A network of rural, single track roads lead you to the four pods at Castle Farm Holidays. Sheep and cattle dot the surrounding fields and, in the nearby sleepy hamlet of Dudleston the tower of a stony 12th-century church stands tall among the surroundings. It’s a wonderfully rural scene. For those seeking a little silence and a space to hideaway, these country lanes are bound for the right destination.

Set at one end of a rectangular field, next to a small, wooded dell with a stream running through it, Castle Farm’s pods aim to offer a year-round alternative to camping. Inside, the insulated pods feature cushioned benches that can be converted into beds and a small kitchenette area with a microwave, kettle and fridge. You still have to bring your own bedding and the modern shower block is just a short stroll away, but for those who really want to minimize the packing, the ‘Willow’ pod offers a more luxurious package – it has a proper bed, separate sofa and a hot tub outside.

Outside, the dell attracts fledgling birds and wildlife, while the open space of the meadow leaves ample room for families. Bring a ball or a kite to make the most of all the space. For many, though, the rural location is best for walking and it’s just a matter of metres to the nearest footpath. The Welsh border, two miles away, is marked by the curling River Dee, its valley a wonder to explore, while driving a little further towards the Berwyn Mountains provides access to the Offa’s Dyke path, and Wales highest waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeadr.

Oak Glamping Pod
My family loved staying at Helen's camp. Day before arrival we managed to upgrade our stay and add (at additional charge) the hot tub. My kids just loved it. It is great base if you wish to hike or go water rafting. Helen greeted us on a day and was very helpful. We highly reccomend the camp and hopefully we will return. Beautiful, quiet place. The toilet facilities were surprisingly plush and were well maintained. Pleasant staff, would definitely return and recommend. If there was one improvement I'd make, it would be to extend the car park a little, as it's narrow which can be difficult when all the pods are booked out.

We loved staying in Ash Pod. It's so quiet round there. We had everything we needed: kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, and the showers and toilets were modern with lots of hot water. We also enjoyed the fire pit and toasting marshmallows. We went for a woodland walk beside the Mere at Ellesmere and visited Llangollen and the Chirk Aqueduct. All very interesting.

We Definitely will be back, the site is so peaceful with loads of space around the pods, the facilities are excellent as well. The showers and toilets are clean and more of them than most big campsites. Plus they have a bonus little common room with seating in for everyone to enjoy. The dog loved it here, you are allowed bbq's and fire pits. What more can I say. We all loved it. 😍 Thanks Helen

We had all the pods to ourselves it was fantastic so relaxing. The views are lovely we was greeted by cows in the next field which was very nice. Everyone had a great time especially the birthday girl. Thank you so much Helen for everything.

Oak Glamping Pod
I have done my fair share of glamping but I must say how enjoyable this experience was. We booked rather last minute and during half term. I have struggled in the past with ‘dog friendly’ accommodation however Helen and Martin went above and beyond. The farm is safe and secure, complimentary dog treats on arrival, doggy bins and acres of land for our furry friends to run free. The pod was so clean. Tea, coffee, hot choc and fresh milk provided on arrival. The communal areas were spacious with extremely good, hot water pressure and they were spotless. Most importantly, the farm is very eco-friendly. All recycling facilities available which are emptied more regularly than others. I can’t wait to return. Thanks again for making myself, my baby brother and our Dog feel so welcome.

Bluebell Shepherds Hut with hot tub
Castle Farm is lovely - the pods are very cosy - we stayed in Bluebell and we couldn't fault it. The beds were comfy and it is so pretty. As seasoned campers it was nice to be provided with bedding and crockery/cutlery! Our kids loved sitting in front of the fire pit in the evening and our dog loved everyhing, especially the field where she could run off lead. The location is great - close to Ellesmere and LLangollen. Our hosts were lovely - they came to say hi and bye and were nearby if we needed them. We would recommend to anyone, and wil definitly go back again.

Willow Pod with hot tub
Myself and my wife have just got back from a two night stay at Castle Farm and we very much enjoyed our stay, a small secluded peaceful site in a lovely countryside location, Helen (the owner) came to introduce herself on our arrival and then left us to enjoy our stay, we took up Helens offer of a fire pit, fire lighters, matches, kebab sticks and marshmallows for just £20 which we thought good value. The toilets and showers are very clean and tidy. There are plenty of lovely places to visit nearby, Llangollen and Ellesmere to name a couple. Overall an enjoyable stay.

We stayed recently over the bank holiday weekend. Helen (the owner) introduced herself when we arrived but then left us to our own devices. The covid setup, giving us private use of the male shower block was excellent, the facilities are first class and would not be out of place on a much larger site! The pods are spacious and well equipped. Super warm with electric radiators. The site is on a lovely country. Tucked out of the way. We felt welcomed and at ease. Our dog also enjoyed the freedom to wander about. I would highly recommend !

We recently stayed over the bank holiday weekend. Helen ( the owner) introduced herself when we arrived but left us to our own devices during the stay. The covid setup, giving us our own private use of the mens shower block was great. The facilities for a small site are first class and would not be out of place on a much larger site. The pods are a great size and surprisingly spacious, well equipped and super warm with the electric radiators. The site is in a lovely little country lane setting, out of the way. We felt welcomed and at ease during our stay. We also took our dog, who was free to wander about. Highly recommended!

Myself, my husband and our two children aged 8 and 6 stayed in Bluebell Shepherds Hut. The accommodation was lovely and well equipped. It has crockery, cups and glasses plus a fridge and microwave. We only needed to take clothes toiletries and a portable bbq. The site is small and very well kept and the showers were spotless with lots of hot water. The area is peaceful and relaxing with wonderful views. None of us wanted to leave. Thank you Helen for your wonderful hospitality and we will see you again.

