The site is a unique woodland valley folded around a clear, spring-fed lake created from the old Tregildrans Quarry. Our tipis and tent pitches are dotted about this secret 20 acres full of ferns, bluebells, oak and meadowsweet.
Left in peace for many years there's been no modern chemicals or poisons on the land, meaning we've got bluebells, dormice, Red Admirals and shy woodland Jays for you to spot.
It’s a place set apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about in a boat.
We're committed to giving you a genuinely individual service from first contact to your time staying with us.
We established CTH in 1996. This was the first and we believe still is the best tipi holiday site in the UK. We know our area inside out and can always help with local knowledge or contacts if you need them.
We want to offer our guests a sustainable holiday. A return to real camping means the lowest possible impact on the land and environment - our tipi poles don’t even break the surface of the earth. Your footprint while here could only be bettered by a survival expert. You don't have to fly! a major bonus, and we source all our wood, fish and canvas locally and work with local people wherever possible.

Clean and well looked after composting toilets, hot gas showers, fire pits, free scrap wood and a quiet woodland to immerse yourself in, next to the stream.
Mushroom Meadow and the adjoining woodland are nestled at the bottom of our picturesque 50 acre family farm - with the stream at it's southerly border. Access is via a long farm track (about 750m) and is clearly signed once you arrive at our farm.
The numbered pitches are thoughtfully spaced across the entire meadow. Perfect for those who like lots of space and for children who like to run free.
An ideal West Cornwall location (10 min drive to both North and South coasts) - you can walk into our village of Praze and Beeble to visit the local pub, village shop or famous Philps Bakery for all your pasty needs!

We loved the location, tucked down a farm track, in the shelter of a lovely wooded river. Great eco facilities, we love a composting loo and the outdoor showers were fabulous. Tim on site was really helpful and friendly. Gorgeous, generous pitches and so peaceful. The wash up area in the wood is a lovely spot but a little far from the site and in the less sunny months would get a bit waterlogged I'd imagine. It was no bother to us as we boiled water and washed up on our pitch, but might be an issue at a busier time perhaps. We loved our stay, good value, a great site with a fabulous ethos. Right up our street, would wholeheartedly recommend. The river walk is a lovely amenity and lots of places are easy to reach from it's central location.

Lovely site, great amenities that were also eco friendly, river is right there for a swim or kayak and the morning views were beautiful. We were the only campers so it was super quiet but Jonathan was close by if we had any issues. Would have loved to have stayed longer!

We’ve just got back from a fantastic week at Mushroom meadow. The site was just perfect - spacious pitches in a gorgeous surrounding with never a queue for the loo and plenty of hot water for the showers! We found loads to do nearby on both the north and south coasts and really appreciated Clare’s helpful local knowledge and tips too. Thank you so much for a great week - super hosts and we particularly loved our evening fires with Tim. Highly recommended.

My pitch had a fabulous view of the River Tamar. The site was super quiet and all features for basic camping as described, i.e. shower and composting loo. Handy to be on the Tamara Coast to Coast Path as well.

We had a really nice stay here. The site was quiet and peaceful and the host was very helpful. The little woodland at the end of the field is very nice for a stroll and we walked into the village which has an amazing bakery, shop, pub and fish and chip shop. Location is good for getting around Cornwall. Would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful stay in Jonathan's land. He is very welcoming and helpful.
From the camp, we had beautiful views of the river and felt truly immersed in nature, surrounded by the silence.
A compost toilet and a cute and spacious shower in a horse box were all the services we needed to make our stay comfortable.
We would love to go back one day!

Mushroom Meadow is a peaceful field well away from any roads. Surrounded by a wild meadow and trees each pitch is flat and mown short for a good pitch. It is a friendly place. Clare and her staff are very helpful. There are very clean compost loos and effective showers. It is a "get away from it all" sort of place. Don't miss the legendary Philps pasty shop in the village!

We had such a lovely, peaceful stay at Jonathan’s.
Our pitch was perfectly tucked away with a wonderful view of the river.
Our three year old loved exploring and seeing the chickens and ducks roaming around the farm. Fresh eggs for breakfast were very much enjoyed!
Jonathan was a brilliant host, friendly and helpful and great communication.
Would highly recommend for a peaceful get away if you like a simple wild camping set up.
The location is magical, we hope to return one day soon!

A perfect little hideaway – ideal to stay whilst cycling, surfing & recharging!
I stayed here as part of a bikepacking trip and couldn’t have asked for a better spot. The location is peaceful and secluded, surrounded by greenery with a lovely fire pit, hot outdoor shower, and plenty of space to relax. It’s just a 15-minute cycle to Newquay and Fistral Beach, which made it ideal for surfing and exploring the coast.
The host, Sheryl, was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She provided super clear directions with photos, was quick to respond to questions, and even left out firewood and matches. On top of that, there were friendly chickens roaming about, a couple of chilled cats, and paddleboards available too.
She also gave great local recommendations and was very flexible on request. The price is very reasonable for what you get – this place is a hidden gem.
I was also really grateful to be able to book on the same day — something quite rare / almost impossible with the campsites in the area.
Would absolutely stay again – thanks Sheryl!

I had such a lovely stay at Mushroom Meadow campsite in late April. It’s so quiet, tucked away in the Cornish countryside, and feels super calm and private. The eco vibe is great, and everything’s quite simple. The individual hot outdoor showers were lovely and much needed after a hot day, and it was a nice novelty to be able to hear the birds whilst in the shower!
Because the site is so rural, there is next to no light pollution at night and so the stargazing potential is huge. I could see so many more stars than I can ever see at home! And the campfire pit is a lovely addition to an evening, especially coming back to the site after a day out to find it crackling away as the sun set, lit by the staff on site for me.
When I was looking for a site, I wanted somewhere quiet that I could feel safe, switch off and enjoy nature for the weekend; this place was perfect.

We were met by Lawrence who was friendly and welcoming. There was only one shower/toilet which didn’t cause us any problems but worth bearing in mind during high season. Bigger shower/toilet blocks are being added shortly I believe! The pitches were lovely and private and nicely maintained.

Where to go
Northwest Coast
West of Watergate, Cornwall’s north coast is wild and windswept. The surf Mecca of Newquay is one of the region’s busiest hubs, while further south, St Ives is surrounded by sandy beaches and seaside holiday parks. Coastal hikes don’t come more spectacular than the South West Coast Path, which runs the entire length of the Cornish coast.
Northeast Coast
Sweeping headlands and rocky coves line the coast east of Watergate Bay. Enjoy sea-cliff walks along the Trevose Head Heritage Coast, spot sea-birds swooping along the shore, or take in the views from Pentire Point. Further north, discover the legacy of King Arthur at Tintagel Castle or hike up the High Cliff, Cornwall’s highest point.
South Coast
St Austell, Falmouth, and Fowey are the headline acts of the ‘Cornish Riviera’, a 30-minute drive south of Watergate Bay. Camping options range from family-friendly holiday parks to glamping in a luxury yurt, but whichever you choose, the beach is never far away. Don’t miss a visit to the Eden Project, famed for its giant rainforest biomes.
Bodmin Moors
Misty moorlands and ancient standing stones tempt intrepid hikers away from the coast to the Bodmin Moors. Visit in the summertime to hike amid fields of purple heather, picnic by Golitha Falls, then pitch your tent at a hillside camping ground. Look out for native ponies grazing the hillsides along the way.
