Stowford Manor Farm Campsite

51 units · Glamping, Motorhomes25 acres · Trowbridge, England
We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.

The Old Vicarage offers a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere for your stay for camping. We have BBQ's, camp fires to hire and have the shallow river to play in. Free Wifi. Well behaved dogs allowed on leads at all times. Riverside site in grounds of a 17th-century house in Nottinghamshire Close to Sherwood Forest and 25 miles from Nottingham Cave bar on site open on Bank Holidays You'll sense the history all around you at The Old Vicarage, from the old house to the remains of the water mill in the river bed. Stays here are in the grounds of a 17th-century house in the village of Elkesley, six miles from Worksop and 25 miles from Nottingham. Its grounds run down to the banks of the Poulter river, and are lined with stands of acacia, sycamore, ash and oak trees which were originally donated to the first vicar by the Duke of Newcastle in the 1830s. There's plenty of space around the site for traditional outdoor activities, with a rope swing and stepping stones over the shallow river and a bridge that's perfect for playing Pooh Sticks. In the surrounding area there are animal parks and nature reserves to walk around, or to head back further in time, you could take one of the trails through ancient Sherwood Forest, around quarter of an hour's drive away. Guest facilities on site centre around the Cave Bar, a cool little space built into an exposure of 500-million-year-old sandstone, plus an outdoor terrace for sipping drinks out in the sunshine. Other amenities include a washing-up area and bathrooms with plentiful hot showers, toilets and baby changing facilities.

Cabins near Birmingham guide

Overview

The second-largest city in the UK after London, Birmingham is a major business and cultural hub for the West Midlands. Birmingham offers loads of things to experience, from exploring its 313-mile network of canals to immersing yourself in the food scene. You can even pay a visit to the Cadbury World chocolate factory. If you love nature, be sure to check out the 15-acre Birmingham Botanical Gardens or spend some time on the greens in Cannon Hill Park. Once you’ve had your fill of city fun, head out to one of the many areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs) in the area for a bit of walking, cycling, and under-the-star camping.

Where to go

Cannock Chase AONB

If you love plants, you’re sure to have a heyday in Cannock Case, with its expansive wetlands and heathlands along with woodland habitats for evergreen and deciduous trees. There are also quite a few points of historic interest, including the Castle Ring, a hill fort from the Iron Age, and Shugborough Hall, a National Trust-managed historic house dating to the 17th and 18th centuries.

Malvern Hills AONB

South of Birmingham, the Malvern Hills AONB has long been known as a source for spring water—in fact, its home to the world’s oldest mineral water bottling operation. While it’s worth popping by just to fill up your bottles, you’ll likely be tempted to linger. Fortunately, there are solid options for staying the night, whether you’re the camping type or prefer the luxury of a glamping tent.

Shropshire Hills AONB

An hour’s drive east of Birmingham, on the border of Wales, the Shropshire Hills AONB offers beautiful, hilly scenery and ample opportunity for cycling, walking, or just driving around and taking in the scenery. While there are loads of spots to camp in the area, glamping reigns supreme—expect to find options ranging from tipis to treehouses.

When to go

The best time to visit Birmingham is between late spring and early autumn, when the weather is at its finest (and driest), but prime camping weather is in July and August. Summer is chock-full of festivities, including the biannual Birmingham International Dance Festival in June and the Birmingham, Sandwell & Westside Jazz Festival in July. While August usually has particularly lovely weather, things can get crowded due to school holidays.