Willow Pod with hot tub
We stayed here for 2 nights this weekend, it was spotless abs due to current restrictions we had our own shower/toilet. The hot tub was excellent very clean, lovely and hot and also spotless. The place was so peaceful with beautiful scenery. Helen the owner was lovely, she came to check all was ok and if we needed anything and left us alone to enjoy the peace. She was only a short walk away if we did👍🏼 I would recommend a stay and we’re looking forward to going back .

Can't recommend this place enough! Hosts were really helpful and added little personal touches when we arrived. Felt really safe and clean too in the current climate, with every pod having their own toilet/shower facilities. Location is great too, with beautiful places to visit only a short drive away. A well needed break, thank you so much.

Oak Glamping Pod
We are a family of 4, two adults and two children aged 4 and 8. The Oak pod had everything we needed. The kettle and toaster was perfect for us to make breakfast and enjoy on the decked area in the morning. The pod was immaculately clean and even had tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk ready for our arrival. Things had been put into place to allow for social distancing. We had a toilet and shower block to ourselves. We enjoyed evenings around the fire pit toasting marshmallows and there was plenty of space around the pods for our boys to play. It was just what our family needed, time together in beautiful surroundings. A huge thank you to Helen - we will definitely be back!

Me and friend just returned from a lovely 3 nights in Beech pod, castle farm. Due to Covid regulations we were slightly concerned about how the trip would go down but Helen was lovely and incredibly accommodating, giving us the entire women's bathroom area so we could have privacy and safety. The pod was comfy, warm and had al the facilities we needed. The best part was paying extra for a campfire which we could purchase more wood if we ran out, the highlight was watching the fire burn throughout the evening with a glass of wine. We loved the nearby lake of Ellesmere where you can hire your own rowing boat, really fun! And a beautiful drive to Wales to see the waterfall was a definite must. We will be back! Thank you for an incredible trip.

Bluebell Shepherds Hut with hot tub
Castle Farm is situated in a beautiful area, total peace and quiet. We stayed in the willow pod with a hot tub and my god what an amazing experience., we were fortunate enough to have descent weather so sitting in the hot tub whilst dark underneath crystal clear skies was fantastic. The pod itself is comfy, clean and has tea sugar coffee hot choc marshmallows and dog treats which I think is a lovely touch and much appreciated. The safety measures put in place due to covid are brilliant, each pod has its own allocated shower/toilet block so no sharing with other glampers. For all your essentials, there is Stans Superstore just down the road and he literally sells everything. I would definitely recommend staying here, we can't wait to come back. Helen is on the ball, nothing is to much mither for her and we cannot thank her enough for her help. Thank you Helen, we will be back.

Willow Pod with hot tub
I Booked a weekend at the Willow Pod for my partners Birthday. We have a new pup therefore needed somewhere dog friendly. What a find. Great location. Peaceful. Very prompt communication from Helen. The hot tub was a good added extra and we enjoyed our marshmellows on the firepit. Pontcysyllte aqueduct and the town of Llangollen are worth a visit. Thanks for our wonderful stay.

Castle farm is beautiful and in a lovely area to explore. The pods and facilities are clean and have everything you need. It was perfect for us to relax and my son to Play. The dogs loved it too. A perfect spot for the whole family to get away in a lovely, friendly environment.

We enjoyed a 2 night stay in the willow pod, the pod and all the facilities were spotless, the site was beautiful with enough space between the pods that you are completely private. Helen was quick and efficient replying to my emails and you can tell great care is taken preparing the pods for your arrival. We had a very relaxing and peaceful weekend here for my birthday, can’t fault at all and have already booked my next visit.

We stayed in the Bluebell Shepherds Hut and had a lovely time. The double pull out bed could be split easily in to two separate beds for out children. The beds were comfortable and it was great having the option to hire a fire pit, we all enjoyed toasting things.

Willow Pod with hot tub
We had a lovely break away for my daughter’s birthday. We stayed in the Willow pod with the hot tub which was amazing & hot on arrival. It was a beautiful location and so peaceful. The pod was very clean and comfortable. We had a lovely walk along the country lanes and went for a meal at the Boathouse, which was amazing. We also visited the famous Stans and wished we had one by us, it was the best. Helen was so efficient with her emails. We will definitely be staying again in the future. Thank you

Beautiful, serene location with a lovely pub and lots of great places to visit within 10-20 minutes away. The pod was immaculate, and suprisingly snug and warm at night. We stayed in the Ash pod, and found the bed very comfortable and perfect for a good night's sleep after all the country air! Definitely worth a visit if you're looking to escape the day-to-day and relax.

Nearby attractions
The small, lakeside, market town of Ellesmere is a 10-minute drive away (5 miles). You can hire rowing boats and paddle out on the beautiful mere (lake) and there are 8 further meres nearby, most of which can be walked around on marked footpaths. Hop on board a steam train (01978 860979) in nearby Llangollen (12 miles) – on occasion Thomas the Tank Engine even visits – but stop en route to snap a photo of impressive Pontcysyllte Aqueduct spanning across the River Dee just south of Cefn-mawr. It's 7½ miles to National Trust-owned Chirk Castle (01691 777701), a Medieval bulwark with grand 18th-century state apartments, suits of armour and manicured gardens to explore. One final 'must visit' is Pistyll Rhaeadr (01691 780392), and enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains and the highest waterfall in Wales. You can walk to the top, then have a well deserved rest in the café at the foot of the falls on your return.
