I loved the campsite. The plots were very spacious and not at all crammed in, so there was lots of room for my toddler to run around in. The facilities were good as there was a static caravan with a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and even a couple of lounge areas, which would be useful if you got bad weather. It was so handy having the use of a hot water for washing up. I would definitely go back!

We loved tent camping at Walkmill, the site was beautifully maintained in a stunning location near the river. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy while sat around the fire pit - we saw a barn owl and hares during our two night stay. The pitches were well spaced out and the site shop had everything you might need in a pinch -we recommend bringing cash for the honesty box. The location is a 45min walk to Warkworth Castle and the coast/coastal path so there is plenty to keep you busy. We are looking forward to coming back!

Lovely host, travelled from south west England to do the NC500 and this campsite has every essential you could possibly need. Would have loved to stay longer! Gorgeous peaceful spot next to the river.

Beautiful quiet site. The tent felt entirely private/separate from the few others on the site. Well equipped and comfortable. Perfectly located for exploring the North East coast. Campbell was really helpful and made our stay great. Couldn't recommend more!

Lovely campsite with excellent facilities. All very clean and in good condition. The hosts were very helpful and the little shop is stocked with some great stuff.
Considering how remote the site is, it was very easy to find. The area it's in is great for peaceful walks.

When to go
Migratory birds flock to Holy Island from autumn through winter (October through February), which is the best time for bird-watching. Summer is peak season for tourists, and the island can get crowded, especially in July and August. Make an early start if you plan to drive, as the island’s limited parking can quickly fill up. The island is only accessible at low tide.
Know before you go
- Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve is located at the northern tip of the Northumberland Coast AONB, about 10 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed along the A1.
- The causeway to Holy Island can only be crossed at low tide—it’s essential to check the safe crossing times before setting out. There is a pay and display car park on the island.
- The village of Holy Island has several shops, pubs, and cafés where you can stop for lunch or purchase souvenirs.
- Although exploring the village and Priory is possible, the island’s trails are not easily accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
- Watch out for Pirri-Pirri bur along the trails. It can cling to clothes and is easily spread to other sites where it can damage the natural environment, so check your clothing before leaving the island.
