You'll sense the history all around you at The Old Vicarage, from the old house to the remains of the water mill in the river bed. Stays here are in the grounds of a 17th-century house in the village of Elkesley, six miles from Worksop and 25 miles from Nottingham. Its grounds run down to the banks of the Poulter river, and are lined with stands of acacia, sycamore, ash and oak trees which were originally donated to the first vicar by the Duke of Newcastle in the 1830s.
There's plenty of space around the site for traditional outdoor activities, with a rope swing and stepping stones over the shallow river and a bridge that's perfect for playing Pooh Sticks. In the surrounding area there are animal parks and nature reserves to walk around, or to head back further in time, you could take one of the trails through ancient Sherwood Forest, around quarter of an hour's drive away.
Guest facilities on site centre around the Cave Bar, a cool little space built into an exposure of 500-million-year-old sandstone, plus an outdoor terrace for sipping drinks out in the sunshine.
Other amenities include a washing-up area and bathrooms with plentiful hot showers, toilets and baby changing facilities.

What a little Derbyshire gem: back to basics Whitehouse Farm Campsite is a simple site in a most scenic setting five minutes’ drive from the pretty village of Tideswell.
The site’s central location in the Peak District National Park means it’s a top spot for those who want to ramble or ride bikes – several circular trails leave from Tideswell and the traffic-free Monsal Trail is a five-minute drive away. And there’s plenty more activity if you require it too, as activity centres nearby can sort you out days of horse riding, abseiling, climbing and caving.
All this activity isn’t mandatory, of course – this is an equally fine location for days pottering off to local pubs, pigging out on pudding in Bakewell or taking a leisurely stroll around the Chatsworth Estate, 20 minutes away.
And if even that’s too much, you’d be welcome to spend some time loafing about on site: there’s heaps of space here, and as facilities have been kept quite minimal (just showers and toilets) there should be a good serving of peace and quiet to go with it all.

Beautiful piece of land on the edge of lake Windermere. Felt like you were truly in nature. Morning lake swims and ideal of you have your own kayak as it’s on the waters edge. Nice clean toilets and hot showers. Brilliant that you can pitch where you like so good for a small group. Hosts friendly and approachable and easy to contact if needed. What a great campsite! Beautiful scenery right by the waters edge. Plenty space for pitching a tent with parking near the tents. Basic shower and WC block but hot water and well lit at night.
We used the fire pits and bought logs from Tom, which was simple and easy.

It was our first time camping with our new teardrop camper and we definitely chose the right place! David was so lovely and helped me to reverse it onto the pitch. Due to bad reviews I expected the facilities to be dirty but they were far from it! Very clean and plenty of toilet roll!
As for the location, it’s amazing for people who love walking, we had a few hours walk down the canal and I definitely recommend walking across the road to the Riverside cafe for some lunch. Other than that there’s not much to do unless you want to drive into Stafford Centre but perfect for a quiet chilled couple of nights!

Our stay at Over the Moon was absolutely perfect. Ruth was super friendly and gave clear instructions on how to find them, and replied quickly to any questions. The views were breathtaking. We loved swimming in the lake, which was barely a minute walk away from the pitches, especially with jets flying by overhead. The whole pitch area was clean and well kept. Host was incredibly welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful trip with some wild swimming.

3 nights at Heygates Lodging
Had an amazing stay with Graham and Allison! They were such gracious hosts and have created a little slice of heven on their land. The lodge is so cute and well furnished, we wished for nothing. A perfect romantic destination. We will definitely be back to stay again!

This is our second visit to social district campsite and yet again we loved it, great spaces, amazing lake access, not crowded, quiet, great toilets/showers/washing facilities.
Our family’s favourite campsite and would reccomend to anyone .

Clean washrooms and toilet amenities. On site bar and entertainment was excellent. Short walk to town, shops and pubs. Highly recommend.
