As you'd expect from a site with such a name, there's a whole lot of space in which to relax and explore at 5 Acres, a large grassy site in the Somerset Levels. Kids and dogs are both welcome on site here, and there's plenty of scope for them to run about and play games safely away from barbecues and campfires (which are also permitted to keep you warm and fed in the evenings). Facilities on site include firepits, a toilet and shower block and outdoor sinks with mains water. Dogs must be kept on leads at all time. We class ourselves as a quite site so no amplified music. The premier pitch is fully enclosed so dogs can be let off the lead. There is a maximum of six people allowed on this pitch at any one time. Visitors are allowed as long as the total number of people doesn't exceed six and they are chargeable at the overnight rate and must leave by 18:00 - Sorry, had the envelope pushed a bit! Mains hook ups are 6Amp max rated. Pitches are approximately 16m x 20m. The flag, firepit and pitch number line up in the centre of your pitch. The surrounding Somerset Levels aren’t just out in the sticks – they also produce them. Willow cane has been cultivated the traditional way in this part of the county for hundreds of years and can be seen growing within a mile of 5 Acres. The Levels are also a wildlife haven, making them an all-round top choice for country walks along the many trails nearby. And while this may be a rural retreat, it's also one that's easy to get to as it's just off the A378 (no winding country lanes to negotiate for this one…) Taunton town centre, with its wide range of shops and supermarkets, is a 15-minute drive away. The closest pub and coffee shop are five minutes away by road.

Depending on where you’ve plonked down you may find that your nearest neighbours are the resident beef cattle, sheep or horses; it’s worth keeping your eyes open for sightings of the hedgehogs that often scuttle about the place too. Perhaps most crucially for those whose stomachs dictate a site’s success is the presence of a café that serves up a tempting range of freshly cooked goodies: breakfasts (no rush – they’re served all day), salads, cakes and coffees, plus cheeses, pies and the like to take away. This was a really great place to spend a night in the Brecon Beacons (in our case the final night before returning home). An unusual location on the site of a golf club, but once we'd driven up the main path and through the golf course, it was easy to forget that's where we were, other than the faint sound of people playing! The views of the hills from the campsite itself were absoutely stunning - couldn't have asked for better! The site is small - only space for about 8 or so pitches. The shared toilet and shower facilities were top notch - the best we've ever seen and didn't feel like camping facilities! Only down side was nowhere provided for washing up or camping toilet disposal. Otherwise, we were the only ones using the field, so it was beautifully quiet - not sure what it would be like if the field was fuller in peak season.

Great location for walking The Severn Way and the Sharpness canal. Great for dogs. Quiet night’s sleep. Pitch was generous size with drinking water, Elsan and grey waste. Rubbish and recycling handy. Overhanging tree made me nervous in the high winds in pitch 1. Grass could do with a path cutting around the outside of the field for early and late dog walking but nice to have a field and would be nice to see some left uncut. Owner very friendly and helpful. Personally I would have liked to have closed the gates for extra security but the gates were new so hopefully this is something for the future. We will be back!!

There is plenty of space in the field, so even with other campervans there, it feels like you have privacy and room to enjoy the beautiful views. The shower and toilet block was spotless. Location is excellent. The views are stunning despite our stay being on a more overly cloudy/misty day/night. Close to Brecon town centre and easily reached by taxi both ways. Craddock Golf Course nearby was also very welcoming where we watch the 1st half of the rugby before heading into town. We did message a couple of times via Hipcamp about the pitch but didnt get a reply. However, when we arrived we were happy with the pitches available. We just picked our own and set up. Overall we were really pleased and would definitely return.

Baldwin’s Brook Glamping is also half an hour’s walk away from the Cotswold Canal Trust Visitor Centre by The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal if you’d like to grab a spot on a boat trip or sip a coffee by the canal. When you'd rather have a chilled beer, two pubs are within half a mile of the site (only 10 minutes’ walk away). Strike up a conversation with a local about the next Severn Bore, the huge tidal wave which races for 25 miles from Awre to Gloucester down the estuary just a handful of times per year.
