A secluded lakeside campsite to fall in love with

People seem to fall in love with Brook Meadow. And there's no need to take our word for it – just check out it's five star reviews. It does feel like a special place to camp. Perhaps it’s the sunsets over the lake? The cattle grazing peacefully in the neighbouring fields? The hundreds of stars clearly visible on a cloud-free night? Or perhaps it’s the philosophy of farmers Jasper and Mary who want people to come and enjoy their land. This even extends to providing free camping for groups of young people hiking and camping towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

It’s a peaceful, secluded site with 50 pitches and a handful of glamping options spread over 15 acres and around a five-acre fishing lake. Ducks waddle around and you might catch a glimpse of the resident wildlife – deer, hares, red kites – or hear owls hooting in the night. It feels (and is) very spacious. Some of the best pitches are around the fishing lake on the lower of the two fields (shared with three holiday chalets), although families with kids tend to opt for the top field for The Mound, which kids love to scramble on. The lakeside Nuthatch Cabin and the Out of Africa-themed bell tent are the romantic options. Both offer picturesque views of the lake and have plenty of their own space; suitable for couples or families of up to four.

You can get a taste of farm life by helping Mary collect eggs from the site's resident chickens or join in with an occasionally-available farm tour (just register your interest at reception). Off site, there are a couple of high-adrenaline neighbours: Avalanche Adventures next door, where you can hire quad bikes or try your hand at clay pigeon shooting and other outdoor activities; and the Gliding Centre at Husbands Bosworth Airfield just down the road, where you can get a birds-eye view of the site as you drift by overhead. After all the excitement, the peace and quiet of site is the perfect place to relax. Sit around the campfire and enjoy a BBQ dinner or take your camping chairs to the semi-outdoor cinema in the open-sided barn where family favourites are screened.

Really enjoyed camping at Brook Meadow, plenty of lovely pitches to pick from, ours was right next to the lake whish was perfect for camping. Facilities were really nice and lots of activities going on at the site. Will be booking again next year.

Lovely host and lovely area but way to many people and way to loud. Kids screaming constantly day and night. Wouldn’t recommend during school holidays but I imagine that it would be lovely a different time of year

Had a wonderful few days here last week. Spacious site surrounding a fishing lake with the best toilet and shower facilities I’ve ever seen at a UK campsite! Staff were all super friendly and site is very well maintained. It isn’t the cheapest site and it does get busy with families during the summer but it is still excellent

As a lone female traveller I felt very safe here. Wash facilities were lovely, scenery was gorgeous and helped having wifi so I could use apple maps to get to my next destination. Lady at reception was welcoming and friendly, really lovely vibe, will stay again.

this is my second time going to this campsite in 1 month it's really amazing place. staff are very kind and friendly hot water all the time toilets are clean the only problem for me is i can only go camping for one night but I had always to book for 2 nights i would love to be able to book one night only otherwise, highly recommended

We’ve been at Brook for 2 nights and we loved it, very quiet and plenty of space, I know it’s end of season but we pretty much had a whole field by ourselves. There’s a communal Lodge with cooking facilities and nice showers. And nice to have the pizza van coming in for the evening. Recommend!

The campsite is rural and tranquil, the movie night in the barn is great fun for the children and adults for some restbite! Pizza van was lovely and the coffee shop too. Facilities were clean but as a few people mentioned some of them could do with a bit of a refresh which I am sure will happen over winter. Price reflects what you get in my opinion. Very family friendly and welcoming for dogs.

Lovelly place friendly people toilets and showers very clean. Fridge very clean and checked everyday. Husband loved the fishing would definitely recommend. Our dog loved it the ducks were very cute and afraid of nothing.

We loved camping in our campervan at Brook Meadow. The lake is stunning and there was lots of space for the children to run around. The rope swings and the communal tipi’s were our favourite feature.

What an amazing place. The pitches were large and the facilities were great and very clean. The kids loved the cinema and the pop up mexican on the Friday night was excellent. The pop up cafe on the Saturday and Sunday morning had some of the best cakes i had ever tried and the lady and her daughter that ran it were just amazing. I can not recommend this site highly enough.

