Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees.
The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde.

Just returning from our first visit to Cardewlees and we could not of asked for a better stay. Cardewlees is an absolute little gem of a campsite and Johnny could not have been a better host if he tried. Beautiful campsite on a working farm. Facilities are clean and effective. The animals that we ran into were friendly, especially a little black cat that was very eager to say hello.
The location was great, site was peaceful and there was very little wind, even with the poor weather that we got on our trip.

Weekend Trip to Hadrian's Wall Country Yurts
Caroline was fantastic! She made the check-in and check out so easy and ensured our comfort throughout, and the yurt and its facilities were perfect! This place is a gem!
External cooking facilities were great, as was the wood fired hot tub!....perfect for a just needed getaway!
Would certainly stay here again and again!...the yurts décor and cleanliness was exceptional.
Top tip...order the pizza oven...its really worth it.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, surrounded by beautiful countryside then this place is for you. Great location. Great communication - Ruth came to see us when we contactedher about the WIFI. Use of private bathroom and shower. Only thing for us is that those facilities were across a farm yard and the cabin didn't have its own supply. The bed was comfy and the cabin stayed at a good temperature (even when it was cold outside). Fire pit available. Would recommend

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the log cabin, from the great atmosphere to the welcoming and helpful people close by, it was one of nicest glamping experiences. The cabin was such a cozy experience along with the beautiful view right outside of your cabin. If you are looking for some time away to relax or for long walks or even a little boat around the stream Ottermoss is the place to go.

When to go
Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve is open to visitors all year round. Spring and summer are the best times to visit the Southern Uplands as the weather is typically at its best and daylight hours are long. As with everywhere in Scotland, the summer school holidays draw the biggest number of visitors.
Know before you go
- There is a small entry fee, which is paid at the car park (admission is free for National Trust for Scotland members.
- Interpretation panels in the car park provide useful visitor information.
- The nearest bathroom facilities are five miles away at St Mary’s Loch.
- There is no public transit access to the reserve: your own vehicle is essential.
- Even in summer, the weather can quickly change. Warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy walking boots are essential.
- If wild camping, be sure to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
