Parking is separate from the campground! It is a brief but steep 1/4 mile hike to get to the main campground and latrine. Bring hiking shoes and pack light. It takes most people 5-15 minutes to hike up, depending on fitness level and load size . If you want to car camp, you will be next to a road and separate from the latrine and fire pit.
Enjoy several short trails on the camp's property before heading to Forest Park's
Wildwood Trail, which is just up the street, or check out all of the incredible natural and urban nearby attractions in Portland.
We are about 20 minutes away Portland's International Rose Test Garden , The Oregon Zoo, and Pittock Mansion

This campsite offers a serene and thoughtfully curated experience, with guests enjoying amenities like hammocks, swings, and fairy gardens that add to the whimsical atmosphere. The site is praised for its privacy and proximity to nature trails, though campers should be prepared for a steep hike to reach it. Despite being close to the city, it manages to feel secluded, making it a great quick retreat option. However, some visitors noted occasional noise from planes and nearby roads, so light sleepers might want to come prepared.

This place seems great for groups, I just went solo for one night. Definitely underestimated the hike to the site but it’s doable! It was pretty steep and gravel can be slippery going down so be mindful of what you bring to avoid multiple trips. It’s secluded enough but you can still hear cars and an occasional plane at night. Loved the outhouse and the many amenities included. I would definitely come back with a group of people!

Great place to stay! Super responsive host. The space was very welcoming and private. Our dogs loved it. Lots of useful things like the propane stove, string lights, and washing station. Hike up is short, but definitely steep. We will be back!

This was our second summer camping at Akitaaru with our very young kids, and we love it so much. Such a special space, fun even when it's raining (the tree cover kept it pretty light even when it was pouring at the road), and so close to Sauvie's island adventures. The big swing was a great new addition! Thank you Moriah!

The host is so communicative and helpful and the campground is extremely well kept. Exactly as described in listing.
This space is so thoughtfully planned out.
The swing and hammocks are so relaxing, the little fairy gardens and games add so much sprinkled in joy, making it a great place for families or anyone that appreciates whimsy.
The giant trees are very peaceful and there were so many perfect spots for a tent.
I would absolutely recommend this spot. So cute. Felt very secluded but has close access to so many trails. Seriously if you can book this place and you’re looking for a forest park retreat it’s the one. Pack light though, they’re not joking about that hike in being all uphill.

We loved camping here with our kid for their first camping experience. They loved all the little gnomes and fairy gardens hidden about. The site was spacious and had everything we needed and more. Very thoughtful layout and included amenities. The bathroom/outhouse was super cute and perfect for a more comfortable experience. The short trail up was perfect for a quick hike feel without being too much for the little one. The site felt very private and remote even though it was so close to the city, perfect for a quick retreat. We definitely plan to return and could see it being perfect for sharing with a couple more tents. The only thing I would change is bringing some ear plugs for the night. There were a couple of planes that woke us up, not super frequent but also not surprising considering being so close to the city. If you’re a light sleeper ear plugs could be a help.

Moriah's place is amazing! She has created such a welcoming, beautiful, calm and peaceful getaway. It was a short but sweet stay and exactly what our pups and us needed. I highly recommend adding on a bouquet, you won't be disappointed. They're absolutely stunning!
I highly recommend her spot and we'll definitely be staying again!

Book it if you can!
Tent · With kids
My kids had a wonderful time from start to finish! They immediately noticed all the small touches throughout the site and found adventure discovering the different activities the land had to offer. Recommend to two friends before we were there even 24hrs and will continue to do so😁
Feels private and secluded but many things are near by should you need anything.
Moriah is kind and responsive - her husband brought up some shavings for the potty with their youngest and they were friendly as well!
My family and I will likely book again in the future💕

The space was incredible, and a steal of a deal. Plenty of room for a solo traveler, and a great layout for families and larger groups.
Had a peaceful sleep amongst the trees and was well rested for a big road day the following morning.
Highly recommend!

If you would like to stay in a fairy oasis camp, this is the spot for you!!! Yes, you have to walk up a short steep hill to get there, but walking through a forest to camp just feels right. Moriah has done an amazing job with this spot. There’s the coziest pit toilet I’ve ever seen here. So many spots to cozy up with a book, stretch, and do all the camping things. If you can, check this spot out! Thank you, Moriah!

Best Hipcamp 2026!
Tent
As soon as you get to the top of that steep lil hill, you'll understand why this place was voted one of the best Hipcamp's last year. It is clear that Moriah and her family take joy in creating a relaxing and beautiful area filled with fairies, gnomes and all sorts of little fun discoveries for their guests. I spent so much time on the bench swing and in the hammock; it's hard to leave. I immediately booked a second night and this will be my go-to place whenever I'm visiting or passing through the Portland area, and I'll be sure to tell all my traveling friends too!

Steep hill is no joke!
Tent · With pets
Tent camping here was a blast! The strenuous hike up was no joke. My husband and I were full sweat by the time we made our two trips to the car and back for our stuff. I really want to stress that the “strenuous” part of the hike needs to be taken into account! The house on the property was not far away, but the campsite was still incredibly private. A great stay!

Cute spot close to Portland
Tent
I loved all the amenities on this site - the swinging chairs, jenga, tic tac toe, handwashing station and the compost toilet. There was a propane fire pit due to the current burn ban. The entry is definitely steep, we managed a wagon up it but that was a bit difficult. Took about 5 minutes or less to walk up.

A repeat camp spot for me and my son (11)!
Nice to have a private area for us to explore, be safe, secluded, but close to home. Beautiful land and surroundings.
The host is the MOST amazing person 💓
The hike is strenuous but we still bring our 9 person tent for 2 lol. Pack accordingly + bug spray. Its our go-to spot!

Awesome site! A few switchbacks to get to the site but it’s worth the short hike. The site itself is equipped with its own fire pit, dining tables, etc, so you don’t need to bring a lot. It’s a large campsite to yourself surrounded by tall PNW trees. Great for families or a short solo trip from the city!

Climbing to magic!
Tent
What a gem! So accessible for a quick trip close by. Well worth the climb. Definitely travel light, like backpacking light, the grade is calf-stretching-lean-into-it at a couple of points. Great fire pit area, cute toilet (for real) and a swinging bench. Also included is a handwashing station, cooking area and 2 picnic tables. I spent most of the day reading on the bench, so relaxing! The string lights are super cute at night and there are magical little things tucked around every corner. Children who are into fairies and little people will enjoy this. Also, I love love that they planted ferns. I’m planning on coming back next year to see their growth. It’s going to look great along the paths and around the fire pit. Thanks for the hospitality and I’ll be back!

Adorable spot! Well tended and beautiful. And yes, the hike up is STEEP! Luckily I was able to make it up there in one trip. Once up high, it was lovely. I arrived at dusk on a Friday. Planes flying overhead were only an issue until 10pm or so, and then again at about 7am. Definitely recommend this spot.