Camping Anarchy in our opinion. ... i would strongly suggest a designated quiet camping area. we witnessed dogs off leads, very noisy very VERY large groups. all intermingled with those that just want a quiet relaxing weekend. people with disposable barbecues on the grass - which left it with black patches - no bricks provided. this is not nice for other campers. the loud clay pigeon shooting on going over the whole weekend was annoying...and very unsettling for lots of dogs and so many large family groups with lots of kids, setting up badminton nets, ball games, football - which drove our dog mad and was noisy for long periods - but what can one say??? Music - you either allow it or you don't - otherwise people push their luck, yes it was quiet after 10pm but too noisy before hand you need some sort of organisation with free camping non hook up grass pitches also, because like us we pitched up as did others but people then squeeze in to fill the gaps which leaves people with no space or privacy and too close. we were glad to get home and will never visit again its a lovely site but needs some serious management

Great site, plenty of space between pitches a few little spots you can tuck away in if you have a nervous dog like we have. Nice and clean facilities, lovely staff. Overall brilliant!!

The spot was great and facilities were excellent. Spots were well spaced out so should never feel hemmed in. Loved the lake close by to walk around with the dog first thing in the morning. Great comms too, would definitely return if we're back in Leicestershire.

This was a lovely open campsite, with lots of discreet camping pitches. We were treated to a display of glider fireworks on Friday night and woke to a sky of hot air balloons on Saturday morning, such a treat. Facilities were great and very clean. We would definitely go back

We are three friends who weave with willow. There was no better place than to sit by the lake, watch the carp leaping out of the water and weave. Toilets and showers were excellent. Check-in, and shop staff were friendly, funny and very helpful.

We have just returned from a weekend at brook meadow - staying in the Nuthatch Cabin and we couldn’t fault the place!!! The staff were warm and friendly on arrival and advised me on lots of nice places to go and places to see. They also offered to change our quilts to the brand new winter tog as we had just hit September but I said we would be fine. The site it’s self was clean and well maintain, the bathrooms were always clean and tidy and never too busy. They had given us the key for the disabled bathroom just to shorten the footfall on the site but this wasn’t needed. Washing up facilities were great too! The kids loved the organic play ground running up and down the mounds and in and out of the wooden houses, and particularly loved the swing rope. The nuthatch cabin itself was AMAZING! Very clean, tidy and homely! The flower and light ceiling was the icing on the cake! The beds were super comfy and the cabin itself was perfect temperature. I would recommend this site to anyone! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The breathtaking 5 acre lake looks like a place of natural beauty. With 20 acres designated for holidaying in the heart of the working farm you can enjoy the space and tranquillity of the setting and the variety of accommodation and activities on offer. As well as an idyllic location for camping, caravanning, and fishing Brook Meadow also offers:- 3 stunning self-catering lodges 1 lakeside cabin 1 "Out of Africa" - themed glamping 1 vintage airstream if you fancy glamp streaming! Our standout accommodation has gained wide recognition, is design led and unique to Brook Meadow. The campsite is informal, no regimented pitches yet cosy areas for groups to camp. Set 3 fields back from the road in the heart of the farm you may hear the faint noise of a glider overhead, farm vehicles or children playing, but otherwise you’ll likely forget all about ‘life outside’ as you drink in the restful lakeside setting. Brook Meadow has maintained its eco principles since conception with improvements continuing to enhance the eco friendly facilities and site. Nearby attractions

For outdoor activities there’s neighbouring Avalanche Adventures (01858 880613) and the Gliding Centre (01858 880521) at Husbands Bosworth Airfield less than five minutes down the road; both bookable in advance. More sedate alternatives include 18th-century Cottesbrooke Hall (01604 505808) and Althorp House (01604 770107; July-August), the latter being the Spencer family estate, home to Princess Diana’s island grave and a museum. The Kilworth House Hotel (01858 881939), a 10-minute drive away, also has an excellent outdoor theatre in a beautiful wooded glade close to the lake in the grounds of the house.

Food and drink

On selected Saturday evenings in the summer a woodfired pizza van arrives to make on-site dinners easy; check with reception for availability during your stay. Off site, The Red Lion in Sibbertoft (01858 880011) does great food and is just a mile away and The Wharf Inn at Welford (01858 575075), can be reached by footpath from the site. There's lots more information about places to eat out in the local area on site.
