid, alternative camping experience. Thanks for sharing your property with us!

This is one of the most fun hipcamps we have stayed with. Heidi and her husband Khalil have us really easy check in directions and met us at the camp. We were only staying one night so we didn’t u hook our 13 foot scamp, but there is ample space for rvs! The main camp has a composting toilet and garbage and recycling receptacles. We paid a little extra to feed the goats on their goat farm and it has been the highlight of our road trip so far. You will feel welcome and at home and will hear owls! there is also an amazing view of the mountains and some fun common areas to gather at. Awe highly recommend this hipcamp!!

Heidi and Khalil’s hobby farm/glampsite property really felt like a home away from home for my friend Abby and I. Heidi and Khalil were a big part of that with their friendliness and welcoming attitudes. The glamping canvas tent we stayed in was kept warm despite a March snowy cold snap and they were highly responsive. Farm fresh eggs were a must and the farm tour complete with goat milking and feeding is something I will always remember (and I already want to go back and do it again). Not to mention I loved the farm fresh eggs!! Wonderful wonderful wonderful experience!!!!

Our Desert Homestead - RV Site
We cannot give Heidi, Khalil, and their piece of land enough praise. They were communicative and descriptive which made even our late night arrival smooth and comfortable. We bought two dozen fresh eggs and had a blast looking at all the animals. Everything we needed was within reach. The view was beautiful, and the property has a fun and original setup.
In addition to providing this beautiful space, they went above and beyond being camp hosts and treated us like friends, going so far as to help us problem-solve while we were there and even once we moved on to our next destination. We had such a wonderful time and it truly made our trip even more special. We highly recommend adding Our Desert Homestead as a destination.

Incredibly nice host's and a warm, cozy tent made this a great overnight stop on our road trip. The tent is located about 50 yards from the main house with lot's of animals in between. Goats, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys will start trying to talk to you around 4am. Where as the tent has a nice heater, the bathroom has none. They use a compost system, so be prepared to sprinkle the saw dust.
We paid for the animal tour and our whole family had a fun time. We feed all the animals listed above, went on an egg hunt in the chicken coop and learned how to milk a goat.
They're still in the process of building and expanding the farm, so it has the potential to look great, but it currently has a lot of building supplies and recycled goods scattered about that gives it a junk yard vibe.
I'm looking forward to see how the farm grows.

Such a beautiful place and beyoutiful people who own it! Great earthy open friendly easy going vibe out there! We absolutely loved it and I wish we could have stayed longer! We will be back next time we’re in Abq! We got to milk and feed the goats in the morning and Heidi was so sweet and shared some of her farming knowledge with us... so grateful to have had the experience and to have met such kind hearted people in such a beautiful state! 🙏🍃 Thank you!

Great little off-grid spot just outside of Albuquerque. Perfect place for us to stay before heading to Petroglyph National Monument in the morning. Tent sites were tucked back off the main road with a composting toilet and a group seating area with paths lit with string lights.

Heidi and Khalil were such kind and gracious hosts - after a full day of driving it was such a relief to enter a warm and toasty tent. My dog didn’t want to leave (the heater!) Cannot wait to visit again.

I would like to sincerely thank Our Desert Homestead for the opportunity to stay at their wonderful location. It sits above and away from the city, but not that far away. This was perfect for my travel itinerary as I needed to be near Albuquerque with easy access to 550. As promised, Our Desert Homestead offers a peaceful location in the desert with great views of the sky, city and mountain range beyond. Our hosts provided us a thorough guided tour of their off grid living preparations which we listened to with great interest.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this desert hideaway RV park. Heidi and Khalil were warm, generous hosts. We loved the fairy lights, the soon-to-be finished Breaking Bad communal kitchen and of course all the farmyard animals.

We decided to camp at our desert homestead after our original hip camp site didn’t work out (turns out it was better suited for an RV and we have a tent trailer that requires staking) and reserved a spot at around 1 am in the morning. When we arrived it was dark and honestly somewhat creepy but when Khalil and Heidi greeted us in the morning our spirits were instantly lightened by their warm and welcoming hearts and infectious personalities. I won’t sugercoat it, their property is a work in progress but it’s such a great place if you’re into up cycling and renewable energy. Between the several farm tours and solar setup tours they offer you will not be disappointed nor out of things to do. Plus while you’re out in the middle of nowhere you’re also not really as Walmart is less than 10 minutes away, Albuquerques best pizza joint, Dions is not much further and to top it off you get some of the best 5G cell reception coming off the sandias I think we’ve ever had. It’s really a unique, one of a kind place with some of the best people running it and we will definitely be returning to this beacon of hope in the desert.

Our stay in ABQ with Heidi was very nice. The camping area was small but safe and secure. The other guests were quiet and courteous during our evening. Despite our unfamiliarity with composting toilets, the facilities were clean, well kept, and not intimidating at all.
Heidi greeted us and showed us to our site and was more than accommodating. We were in and out for Fiesta, but our stay was very pleasant! Would recommend to any traveler!

This was my second time at this site. They make everything very easy for us. It’s a great place and it was nice they had firewood available to buy for a lot cheaper than anywhere else! They are so kind and helped with anything we need!

Our Desert Homestead - Tent Sites
Came in after hours when it was dark. They provided excellent directions that were easy to follow. Cute common area with yard games that we didn’t get to use but was nice that they were provided. Campsites were kind of close but everyone was quiet and respectful. Would stay there again!
