Really nice campsite with good facilities. It was quite busy but it wasn't too noisy. Staff were friendly. I was on a hardstanding pitch and my only gripe was, the grass that we had allocated for the pitch wasn't really quite wide enough to secure my awning as well as I would have liked. The awning just about fit on.
We had some sandwiches made by the guy in the cafe to take on our walk which were good. Lacking veggie options though.

I can not recommend Baystone enough. THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING! I was not expecting them from the pictures shown by stunning the wash facilties are clean and maintained access to onsite fridge and freezer. Good pitch sizes with fire pit.
I will be back as soon as possible. Camp warden was lovely super friendly. I explained my dog prefers space and she was more willing to accommodate.
The on lead rule is followed by all guests which was a reason I picked the sight. There is alot of live stock so your dog does need to be okay with horses and sheep around.
Noise levels were quiet by 10pm every night. Cafe on site was lovely and have a small shop with some goodies avaliable (tecos 8 min drive away) beautiful beaches, peaks near by. I loved it

It was amazing! The view of the surrounding fells and farms was so tranquil and peaceful. Andrew was a friendly and helpful host. The property was beautiful and there was a good community of campers there that socialized over breakfast. There were also trails on the property that we didn't get to. I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone that is going to Scotland

Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises.
Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

Absolutely beautiful site, friendly people around us and the onsite pub food was amazing for one of the nights we visited (pie and gammon are 100% recommend). It was a quick drive from most places we had a day in barnard castle, and this is very pretty. Our dog loved his stay too everywhere we went was dog friendly, with plenty of dog walking spaces for him to run around. Our pod for 4 was very comfortable and picnic bench outside was ideal for breakfast cereal, bring your own cups bowls cutlery and plenty to keep kids busy we took board games and quizzes and he could watch YouTube on his phone. Glad there was a mini fridge kettle (for cuppas) and microwave (for popcorn) we left alcohol outside as it was cold enough overnight. I loved bird spotting on their fields too we will definitely book for the summer time

Loved the animals on site and very helpful staff. Camping by the stream was lovely to see and hear along with the birds singing in the morning. Drinking water available from outside tap. Toilets and showers were decent, nice and warm. Cafe on site is ideal for the lazy mornings.

Nice little campsite, not many pitches which makes it more cosy and less noisey!
Facilities are clean and decent with great views in every direction.
It’s in the middle of nowhere so you may need a car to go off exploring! We took the kids to Havenrigg beach which was about 10mins away, lovely little place! Noise policy was good, 11pm cut off which suited us with little ones.

Lovely campsite, beautiful spot, view of mountais and walks straight off the site. Very quiet and calm (this was April) We never met the owners and nobody at the reception caravan when we arrived although we werecwithing the arrival time, so we just got on with it. A few bits in the shop and some food served but no real coffee would be the only downfall. I hoped to cafe might have some! Showers worked and lots of hot water to wash up with. If we didn't live so far away, I would definitely visit again. Also, amazing for riding at the center, if that is your thing, everyone wes very friendly.

Where to go
Around Rockcliffe
Just south of the village, and within walking distance of such attractions as the Dark Age settlement Mote of Mark and three beaches, Castle Point Caravan and Camping Site welcomes touring caravans and campers to a small site with excellent views over the Solway Firth.
Along the Coast
Three miles east along the coast from Rockcliffe, Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park is just steps from a sandy beach. It’s an ideal location for exploring the coastal villages and activities such as sailing, fishing and horse riding. At the foot of wooded hills, the site offers a secluded atmosphere as well as glamping pods and spacious touring and camping pitches. Six miles further east, Southerness Holiday Park is a good pick for families.
Dalbeattie
Fewer than seven miles north of Rockcliffe, Islecroft Camping and Caravan Site offers a great base for hiking, fishing and exploring with easy access to the shops, pubs and restaurants of Dalbeattie, just a five-minute walk away. Under two miles (two kilometres) from the 7 Stanes mountain biking center, it’s a great choice for bikers. The site has hardstanding and grass pitches suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes.
When to go
For enjoying the great outdoors, the summer is your best bet, but the season also brings large numbers of visitors. To avoid the crowds, opt for September or October: the temperatures are cooler but you’ll enjoy a more peaceful experience and some wonderful autumn colors. Note that, in order to protect nesting birds, visitors are not permitted to cross the causeway in May and June.
Know before you go
- Many sites in the area are seasonal: check opening dates before travelling.
- If you choose to wild camp, be sure to adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
- The area is well-served by local buses, though having your own transport offers more flexibility
- You can stock up on food in Dalbeattie’s grocery stores. For camping gear, head for Dumfries.
