An exclusive-hire site in Wiltshire that’s great for groups

A beautifully-crafted shepherd’s hut and a custom-made canvas tent are the heart of this exclusive-hire glamping site in a farmer’s field in Wiltshire. But that’s not all you get by booking a stay here. You also get a bell tent, a camp kitchen, a fire pit, and five acres all to yourselves – with the option of a wood-fired hot tub too. And why not? It seems like the perfect finishing touch to a hideaway that specialises in rustic, off-grid glamping for groups of up to 10.

With sleeping spaces split across two tents and the shepherd’s hut, Milton Farm Hideaway works best for two or three families or couples who want to holiday together. Everyone can gather around the fire pit or the cedar wood dining table of the camp kitchen and the whole group can play together in the field – but you also have plenty of your own space. The shepherd’s hut is, perhaps, the top spot thanks to the fact that it has its own kitchen, a log burner and an en suite. It sleeps three in a double bed with a bunk above. Another three can sleep in the bell tent and four more can occupy the custom-made tent. All are furnished and you can choose whether to bring your own bedding and towels for a great-value stay or book with everything provided for an easy weekend away.

You’ll find a guestbook in your accommodation that champions the local area and helps you get the best of your time here. This is the Cranbourne Chase National Landscape, part of rural west Wiltshire that’s known for its natural beauty and full of good food. Local walks are detailed to steer you to some of the nearby highlights; to the village of Hindon and its lovely pub, The Grosvenor Arms, or to English Heritage’s Old Wardour Castle. Shaftesbury is just six miles away and you’re close enough to Wiltshire’s big-hitting attractions for a visit: Longleat Safari Park and Stonehenge are both within a half-hour drive.

Milton Farm Hideaway is an exclusive 6 acre site for group bookings of up to 10 guests. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and official Dark Skies Reserve, only the clouds will stand between you and the stars! Milton Farm Hideaway
What a lovely stay! More than enough space for the 6 of us. Lots of land for our doggy to play on. Hot tub was lovely, beds were comfy. Super private. All in all a really wholesome, lovely stay. My only suggestion would be to bring more lighting as it can get quite dark even with a campfire going.

Nearby attractions

You can walk straight out from Milton Farm Hideaway into the neighbouring Haddon Woods or use local footpaths to explore the surrounding countryside. A welcome book details walks including ones to some of the good local pubs and a circular route to English Heritage’s Old Wardour Castle (four miles) – both use the Wessex Ridgeway long-distance footpath. Another good way to explore the countryside is by bike with ebikes available to hire from Cranks and Planks in Tisbury. The pretty town of Shaftesbury with its thatched cottages and cobbled, hillside streets is just six miles from site. It’s 16 miles to Longleat and 17 miles to Stonehenge.

Food and drink

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to local food and drink. You can pre-order local cider, sparkling wine or food hampers to be on site when you arrive or you can use the welcome book to guide you to places where you can buy your own. Tokes Farm Shop is a couple of miles from the site near Semley and, in the heart of the village, Church Farm Dairy has a milk vending machine where you can buy milk straight from source. There’s also a village shop and cafe. In Tisbury (three miles) there are more shops and eateries. For picking up supplies to cook back on site, try Downer Farm Meats and Provenance Provisions. For a good meal out head for Pythouse Kitchen Garden. The Grosvenor Arms in Hindon (three miles) is also highly recommended for food. You can walk there on the Wessex Ridgeway from site in about 45 minutes. The smart Beckford Arms (which is a similar distance away) on the Fonthill Estate is also recommended. The closest pub, however, is The Fox and Hounds, just a mile away on the green in the village of East Knoyle. It’s a traditional country pub and the perfect place for a sociable sundowner.
