Tyne View Camping is a peaceful spot in Tyne and Wear, not far from Hedley on the Hill village. It's on a farm run by David and his family, who welcome guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside views. You can see the Tyne Valley from the camping pitches, which is great for stargazing at night. The site is basic with just water taps and toilets, no showers, but there's lots of space for kids and dogs to play. You're allowed to bring a barbecue or firepit for cooking, and you can buy supplies in Prudhoe nearby. Or, you can walk to Hedley on the Hill for a meal at a top-notch pub. There are plenty of things to do nearby, like walking in the woods, playing golf, or trying gliding. I loved the campsite. The plots were very spacious and not at all crammed in, so there was lots of room for my toddler to run around in. The facilities were good as there was a static caravan with a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and even a couple of lounge areas, which would be useful if you got bad weather. It was so handy having the use of a hot water for washing up. I would definitely go back!

We loved tent camping at Walkmill, the site was beautifully maintained in a stunning location near the river. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy while sat around the fire pit - we saw a barn owl and hares during our two night stay. The pitches were well spaced out and the site shop had everything you might need in a pinch -we recommend bringing cash for the honesty box. The location is a 45min walk to Warkworth Castle and the coast/coastal path so there is plenty to keep you busy. We are looking forward to coming back!

Really nice campsite with good facilities. It was quite busy but it wasn't too noisy. Staff were friendly. I was on a hardstanding pitch and my only gripe was, the grass that we had allocated for the pitch wasn't really quite wide enough to secure my awning as well as I would have liked. The awning just about fit on. We had some sandwiches made by the guy in the cafe to take on our walk which were good. Lacking veggie options though.

I can not recommend Baystone enough. THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING! I was not expecting them from the pictures shown by stunning the wash facilties are clean and maintained access to onsite fridge and freezer. Good pitch sizes with fire pit. I will be back as soon as possible. Camp warden was lovely super friendly. I explained my dog prefers space and she was more willing to accommodate. The on lead rule is followed by all guests which was a reason I picked the sight. There is alot of live stock so your dog does need to be okay with horses and sheep around. Noise levels were quiet by 10pm every night. Cafe on site was lovely and have a small shop with some goodies avaliable (tecos 8 min drive away) beautiful beaches, peaks near by. I loved it

We loved camping at Moss Rose Campsite. It was everything we needed and more. We've camped at Doyles Dell, enclosed pitch, as we were traveling with our dog. Plenty of space on the pitch, nice warm shower, washing up station, drinking water. Picnic benches and fire pits available to rent. Wood also available for a small fee. We were greeted by Joe, who was very friendly and helpful. Made us feel very welcomed. We will definitely go back 😊

Loved the getaway in the campervan for couple days , back to nature with stunning views. Such a beautiful quiet place on a lovely farm surrounded by livestock. Great wee chippy in Dalton and co-op right next to it plus wee cafes aswell n butchers. Only thing was having to take own loo roll into bathroom even after the cleaner had been n not restocked. Would deffo come back and maybe stay in the pods for a change.

Around Rockcliffe

Just south of the village, and within walking distance of such attractions as the Dark Age settlement Mote of Mark and three beaches, Castle Point Caravan and Camping Site welcomes touring caravans and campers to a small site with excellent views over the Solway Firth.

Along the Coast

Three miles east along the coast from Rockcliffe, Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park is just steps from a sandy beach. It’s an ideal location for exploring the coastal villages and activities such as sailing, fishing and horse riding. At the foot of wooded hills, the site offers a secluded atmosphere as well as glamping pods and spacious touring and camping pitches. Six miles further east, Southerness Holiday Park is a good pick for families.

Dalbeattie

Fewer than seven miles north of Rockcliffe, Islecroft Camping and Caravan Site offers a great base for hiking, fishing and exploring with easy access to the shops, pubs and restaurants of Dalbeattie, just a five-minute walk away. Under two miles (two kilometres) from the 7 Stanes mountain biking center, it’s a great choice for bikers. The site has hardstanding and grass pitches suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

When to go

For enjoying the great outdoors, the summer is your best bet, but the season also brings large numbers of visitors. To avoid the crowds, opt for September or October: the temperatures are cooler but you’ll enjoy a more peaceful experience and some wonderful autumn colors. Note that, in order to protect nesting birds, visitors are not permitted to cross the causeway in May and June.
